The Falcon's Nest

... how to soar with Opera...

Enabling drag-n-drop of page elements

Many of those familiar with the technology preview releases during the development cycle of Opera 7.50 were quite smitten  with a  new feature. You could drag an element on the page -- such as an image or a link -- only a little bit, only to see it display in a new page. This was unfortunately disabled :frown: in the final release, as it became unnerving for some novice users. Here's how to bring it back. :chef:

Locate the opera6.ini file in your local profile (see 'Preferences' in the 'Paths' section in Help > About Opera). Close Opera. Then edit this file and add the following lines to it to turn on drag-and-drop within page.

[User Prefs]
Enable Drag=255

The available options are as follows:

º 0: All drag operations disabled.
º 1: Drag elements (links, images) in document enabled.
º 2: Drag from Panels (Hotlist) enabled.
º 4: Drag from "Location" label on address bar enabled.
º 255: All drag operations enabled.

You can also combine these by adding the appropriate numbers  for the desired mix. e.g.

º 3: (= 1 + 2) Drag enabled in Document and Panels, disabled in "Location" label.
º 5: (= 1 + 4) Drag enabled in Document and "Location" label, disabled in Panels.
º 6: (= 2 + 4) Drag enabled in Panels and "Location" label, disabled in Document.
etc.

In Opera 9, you can change the setting more easily by changing the value of opera:config#UserPrefs|EnableDrag.

On QuickTime plug-ins...Changing your Opera installation from single-user to multi-user mode (and vice-versa)

Please add that there is an option 8: allow dragging to same page. Current default is 7.
