Opera email client and user authentication

- Click on Mail > Manage accounts
- Select the account giving you trouble, and click the Edit button
- In the resulting dialog, click on the Servers tab
- For both incoming (POP) and outgoing (SMTP) servers, set the appropriate value for user authentication -- start with 'Auto'
- Save your changes by pressing OK
- Try to check for new email again
- If that does not work, try another authentication setting such as 'Plain text' -- try them all out till one works

Note that your password will be displayed as ****** (6 asterisks) regardless of its actual length. Don't panic -- Opera does this as a security measure to prevent anyone guessing it based on length. Internally, it stores the full password.
