Essence of My Life

One Year in Singapore

, ,

This morning, when I woke up, I realized that it had been 365 nights I spent on the Singapore Soil. Looking back, the whole year - from 10th December 2006, when I set foot into Changi International Airport, to 9th December 2007 evening, I had met many (and only) good people, who were always helping me out. This post is to tribute their kind souls and the enormous encouragement they had given me during my one year stay in this city-state.

Waking up

Whom should I start first? No doubt my senior (and the one and only one person who helped me get here) Dr. Zeyar xxx (and, yes, his wife, Mrs. Nan Nan xxx). If you have experiences of living in fast-pace city life, you may know how hard it is to find enough time to find a shuttle for a person, who is not your relative or something. But, he did find me a good hideout - which was so good that I studied there and got a series of 'A' in my first semester in my Graduate Studies - and giving me good advice during my stay here - in addition to his helps during my school admission process.

Talking about my hideout, I'd tell you that my old hood was a perfect one. All people in there are good to talk, have good souls and, yes, interesting in his/her own way. You can have cat lovers - my senior's wife and her neighbor Ms. Cho Mar xxx, an able seaman - who happened to be my former room-mate, a nice family - my former landlords and a friendly Onee Chan - Ms. Khin Khin xxx who adviced me in buying shirts and tie (plus I used to drink her coffee, eat her meals and bully her P: )

Oh, I am forgetting an important aspect of life, health!!! For health, I had to consulted Dr. Puu Kaung (and her husband Dr. Homer) who offered to cut my head off when I had a headache --- opps, sorry --- who adviced me medical things and answered my bizarre questions sacrificing her game play time - yes, she's as good a gamer as she's a doctor. Yes, yes, I don't forget my dentist - Dr. xxx Lim.

The sounding of Dr. Puu Kaung (meaning a guinea pig) make me remember Ms. Yone Lay (meaning small rabbit). She's helped me with opening a bank account - first timers always don't know how to move around the city, right? - plus, bought me a drink. (That drink was expensive to me at that time taking the exchange rate into mind) What a warm welcome to a newcomer.

Next person popping into my mind is Mr. Prem xxx, who's the CEO of the company in which I interned. He's a really kind and friendly person. In addition to Mr. Prem xxx, from my manager at that time, Mr. Vikram xxx, I learnt a lot about their business, trade secrets of retail stores and office works. I also ventured into the retail area as a store clerk, where Ms. Lin Zar Zar xxx, an Onee from Engineering who happened to be my senior there, guided me a lot of system flow of 7-Eleven franchises. (Mr. Min Than Htike xxx was the one who introduced me there. I don't forget.)

Oh, the list is quite long now. However, there are more people to tribute. Never mind. I'd list them down as they appear in my mind: my current roommate, my current landlords, my father's friends who helped me with my tuition fees loans, my junior friend Mr. Myat Aye xxx, my supervisor Dr. Tan xxx, my former lecturer Ms. Khet Khet xxx - who's pursuing a PhD in Information Systems now and whom I used to bully for lunch P:, my lecturers - Dr. Khoo xxx, Dr. Gary xxx, Dr. Francis xxx, Mr. Alex xxx, Dr. Tulika xxx, Dr. Terrence xxx plus Ms. Cindy xxx from the graduate office - yes, also Ms. Loo xxx from that office.
