Finding 'the truth' is a challenge indeed. Your 'truth' may not be mine. 'Massaging the truth' seems daily entertainment for most of us. Richard Dawkins rather looks for the mere facts, 'secular' facts. But are his facts also universal, mine or even ours? How "true" can they be?
Link: http://youtu.be/BG7sqpLF3W8 Each time and again I am reminded that 'strange coincidences' happen. Particularly from the middle of this movie some good examples of this phenomenon are shown. It also reminds me how "sure" traditional sciences are of their 'explanations" but in reality how little we know with absolute certainty and with understanding of things! Could it be that we have it all wrong and were misled to believing in things that could be vastly different from "the consensus in sciences" (an unscientific claim by the way) about how this world works? I think so. At about 1:53 and 7:22 in this movie you hear and see phenomena that I also witnessed very recently in our place... Explanation? None...!<P> John
Have a good weekend and enjoy Doyle Dykes on his (then) new Taylor T5 guitar. If in doubt you can do that too on your guitar (in C or E), try the Doyle Dikes lesson to get the hang from this pickin' style.
My wife surprised me the other day with this image. If I could "see it". 'Yes, of course', I said. She asked: 'but what do you see?' 'Actually little if anything', I answered, 'a lot of grey-white smoke. More I can't distinguish. A number '44' you say?' She laughed at me pityingly, leaving me in the dark about the purpose of this all. 'Now watch this movie', she continued, hammering a few words in my browser. In an instant it became clear to me what she meant to say. Yes, I am a Daltonist: moderately red-green colorblind, as the other 10% of global males, but only present in 1% of women. A chromosome deficiency indeed, sometimes popping from mothers to their sons. By the way: the Linux Gnome Desktop has a special "libcolorblind0" to adjust the screen for people suffering from color deficiencies. For Mac and PC there are several tools to adjust a computer display to the type of your color deficiency. Do mind that both eyes aren't equal in some instances. Are you a Daltonist too? Take the test here below.
A formidable PR-campaign from the Banco Sabadell. This ingenious movie goes about the following.
"On the 130th anniversary of the founding of Banco Sabadell we wanted to pay homage to our city by means of the campaign "Som Sabadell" (We are Sabadell) . This is the flashmob that we arranged as a final culmination with the participation of 100 people from the Vallès Symphony Orchestra, the Lieder, Amics de l'Òpera and Coral Belles Arts choirs." Enjoy this performance.
El Hierro, the western most volcanic island of the Canary Island in the Atlantic, just west from Morocco, is in the news again. After having suffered from a volcanic episode from last July to about February of this year (2012) things have come to life again. Since mid-June light earthquakes (magnitudes between 1 and 5) are rattling this beautiful island. Over 2.000 in the meantime, some days 100 or more. Magma appears moving again. The Canary Islands belonging to Spain have to deal with the global economic downturn, Spain's bank solvency crisis and unemployment due to the collapse of the tourist industry. Now anew a volcanic episode is on its way at El Hierro even Spanish scientists appear to feel the pinch of austerity: they need assistance from local people to try and do their work by lack of public means and funding. Experts aren't sure what could happen this time with the island sitting on top of a giant magma-plume. A huge bubble about 20 km below the surface, in fact part of a "shape forming" shield-volcano. Yet, 11.000 people still live on the island, which appears a paradise in the ocean. These volcanic episodes -in principle- could take long, although many fear an eruption on land or pretty near the coast this time. However, there are questions to be asked! Do we see some sensationalism about "feeling the earthquakes" in media? Do we see some over-concern about a possible eruption? The Internet is humming about this, mainly in Spanish. Let's wait and see the coming days and weeks what develops here...
