Stratfor CEO and How to handle a Crisis

One of my important geopolitical sources of information is Stratfor. Not only for me, but for many thousands of professionals and organizations who need solid information about the world we are in. Stratfor delivers that. December last year computers from this publisher were hacked. It revealed serious flaws in the data-management of this company. Credit card numbers and contact names appeared not to have been encrypted and could be stolen. Anonymous hackers put acquired data on the Internet and succeeded in bringing down the operations of this company.
Dr. George Friedman, CEO of Stratfor and his managements team took decisive actions. They immediately called in the FBI and several top-experts to minimize the damage and restore the operations in a more secure way. One wonders what the purpose of this 'attack' was? Who has any interest to know the names of individuals who f.ex. watched the Stratfor website, or who ordered some publication? The company is running again, their important information is flowing and data is stored in a new, secure way. There are lessons to be learned here. The most important one for hackers: their Stratfor data is useless and worthless. Had they informed Stratfor, I think they might have earned a few generous dollars instead, for their useful information about some internal system-flaws!
