It's been quite noisy here today with roadworks on the bridge next to our place all day. I hadn't thought about how noisy it has been until a moment ago when the machinery all stopped.

i went for a walk this afternoon, thinking I would take photos of the work and the disruption it was causing... at one stage traffic was backed up about a kilometre. When I looked there were no potential images that really grabbed my attention.

As I continued around the lake I saw some reeds and clouds which did grab my attention, and then surprisingly there was the moon rising through the clouds.

I just noticed that it is one year and one day since I started the 365 Project.

Overall, it's been a lot of fun, looking for something to photograph each day. I think it's made me more aware of what is around me, the tremendous beauty on God's creation and the wonderful privilege of being able to capture images at very little cost-- a big change from the old film days!

I think that I battled this tremendous inertia that crept in once I passed the 365 photo mark. It was like my brain got confused and thought the goal was to produce 365 photos rather than producing at least one photo per day for 365 days. How typical it is to become complacent and think we've done it long before we actually reach the finish line!

So here are the last two shots in this particular series. I'm going off now to try and sort through the hundreds of photos on my camera card to work out which ones I've printed and which ones I still want to print. I've also got a stack of photos I printed off late last year which need to be put into an album.

This afternoon I ordered some 8x12 prints to enter into Friday's photo exhibition.

Anyway, here are the final couple of shots for this project.

The cloudy condtitions this afternoon did interesting things to the light. Apart from the scattering effects of the clouds, the mountains almost shone in comparison with the dull conditions in town.

We had a few people round for dinner this evening- an impromptu birthday dinner. A practice run for next Saturday.

Margaret stood close by in case the knife touched the bottom- it did :D

Last Week's Photos

Here are some photos of the last week.

We stayed at "The Haven" a beautiful conference centre on the beach at Emu Park, just out of Rockhampton. The centre is run by the Sisters of St Joseph (I think that's the right name), the order established by Australia's only saint Mary McKillopp. (I guess someone will correct me on those details!). They have probably had the location since it was worth next to nothing and in "the bush." Last year they spent $5 million on renovating and re-building the centre.

The beach was beautiful, and even featured some sunflowers growing in the dunes!

Here are the participants. They came from NSW, Victoria, Queensland and Indonesia

One morning I woke up at 6 am and remembered that I had left my phone charger in the lounge downstairs. I ran down and grabbed it and saw the sun rising. I don't often see the sun rising so I ran to my room and picked up my camera to take these shots:

Here are some pictures of the scenery from the conference centre.

There were some interesting flora and fauna in the vicinity... a kookaburra, some caterpillars, beautiful but deadly lantana (it is a pest which chokes out native vegetation).

I will be blogging on the actual content of the seminar over the next week or two. I also have some ideas about some things I need to be doing, so there will be things becoming evident in the church over the next few months.

I tried to set this out in a more interesting arrangement but my opera wouldn't co-operate on that :frown:

I noticed this grevilea starting to bloom in my garden.

To celebrate the start of the football season tomorrow, here is a photo taken from the football fields.

Back in spring I posted a photo of a peewee nest in a tree in our yard. This afternoon I saw the family (Mum + 3 kids?) enjoying the afternoon on our fence. Confession: I had to doctor the photo a little with GIMP by reducing the contrast as you couldn't see the bird on the lower part.... I usually resist doing this because whenever you try to improve one aspect of a photo you usually lessen another part.

Anyway here's the family:

I took Alex and Rex for a walk this afternoon. Along the way we saw this very tame magpie who let us come within a couple of metres.

(This photo takes me up to 401 for the 365 project :hat: )

UPDATE: Wikipedia, the source of all knowledge tells you how to distinguish between magpies and currawongs:

Mature magpies have red eyes, in contrast to the yellow eyes of currawongs and white eyes of Australian ravens and crows. Immature birds have darker, brownish eyes.

The article doesn't tell you how to get close enough to see the colours of their eyes! I zoomed in on my photo and as far as I can tell it had light brown eyes so it's an immature magpie.

The creek looked particularly peaceful this afternoon

There seems to be a storm cell developing this afternoon. In the space of half an hour we've gone from nearly clear sky to almost overcast. It would be nice to have a downpour!

"The Courier" our esteeemd local newspaper is running an advertising featue about Narrabri West on Thursday. They asked for a couple of photos to illustrate our "business."

A nice walk to the cemetery this afternoon. Coming back, there was a train waiting to leave. The photo came out much darker than I would have thought it should have.

It was really peaceful at the back of our place today. Even the ducks seemed more relaxed than usual!

After my scripture lesson this morning at Bellata, I noticed dozens of butterflies of different types fluttering around a plumbago plant at the school. Here is one of my favourites.

I took Rex for a walk this afternoon. It was a warm afternoon and she was panting almost to choking point and so I stopped off to let her go into the water for a swim. She walked in very gingerly and just sat unmoving in the water. When she came out she was limping. She had trodden on some particularly nasty burrs, some of which had gone right into the gaps in her paws. They must have hurt to have in and hurt to have pulled out. They were so sharp that ten m minutes later my fingers were still sore from where I had pulled them out of Rex's paws and my shoes and socks- I think they were what people here call Bohena Beauties

On my way to Bellata this morning I noticed some pretty impressive crops of sorghum. These pictures were taken just south of Edgeroi. While taking the photo of the sunflower there were kookaburras laughing happily in the trees. Very peaceful for the highway.

I came across this little fellow when I was putting the garbage out this afternoon.

He is one of my favourite snakes- a dead one.

I suspect that Pheebs our cat might have killed it this afternoon.

It seemed like a really busy day today- full on with people from early to late afternoon.

I had a lovely time with the Bellata kids. On the way there I noticed a paddock full of sunflowers- it's been a few years since anyone has grown them, at least along the highway. It could be a sign the drought is over.
