UsefulOpera index (UOi)

the index that really tells the truth

UsefulOpera index - CLARIFICATIONS

UOi is:
- an index that tells how many of the top 5 (five) most important web sites you usually access, Opera correctly handles: UOi tells how much Opera covers your most important browsing needs
- an index that tells how much you are forced to use some other browser to use one of your top 5 favorite sites
- a status index: UOi will tipically vary in time
- an index related to webpages: things you access through HTTP or HTTPS and that are targeted for human reading and/or interaction into an internet web browser.
- UOi is only related to web pages and web sites core functionnalities
- UOi is valuable (that is: means something) only to the person it was created by. This because UOi is a personal status index. If my UOi is low, this doesn't mean that yours will be.

UOi is not:
- a way of reporting bugs to opera
- a request for bug support
- an average index on all the websites we find that Opera can open or cannot open in our entire life (it's just an index on the 5 or 10 most important websites for us, at the moment)
- an historical index related to site that don't exist anymore

(these clarifications are always a work in progess)

UsefulOpera index - HOW TO

Calculate your UOi:
1. count the web sites that are most important to you (e.g. 5)
2. count how many web sites you can access with Opera, without no problems of any kind (full support of all the core features of the site) (e.g. 3) [small errors should be ignored]
3. calculate your UsefulOpera index dividing the number of fully working sites by the number of all the sites (e.g. 3/5=0.6)

Publish your UOi as a signature in the forums, like me.

UsefulOpera index - the launch

,

This Blog defines the "UsefulOpera index" and gives room to discussion on it.

The UsefulOpera index (UOi) is a number that synthetically says how much Opera is useful in browsing the internet sites around the world, to the person the index is related to.

At the moment (the 27th of November 2006) my UsefulOpera index is of 0,4, meaning that Opera works correctly only on 2 out of the 5 sites I care the most (that is 4 out of 10, that is 0,4).

I hope that my own UsefulOpera index will grow up to 1 (this would mean I always use Opera on the sites I care the most), until that moment, I will be... mostly using other browsers for browsing my favorite sites!

Calculate your own UsefulOpera index and use it as your signature in the forums, now!

Anyone out there is invited to calculate his/her own UsefulOpera index and use as a signature in the Opera forums.

The important things of the UOi is that it focuses only on the *main*, *few*, sites we think that are really important to us in day by day life. The idea behind this is to clarify to us, firstly, and to others, secondly, the priorities we have while we browse and the limitations we find while doing it with Opera.

The index should only count 5 or maybe 10 websites in total, not more.

See the HOW-TO, and the clarifications.
