Old Sarum

Here are some pictures of Old Sarum, in Salisbury - it's an iron age hillfort on top of a motte and bailey structure. Dating back as far as 3000 BC for the original inhabitants, the outer bank was then added in the iron age, and a castle was plonked on top of it in AD c1069. Nothing more than ruins and stories are left of these structures, and the cathedral has even less to show - There is plenty of beauty in the area though, with views that stretch for miles, and information about the entire area place on signs.

The third one was taken from a small plane, which was a very fun ride

hehe, either that or you are very very tall
Old Sarum looks like a really interesting place, would there have been water surrounding the castle once? (a moat full of swans:))

I am tall! Just... not that tall  its quite high up, and the bank is steep enough to not need water - there is a river fairly close, but not enough to have fed a moat  The swans mainly keep to the avon, which is slightly south of there (south is at the top of the picture)
