A Woolly Weekender .....

,

OK, so there wasn't any real surf to talk of as the wind was far too bloody strong but it was great to get down at last. A few beers upon arrival on the Friday night and then we had a few more on the Saturday  OK, it was too windy for the likes of me to get wet (Ste was involved in a comp and I might throw some pics up later) but the messed up swell would have been impossible for me to paddle out though.

Walks along the beach with the pup were the activity of the weekend and even then the wind was strong enough to push you over if you weren't paying enough attention :D

The VW crew were out in force and in the main carpark there was a line-up of about 20 classics .... a mix of splits, classics and rats

Just got to work out when I can next get down and if we can get to the Xmas Party weekend :drunk:

SAS needs your support ....... get involved!

No Surfing this month ......

Bugger .... I was planning on hitting the beach at the end of the month but after just forking out £500 on my car and £120 on a plaumber I'm a little skint and any travels to the beach are going to have to be put on hold 'til next month

I think this is part of the reason I'm starting to crack-up :clown: .... managed to get wet over Xmas very briefly but it was cold and the conditions were pretty poor, so I haven't really had a decent surf in almost 2 months now Homer: Doh! Hopefully the guys at the surf club will get some session dates sorted out soon and I'll have no excuse not to get down.

Surf Report ..... Woolacombe

Wow, the surf is looking good this weekend :D Just a shame that I'm going to be at home and will miss it
Not very big at the moment but in the next 24hrs, we should see an increase in the swell. By Saturday morning we should have a very ridable and clean(ish) 4ft+ of surf. There will be a slight (5mph+) x-onshore breeze knocking the surf a little out of shape but it's still going to be very worth getting wet for! If it does get a little too knocked-up, then I'd bounce over to Saunton for a more protected surf.

Cracking Party ......

,

The guys and girls put on a good show with all the fancy dress outfits. My Magnum PI outfit was amusing but even I have to admit to being a little too short to make a convincing Hawian legend

The surf even made a more than decent appearance for the weekend and both Lisa and me hit the water for a quick afternoon session. The water wasn't too bad (about 10'C) but the land temperature was close to 0'C if you took the wind-chill into account.

The evening was a great success and this year (probably because I wasn't drinking)I didn't fall on my arse in the Barn :D THe guys at Sophia's put on a great spread of food and everyone seemed to tuck in ..... although we still managed to leave quite a bit of grub by the end.

I've added some pics of the weekends surf and if I can be bothered (or not to ashamed of my outfit), I'll throw a few pics of the fancydress outfits up here as well :raider:

WLSC Xmas Party tomorrow .....

,

Must remember to grab the camera before hitting the road after work today. Tomorrow night in the Woolacombe Longboarders Surf Club Xmas Party. It's a fancy dress affair with the only rule being 'Retro'. Confused quite a few folk but I think everyone has now got themselves sorted  Me ..... I'm going to as - well, I'll let you know after the weekend!
A good few of us are gathering and Sophias is a great place to start the night .... they've even opened-up just for us (most of Woolly closes for the winter season as only fools like myself hit the beach in freezing conditions).

----------- SURF REPORT-----------

Talking of hitting the beach, the surf isn't looking half bad for the weekend ahead. It's a bit messy and blown-out at the moment but the wind should drop over the next 24hrs and leave us with a decent bit of clean swell to play with. 2-3ft and getting cleaner on Saturday and 1-2ft and pretty clean on Sunday :spock: The only down-side is that it's going to be fecking cold ...... 10'C water temp and temperatures ranging from -1'C to 5'C on the land - Brrrrrr :faint: Although on the up-side, the crappy rain should also move on and leave us with some nice sunshine over the entire weekend.

Scotland .....

,

Just realised I know absolutely nothing about the geography of Scotland ..... apart from the main cities :worried:
Why does that matter ..... well, I'm thinking the next summers adventure will be a road trip across the northern border. It'll be quite a pull to get me away from my usual surf-focused summer but I can throw the boards on the roof and the mtb on the back and go hunting for some prefect blue or a bloody great hill/mountain hill to throw myself down.
Personally I'd love to visit Thurso but that really would be a long road trip :yikes:

Anyone out there got a tip or two to get me started?

weekend Surf ...... last weekend in November!

Get in later this afternoon or earlier in the day tomorrow and you should be able to grab upto 2ft of pretty clean swell. Wait until Suinday and it's likely that you will miss it all and be left with 1ft of chop. Light winds (4mph) from a E-direction will make for good conditions if you can get in with the push of the tide

14 surfers take to the waves ......... on 1 board!

,

A 14-strong team has surfed into the world record books by riding a wave on a single giant surfboard in Cornwall :D
Tuesday's record bid was held at St Ives, on a 37-feet board weighing 400lb.

On their fourth attempt the team of 12 men and two women stood up and surfed into shore together, setting the first official world record for the most people riding a single board.

The team included the cream of British surfers, as well as an Australian and three South Africans.

Britain's surf champion Alan Stokes, 22, said riding the two feet wave with his team was not easy.

Surf ...... Sunday is looking good!

Need to get my site updates but my files are on my portable HD and that's in the car! Anyway, today is looking a tad messy (messed-up wind-swell) but wait 'til tomorrow and a drop in wind speeds and we could see 2-3ft of pretty decent surf slapping up the beach
