What on earth

Attention-deficit Disorder?

I now know what I have. The symptoms are clear: “as soon as I start concentrating on one subject, something interesting pops up somewhere else, and I explore it for a few weeks, and then get distracted by something else.” According to the Geotripper (in the post here) this could mean that I suffer from "a scientific version of attention-deficit disorder”. Well, suffer is not the right word, it is more like delight. There are always new moments of joy, when I discover things that I did not know. It means however that my posts jump from subject to subject. Something that happened million of years ago or yesterday - in Australia or Greenland. Sedimentology, seismology, biogeography, biostratigraphy, geomorphology, geophysics, geochemistry or whatever pops up in my mind - forced by what I happen to read about.

And now that we are in the geoblogosphere (did I ever promise that I would never blog about blogging?) - Green gabbro has taught me why I blog, but don’t use the "Blogging on Peer-Reviewed Research" icon, here.

I blog because it's a fun and easy way to share things that I find exciting. I blog because it helps me understand what I read. I write about geology, because I find geological knowledge of vital importance, apart from being interesting. I write about geological research, in an effort to show its importance for society. And I hope to point my readers to pages with more interesting reading than mine. I don't blog because I want to have a scientific discussion about peer reviewed sciencey science. Apart from for myself, I write for everybody, whatever and whoever they are.
