Oww and the cool thing about this cartoon is that Sean Penn dose one of the voices in the English version
Genre: Foreign Animated Autobiography Drama Comedy
Directed By: Vincent Paronnaud, Marjane Satrapi
Running Time: 1:35
Co-written and co-directed by Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud, the French-language picture stars the voices ofChiara Mastroianni, Catherine Deneuve, Danielle Darrieux, and Simon Abkarian. The English version, starring the voices of Gena Rowlands, Sean Penn, and Iggy Pop, was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature in January 2008.
A pleasant surprise, "Persepolis" is a beautiful and wrenching autobiography with wonderful animation, competent voice acting, and a story that needs to be heard again and again.

I finally saw "Persepolis" last night. It is an incredible movie. The animation is stunning, touching, cute, mesmerizing. I cannot believe it was all done by hand.
I mentioned to Sahand, my Persian co-host on my radio segment, that I would be watching the movie. He said he had read the book but couldn't watch it. Now I understand why. It's painful enough for an American to watch; I can't imagine how it made you feel to watch it.
The questions that came to my mind many times were: Is the government still that oppressive? Do women still have to be covered when in public? Are parties tolerated now? In other words, has the situation improved?
I highly, highly recommend this movie & am grateful to Marjane Satrapi for sharing her very personal story with the world.
My favorite quote from the movie was when grandma said to Marjane: "You've grown so much you can almost grab God by the balls."
