The Costs of War
Sunday, 6. April 2008, 01:03:12
Sadly, this data does not reflect the cost to other countries embroiled in this travesty along with us. I've added Iraqi civillian death toll data, but I've seen estimates ten times as high as what's is reflected here.

I was working in something similar for the 5th anniversary of the Iraq war. By the end of it I had a sick feeling.
thank you for bringing once more awareness of this night mare !

our reputation in the world lower than it was
and a debt of over a trillion,
that even out grandchildren will continue paying.

As for the deep pain of the families that are directly effected ,
no statistics
and no compensation can make any difference.
To them bringing back our troops is the only answer.

I just hope that we do it in a smart way (for a change)
and we don't leave more chaos than what we created already.

(Just teasin', of course. I have a sticky, myself. I was unaware of your hatred for them.)
On topic - the number of deaths thus far is mind boggling. How many more people need to die 'til we finally pull out of there?!

And the number of deaths is horrifying. The number of wounded is equally so. I heard from a parent f a wounded soldier who is in Walter Reed (VA Hospital) in the DC area, that the hotel that is part of the complex, which was once used to host parents and family of wounded vets who were hospitalized is now completely full of wounded soldiers, and family must stay off-site.
And those "wounded" figures include only physical injuries. How many more are suffering mental distress as a result of their service?

Tamara, as a Texan, you must have had some sense of what was coming after he screwed up your state as badly as he screwed up that oil comany and the Rangers.
I just put up an Iraqi civillian death counter that clams something under 100,000. I've seen estimates as high as ten times that many - verification is a bear, since the military refuses to count for public relations reasons. Even if there was some tie to 9/11 in Iraq, it's hard to defent trading our 3400 to 100,000. Or a million.
Doesn't really matter where the dead count is - it's too high, and horrifyingly depressing.

Support American War Veterans.
In 2005, 815,915 people attempted suicide in the US (32,637 people were successful).
Here's something interesting (horrifying): men commit suicide at a rate almost four times that of women, but women attempt suicide three times as often as men.
There are more suicides in the US each year than murders.

i can only guess that it must be something like "every one of them i kill is one less that will have a chance to kill me."
i am still puzzling over the statistics you posted in your comment noah.
math is not my strong point but it looks like roughly, one out of twenty four attempts at suicide are successful... that makes me wonder a lot.

can't seem to get my head around that one.
we certainly do live in interesting times.

any voted President in his worst day will do better that what Bush did in his best day!
Vote it is your right.Exercise it.
That's the only reason I became an American citizen.
All my benefits were available to me with a green card.
A born American who doesn't vote is an American that doesn't do his part for a change.

You are right - according to this source, roughly on in 25 attempts is successful.

I fail to see what the postal officer's son is doing in Iraq.
After all Saddam got instated with us help, back in the days.
Sad numbers, and climbing too high, too fast.
ellinidata # 18. May 2008, 11:07
when the postal office's son wanted an education and had no funds to pay his tuition the army did pay for his education
what "the postal officer's son" didn't know was that he will become an educated invader.
Non of the poor kids knew that by enlisting they will end up paying back their college tuition with their lives.
That's why the American people do support the troops. They are the young kids with dreams that end up in a coffin.

the war would have been over a long time ago
Education is not free in our country,
rich people do not need the army to pay their way to college , poor kids do.

It took some Americans 8 years to see who they voted for,
and 5 years to realize there is a war going on that destroys many lives
at least they wake up,
this nightmare took way too long and it's not even close to the end

I've been trying to keep my eye on it, but lost my contacts when TagWorld.com changed their user format. Thanks for link. When Bush #1 was elected and failed to improve the economy, we should have realized the apple (Bush II) wouldn't fall far from the tree.
And, With Bush running the show and waving his pen like it's a magic wand, are we even going to have a next election, or will he decide there's a national emergency and therefore, the election will be put off? He's now saying we need to work on the economy - I want to see him turn it around in 5 months - The Democratic party failed us when Pelosi promised to impeach him and then renigged on the deal.
No matter which president is next elected - if we get that chance - the first thing the new president should do is bring our men & women home - or pull the extra 1 million plus out of the rest of the bases and put them in Iraq to help with the shortage.

I'm voting for Obama - McCain is war hungry and we've spent way too much on it.
@Tamara - vote - It doesn't matter who you pick - everyone who is able to needs to with this upcoming election!
