Hanging around in a one horse town

MIA, Snow, Big Ol' Song List, and Such-like

I know, I haven't been posting - though I've been commenting here and there - unemployment has me down, I think. I just can't seem to think of anything to say, lately. I assume it's temporary, so here I am to remind you that I am alive

We had 6 inches of snow on Monday night. Tuesday, we had 13 hours of sleet (which translated to about an inch, if you're keeping track). In the wee hours this morning, it changed back to snow, and we got about seven more inches of snow. There are 14 inches of snow on the doghouse, though the official total is an inch less than that. All of which means I spent a lot of time this morning with a snow shove and my MP3 player. What follows is (roughly) the playlist that accompanied me while I sweat and swore. I couldn't find all the songs, so I've omitted some, and I replaced others with something by the same artist. I am sure glad we have music - it makes the worst kinds of labor bearable.
Thanks for bearing with me while I'm speechless

noah counte 29. January 2009, 03:10

Hiya Henry! Nice to see you, and I'm glad you enjoyed the list. I have no idea how long it is, because I was paying no attention to how long I spent shoveling. There's something in there for just about everyone but opera fans, though.

BabyJay99 29. January 2009, 04:21

Hello Sir Matthew

AOTEAROAnz 29. January 2009, 04:35

 Excuse me! Snow! I was too blowin' out by the playlist Homer: Doh!
Is it expected to subside ? Hope so buddy. You'll get thru  No mechanical snow diggers?...Salt?...
Getting back to the other serious issue..i have a soft spot For Missy H..I haven't heard Maroon5 - Sunday Morn in a while  another top track! I seem to be having a déjà vu. Was it weather :sherlock: No it was unwell children! Last time i checked out your late night playlist.

"I spent a lot of time this morning with a snow shove and my MP3 player"

This is an amazing combination !
I guess you covered a weeks exersice and two weeks posts all in one! p:

five inches slimmer waist line
and making your friends dance
early in the morning,
it is priceless

nudelsieb 29. January 2009, 15:25

I quite like being outside shoveling. It's quiet, you do something useful while enjoying the snowy weather and even something "sporty"
Unfortunately this year, we have only max. 1 inch of snow and it turns into ice very fast. That makes no good shovel feeling...

noah counte 29. January 2009, 16:27

Ice just does not want to be shoveled. I do not mind shoveling snow, either - it's cathartic. There comes a point where I no longer wish to be shoveling though, and I reached that point yesterday.

CultureSurfer 29. January 2009, 22:54

Opera's a great place to hang but you should never feel obligated to post or comment. (I have to remind myself of that from time to time.)

At least you are in very good company unemployment-wise with so many losing jobs. Hope you find something soon. flirt

We've got a ton of snow, too, but we are opposed to shoveling unless absolutely necessary.

noah counte 30. January 2009, 02:27

We plowed and shoveled for hours. I still can't get the car out of the driveway. Of course, I did look at the road, and I can't see the pavement, so I don't know how good the driving is, anyway.

I don't feel obligated, so much as I feel frustrated that I can't find things to say.

dragon_harrower 30. January 2009, 03:57

Excellent song list! I listened to the entire thing tonight.

noah counte 30. January 2009, 14:25

 I'm glad you enjoyed, Casey!

CultureSurfer 30. January 2009, 15:21

Wow. Sounds like you guys got a lot more snow than we did. I was finally able to park on the street yesterday.

noah counte 30. January 2009, 16:06

I took Vashti to school this morning, but our roads are still snow covered and slick. I had to borrow my father's 4WD, just to get out of the driveway. I'm going to try getting the car out again in a few minutes, but I'm not terribly hopeful.

dragon_harrower 30. January 2009, 16:11

How could I not enjoy it?

noah counte 30. January 2009, 16:40

It's hard to argue opinions, you know! Not everyone has my unqualified excellent taste!

dragon_harrower 30. January 2009, 16:44

 That's so very true!

ellinidata 30. January 2009, 16:52

" Not everyone has my unqualified excellent taste!"

not even close to it , if I am add p:

noah counte 30. January 2009, 17:07

Nerak 30. January 2009, 18:33

It's excellent to read another one of your posts. I totally understand the whole not feeling up to bloggin' lately. Makes sense. I have faitht that there will come a time when you will again have the urge to fill us with useless info! Unltill then, just know that we're here for ya'...pittying the foo' for having to shovel! p:

CultureSurfer 30. January 2009, 19:04

@ Karen Like the new avatar!

noah counte 31. January 2009, 03:14

Ain't no foo' like a shovelin' foo'!

Mandarinlounge 2. February 2009, 17:08

aaaaawwww I love garbage! my fav since I was an angry teenager. Have you heard of the ting tings? they are a british pop band! I will have to give these others in your playlist a try.

CheliC 2. February 2009, 21:28

Ohhh, I love me some Ben Lee. Thanks for sharing Matthew.

I'm with you on the unemployment blues. Plus, the weather really does stink around here. If my grandmother was alive, she would tell you to keep thinking of Spring. Only 46 more days!

noah counte 4. February 2009, 02:38

I do enjoy the Ting Tings, ManderinLounge. Pop duos make me happy.

Hi Cheli, I won't be surprised if we still have mounds of snow on the ground in 46 days, particularly in the parking lots of grocery stores, where it is mounded into heaps that are easily 12 feet high. There was a HUGE wreck between you and me this morning. Scary.

CheliC 4. February 2009, 08:15

I heard about the wreck tonight on the news. They said there were at least 30 cars involved, and sadly, a couple of fatalities. It's weird because we had a nice day here.

noah counte 4. February 2009, 19:29

They had almost three inches of snow in an hour. We had two in an hour here, and it was crazy! I'd never drive in something like that, unless I was already out - then I'd look for some place to pull over.

Nerak 4. February 2009, 22:07

I want you to know that I'm very sorry I've not been around to attempt to lift your spirits any. That's not a very good friend of me, and for that, I genuinely apologize.

I know you've been going through quite a rough time for an unbelievable amount of time now. Although it feels like everything is falling apart at the seams, I have to tell you that from what I know, you've been handling it with such grace, dignity, and the best of spirits that can be expected.

If anything, I hope to Hell that you're not beating yourself up for any of the crap that's been thrown your way. You're a much more intelligent man than to believe a load of bunk like that. You have so much to offer...as you've told me several times in the past, things always happen for a reason. The bitch of the situation is figuring out what the heck reason this could be. I wish I could offer some sort of worldly advice and set you on a path to enlightenment. Let's get real, though. I'm just some bewb loving', coffee guzzlin', Nintendo playin' dork over here on the left coast doing my best to keep my feet warm.

Anyway, bottom line is this: You are one of the most important people in my life. I am and will always be here for you if you need me. If there is anything at any time you can think of that I can do, please say the word! Even if it's just using my dorky name as a reference or something...anything. Just say it!

MIA. Locked in a cabin in the woods outside of Nashville, with local crappy painters bringing you nothing but tenderloins, rock candy, and Southern Comfort as your daily sustenance, beaten with a ruler on your wrists until you came up with a huge-ass song-list to put on your blog...

Listened to all of them. Except the Maroon 5. It took me two days.

Good luck with the Snow-Fu.

CultureSurfer 4. February 2009, 23:58

Karen, you rock! Matt is definitely one totally cool dude who deserves a whopping big break!

Nerak 5. February 2009, 01:05

:o: Thank you so much, Naomi. You're quite the rocker yourself. :D

Matthew - Seems as though Angeliki snuck her little birthday wishes in before I could get that card out to Tina. Oh well...figures. Please let Tina know that my thoughts are with her, I hope she's feeling well, and I hope her day will go better than she probably thinks it will.

ellinidata 5. February 2009, 01:27

 I won a race that I did not know I was in?

Nerak 5. February 2009, 01:35

I don't recall saying you won anything, but if that's how you choose to look at it, mmmkay. :left:

ellinidata 5. February 2009, 02:00

noah counte 5. February 2009, 03:12

"I'm not dead! I'm getting better. I feel fine!"

"I feel happy!"

Tina had a nice birthday, and is now resting comfortably. Thank you all for the kind words :D

ellinidata 5. February 2009, 03:18

""I'm not dead!"

good thing since the cart was out of order!!

any cake left ??

noah counte 5. February 2009, 03:21

Probably, though I only had one slice, and we had to feed a crew. My sister and her kids were here for several days, due to the Kentucky power outages.

ellinidata 5. February 2009, 04:32

the only good part when a bad weather hits is ,
the family gets a together time

noah counte 5. February 2009, 22:31

Three and a half snow days had the kids excited... Nice, until spring comes, and the make up days are tacked on the end of the year.

ellinidata 6. February 2009, 00:50

it is so cold in New York today,
no gloves can protect ones hands!
a security guard asked for my drivers licence
to allowed to a restricted area,
and my hands were not funtioning!
I am glad I wasn't arrested
every thing it's frozen !

Not to mention I wasted a perfectly good tea
by leaving it in the car,
I had to remove a crust of ice after
30minutes I returned to it!

PainterWoman 8. February 2009, 03:43

Fun and interesting playlist. If I had to pick faves it'd be Beck and Joe Jackson.

noah counte 8. February 2009, 13:06

They are way up on my list, too. :D

qlue 11. February 2009, 17:03

The hardest job of all is looking for a job. And nobody is willing to say you to do it either. awww.
I'm employed now, but I do recall the many wasted years of unemployment. I think it's the most depressing situation to erod oneself in and it's made so much worse by know-it-alls who keep telling you to "get a job". I used to shut them up by suggesting that they could employ me since it's so easy to get a job. I'll be praying for you and I hope that things turn around for you. It's not easy in your line of work these days. Stay strong and remember that we're all in God's hands and He knows better than we do what's good for us..
Let me just take this opportunity also to thank God for providing me with employment and keeping me fit and healthy to be able to continue working. Many of our friends here on My Opera are unable to work due to ill health and it is a great blessing from God to be able to work in the first place. And Mathew, I must thank you also, for reminding me how fortunate I am to have so much to be thankfull for. Your blog posts are a great pleasure and I treasure whatever time I can spend here. We live but one day at a time.

noah counte 11. February 2009, 18:22

Thank you for the breath of fresh air, Aadil. They are like wind in my sails today.

I have for which I am thankful, too. I do not have to look far to find people who have less, endure more hardship, and have every right to be bitter or upset, but they carry on with smiles on their faces. Sometimes I need to be reminded that I will not be burdened with more than I can bear.

It's always nice to see you here. Thank you for the kind words.
