Alice Russell has been drawing comparisons to Amy Winehouse (seems like every English girl with a retro sound is the new Amy Winehouse, doesn't it?). I hope she's soberer.

I don't hear it, myself. And she's been cranking out albums for five years or so, so maybe Winehouse sounds like Russell? You can be the judge. She's soulful, and I defy you not to bob your head. Or dance. Or sign up for dance lessons so you can dance.

no way ,not one chance in h*** there is a comparison! Just listening the
very respectable list you have here (not to forget the " Harry on now ") the Russell voice is exceptional,
the only new artist that can be in a small way close to her is

Oooohhh....Tired Little One is the best. I hear no comparison either. Russell has a much more melodic voice. And hopefully a better hairdo.

Well, can't say that I like Russel based on these. But thanks for the introduction anyway. As for Winehouse, I don't think I've ever heard her. Unless it was by accident on a juke box at a bar and I didn't know it.

I think I'll stick with this one for the time being.

As for Janis, she might have been even more "substance prone" than Winehouse. Too bad for either, of course.

Not so much into this music. Prefer Amy's voice, or Joss Stone or Duffy's voice. I like the huffiness in their voices. This Alice Russell's voice is a bit too screechy for me. awww
