Hanging around in a one horse town

Gone Green (or, at least, not to the landfill)

,

A very funny conversation in another blog started me thinking...

How many things can you do with those old AOL (or other) CDs? I mean arty things. Anyone can chuck 'em under the bed. But you - you can do cool stuff! I've always just used them as coasters, but starting today, with the help of people who have way too much time on their hands, I'm moving up!

First on the list, a CD Disco Ball. Looks easy, though you'd better have strong hands and sharp scissors.

Watch the video:

How about trendy patio lights?

Here's A Whole List Of Things To do With Used Cds. Ideas there include walpaper borders, candle drip cathers, and a zillion Christmasy ornaments/decorations.

Make a mini Hovercraft. Yes. Do it:

Try sculpture.

Build a lamp.

Maybe it's worth using the CD as a canvas?

Wall art made from CDs. It's a .pdf, and it's way too artsy (and not nearly techie enough) for me. Scrapbookers will love it.

Should have seen this one coming: Make a mobile.

Sheer genius - it's curtains for you!

Rumor has it that you can string old Cds around the garden to scare off the birds who pluder your veggies...

You can buy clock works from your local hobby shop, and use old CDs as clock faces.

I'm at work, or I'd spend more time looking. Hopefully, there's something there for you to try!

Awesome! I'm so going to make some neato stuff with all the CDRs I have laying around! Thanks for posting this...and for letting me know you had posted it!

My pleasure - have fun. I'll probably watch tv. 10 years without a tv, and I never missed it. One year back with a satelite, and I'm a total goner!

Karen 10. January 2008, 20:51

Satellite will do it! :D

Matthew 10. January 2008, 21:08

Yes indeed. If only there was something on!!! I watch less of value now than I did when I had no reception at all!

Those of you who enjoyed CD projects (that's you, Karen), may appreciate "12 Uses for Plastic Lids." You know how the container wears out before the lid? Now you can do something with it, besides throw it away.

Yay! :hat: Thanks for posting this! I like the idea of a plastic bag dispenser. Currently I have about 49587349 plastic bags wadded up in one big bag and placed under the kitchen sink. I'm a total neat-freak, so it's been bugging me for a while. Now I know what to do with 'em! w00t!

Matthew 14. January 2008, 17:38

You go, girl!

I trundle them off to recycling once a week. I'm no neat freak, but some things just irk me - and plastic bags overflowing from under the sink is one of them!

Karen 14. January 2008, 17:59

Yeah, that's enough to make pretty much anybody go loony! :insane:

Matthew 14. January 2008, 18:25

Loony is what I do best!

Karen 14. January 2008, 18:26

Yay! We're on the same wavelength then! :hat:

Matthew 14. January 2008, 18:31

Party on, Wayne!

Karen 14. January 2008, 18:40

Party time...excellent!

Matthew 14. January 2008, 18:55

If we're on the same wavelength, then you know ANYtime is party time!
