It´s never too late to live in the present

Upright fruit bowl

I´ve been a little bit sad because I´ve had to cancel my fruitbowl. A swerm of small flies rose fromthe grapes :frown: I saved the apples and the bananas and the oranges..but the grapes had to go. I eat a lot of fruit, but i also like to look at the fruitbowl and its content. The colours and the forms of the fruits. The bowl is a sculptural pleasure to watch. But now I have to put my fruite in the fridge, so it wont go bad too soon.
To satisfy my eyes I made this Upright fruit bowl out of a big vase, coloured rubber balls and shiny metal balls. The naturel qualities of the pieces of fruits exellent shapes and sharp colours and reflexions are tried reconstructed. For me, the visual satisfaction has returned
And I can still eat fresh fruit from the fridge  :D

Yes, fruit is definitely best in the fridge...but you've made a very interesting replica there

:D It's  Nik.

good thinking. bugs are a pain in the ass. i go through fruits and vegetables so fast with my juicer i can leave them out to decorate the kitchen. i eat everything before it starts swarming.

still battling the roaches though. i have traps, bombs and baited poison devises, plus roach motels and boric acid barriers but they just keep on coming from other peoples apartments.

Roaches will explode with some spice. I can't remember which one, Scott. It is red.

Flies -- Grrrr!

I enjoy your sculpture, too, Nic!

Enjoy your fruit, Nic

I_ArtMan 23. August 2008, 03:43

paprica? cayenne?

BabyJay99 23. August 2008, 04:31

 I like the pix.

gdare 23. August 2008, 04:38

You could put both fruit and fruit bowl in a fridge

attilasoul 23. August 2008, 06:49

I don't like fruit from the fridge. I think they loose some of the taste from it. I prefer cold fruits over flies though. :D
Your new decoration is almost Christmas-ish.

ricewood 23. August 2008, 07:35

I agree with attila - fruits from the fridge loose flavor.

Personality I prefer grapes at the point when they are just starting to ferment a bit. Preferably without flies, though.

I'd have some fruit in a bowl on the table for shows - just like flowers. Then some other in something with a lid for eating. How about that?

gdare 23. August 2008, 08:39

*chewing on some grapes at the moment*

nopanic 23. August 2008, 09:54

@ Dacotah
Yeah D. fine fruits from fridge  :D

@ Scott
I love fruit Scott, but if I eat it too fast my stomac cramps :frown:
Thank God, I´ve never had roaches in my flat. When I lived on a farm, we had mice...a lot. The cats couldn´t keep up

@ Elly
So glad you like the artsy thing about it. I´m a shape- and colour addict at the moment

@ Leazz
Thankyou and welcome here

@ Darko
That´s not such a bad idea Darkie. I would like a fridge with the light on inside it all the time and a see through glass front. Then I would put the fruitbowl in there and buy colourful and beautifully shaped containers for the rest.

@ Attila
That´s right Tilla, I feel the same way, but I usually eat fruit after Breakfast, lunch and supper. I cut the fruits and place them on a plate in order to warm up to room tempreture while i eat my meal. After the meal I eat the fruit

@ Allan
I like grapes that are a bit hard and sour. It frechens up the mouth :D
When I have guests I sometimes put a fruit bowl on the table for decoration. Then we eat what we can and the pieces that turns bat I throw out  To my pleseaure I found out that small ecological unsprayed danish apples can last for ages outside and they maintain a bright colour for a long time

wickedlizard 23. August 2008, 13:49

very nice! :D

another idea, would be to use that bowl and put a mix of colored glass and ice and maybe some fruit... and set is so that is catches light....

nopanic 23. August 2008, 17:28

Thanks. Great idea Iz

lokutus_prime 23. August 2008, 17:59

nic - the pic is great!

nopanic 23. August 2008, 18:21

Thanks Loku!

Aqualion 23. August 2008, 22:49

Maybe your next project will be a fruit case... Sorry... Stupid joke!

:D

nopanic 23. August 2008, 22:56

Don´t worry Kjeldsen. I´m not touchy. I use ALL inputs.
Hmm "The iconized fruit case" A good title for a piece of art :jester:

momable 24. August 2008, 06:26

Scott, it was paprika I believe that makes roaches blow up; and they say the roaches won't come out at daytime so you can "starve them" if you leave your lights on. That is bad for your electric bill, though. So, if you know where they march out from, put a flashlight there.
Bay leaves repel them and they can die with boric acid powder.

Also, one article says:

Some effective general pest deterrents are garlic, dried tomato leaves, chamomile and fresh mint. Leave these items around the house to keep bugs away. One substitute that kills roaches, flies, fleas, ants and a variety of garden pests is diatomaceous earth, the skeletal remains of microscopic aquatic plants that lived millions of years ago. The tiny sharp fragments cut through insect shells, fatally dehydrating the pests.

nopanic 24. August 2008, 08:02

*taking notes*

1bluebox 26. August 2008, 01:30

diatomaceous earth

yes, that is a natural solution -- sometimes the quanitity needed to deter and kill insects is worse that just letting the dust build up.

i prefer the use spiders and a sugar water trap. fruit flies are hardest though because they breed worse than roaches -- fruit flies do not live as long as a roach does, but the soul purpose of them is to eat, breed, die. the dirt dobber is also a natural enemy to the fruit fly, but who wants dirt dobbers in their house.

if you don't mind washing your fruit before you consume it, you can spray a solution of one part liquid dish soap to ten parts water directly on the flies (kills them like aphids on roses); then just wash the fruit. there might be an aftertaste as others described with refrigeration though.

i should eat more fresh fruit, but here lately i've fallen in love with dried apricots, rasins, and nuts (not peanuts). these i keep in a sealed jar and the colors are there just not as bright as a fresh fruit bowl. just curious, but why the metalic looking balls?

nopanic 26. August 2008, 07:01

Hi Deborah
I´ll try your adwise with the dish washer soap. I have a bottle with a spray pump. I wash my fruit when I put it in the bowl and just before eating it as well p:
Furthermore I might try Scotts idea as well. Have got a glassbowl that´s completely round, as a ball. Just need tofind a lid of some sort. Then the fruit will be protected completely
The metallic balls are for the reflexions, their form and their ability to steal colours from the other items in the bowl. The also tell that it´s not a real fruit bowl :D

1bluebox 26. August 2008, 09:20

thanks nic, that makes a log of sense. sometimes when i want to cover something like a round object, i use a dinner plate or a platter. i have a glass cake stand that might work too. by placing the fruit on the stand (where the cake should be), i could cover it with the cake cover. only problem might be if the fruit moved each time the cover is lifted -- maybe an additional supporting bowl on the cake stand to hold the fruit in place . . . .

nopanic 26. August 2008, 09:55

Sounds effective Deb

Mickeyjoe_irl 26. August 2008, 09:56

Great idea, you'll never have to worry about those going off.

Just don't try to eat them :yuck:

Henar 27. August 2008, 12:38

Great idea! It´s like you wrote before in my blog: "Make your home a living happening".
I LOVE IT!!!!!
Now I can´t stop thinking about more of these "small happenings" I can do at home... I´m inspired!!!!!

nopanic 27. August 2008, 13:58

HEY! that´s great Henar. I´ll look forward to see what you come up with in the line of interior decoration. I hope you´ll share with us through some posts of yours
