It´s never too late to live in the present

Moving on

In my last post called “Yvonne” I described a carachter I´ve painted on the canvas.

Several of you, my opera friends, commented that she looked a kind of strict  I´ve tried to soften her up a bit. She is still at a rough stage. I´ll work on her attitude some more later
The important thing for me lately has been to try and create some kind of enviroment for her. I´ve taken up Allans idea to add more doors and windows. Some kind of house is growing up around her now.
Here I can use my education as a building tecnician. :D

Yvonne is standing in the doorway in her home..that much I know now. My only reference was the main front door. I drew helping lines from that door, in all directions so the surrounding doors and windows would corrrespond to the main front door. After some time the house façade reminded me of a row of houses from the harbour and I decided that Yvonne and her 9 year old daughter are living in a place just like that. Yvonne has been living as a single mom before, but her status now I´ll keep open for the time being…

A picture and a story to match :yay:

She looks a little sad and a little stoic.... Very melodramatic.

Allan 10. December 2008, 16:31

I like her

Nicolas Borgsmidt 10. December 2008, 18:12

@ Star
It´s very new to me to put so many words into a painting..long before it is finished

@ Lois
Thankyou Lois. I´m glad you like it!

@ Shaunak

@ Allan
Good Allan. I promise you, she´s both deep and intelligent!

Adele 10. December 2008, 19:47

It's really interesting to see your thought process at work here

Nicolas Borgsmidt 10. December 2008, 19:51

Thanks Adele. It´s a new way to approach it. I was a bit stuck. Now there will be some kind of story as I move along

Kimberly 11. December 2008, 04:14

very cool idea

Eliane a/k/a Elly 11. December 2008, 06:53

Hey, put her in that cool pyramidal building from the harbor!

Nicolas Borgsmidt 11. December 2008, 12:35

I don´t think so...the approach of that building is too massive and heavy :left: And far too old.

Eliane a/k/a Elly 11. December 2008, 21:10

Well,it is up to you -- I just dig that building.

As they say, "No skin off my back."

 It will look excellent no matter what kind of place.

+1

Babs 12. December 2008, 23:15

There's no light behind her - I'm wondering where this painting is heading. Love the idea of the house - and "was a single parent"

Kimberly 12. December 2008, 23:27

+1 here too

<---single mom here too

Nicolas Borgsmidt 13. December 2008, 09:38

Thanks girls  There´s no light behind her because it´s dark in the hall behind her. She´s standing in the doorway of her house..I know that much now  I might put up a post later today, so you can see the progress

Kimberly 13. December 2008, 18:07

cool...will watch for it

Nicolas Borgsmidt 15. December 2008, 19:47

Please do Babs. I´ll be ready soon to make a new post about it- I need a certain amount of accuracy at the time being..so I work veeery slow

Babs 15. December 2008, 23:50

Nic, I've subscribed, and have you spotlighted and RSSed. I'll be notified one way or another! Take your time - I'll be doing classwork.

Nicolas Borgsmidt 16. December 2008, 13:31

I´m glad..thankyou

PainterWoman 21. December 2008, 19:09

Nic, I've missed this and the previous post on this painting. I've been sick for the last three weeks...just now 98% better...but still have a stupid nagging cough.

This is going to be very interesting. We really do aproach a painting differently. All artists are alike in some ways but, once we hit the canvas, so very different.

Right now, Yvonne seems rather mysterious and sad in a way. Yet, she is looking directly at you with her arms crossed which makes me think she is proud, strong and accepting of her life.

Nicolas Borgsmidt 22. December 2008, 08:00

Hi Pam. I´m glad you feel better now. I´m sick at the moment too. Fever, snotty head stiff neck and sore thoat. My body feels as if it has had a workover with baseball bats

It´s interesting for me too Pam. I normally don´t aproach a painting this way. It´s very new to me. But it has been a good way to make me go!

Yvonne is a strong woman..no doubt. I want her to be. I´m in a very interesting phase right now, creating a house around her.
I´m about to make a post about it

PainterWoman 22. December 2008, 13:52

Can't wait to see it. My head is much clearer now...not so zombie like.

Over the years, I changed my approach several times. I've now settled into a way that I like. But I agree, changing the approach makes you think in a different way. The one thing I almost always do now is completely cover the white canvas, but picking a different color each time...whatever color I want to show through a bit. I used to always use Venetian Red or Red Oxide but now change the starting color because it forces me to use other colors I might not normally use.

Nicolas Borgsmidt 22. December 2008, 14:25

Ah good for you Pam. My head is defintely not clear at all. Soon my brain have to move out because of all the snot inside the scull :eyes:

It´s so great to hear the way you paint. A lot of colours to begin with scares me a bit. I might end up colourfull but I always start very transparent and careful

Painting like this is completely new to me.
Before I just went to my "creative room" in my mind. Being in there you just have to wait until something comes up! It´s like the religious room inside..when I need to pray, I just enter, without any questions.

Now I try to create outside the creative room...excided to see how it turnes out
