Never heard of it before.

What is that? Something to do with trains?

SqueakeyCat 5. August 2009, 01:54

it is only showing the top portion of the picture for me.

ellinidata 5. August 2009, 01:59

for sanding machines ?

Dacotah 5. August 2009, 02:12

Brake sand is used in NASCAR for cooling brakes.
Guess it works for trains too.

ellinidata 5. August 2009, 02:14

hmm I thought it was for woodwork actually

I like the composition of this photo Nic. It's very abstracted with minimal colors.

Dear All.

As far as i know, brake sand is used to put on the tracks at Copenhagen Central station in order to make the trains stop easier...not sure. The container on the platform has brake sand written on it in danish: Bremsesand. It was a very special golden light at the station when
I took the picture yesterday

SittingFox 6. August 2009, 21:31

Yes, it is a pretty light

nopanic 7. August 2009, 11:09

Yes isn´t it. Thanks Adele

should be illustrating in magazines... or somewhere. good incidental photo... and very interesting as well.

nopanic 8. August 2009, 07:00

Sometimes they use me at work to cover events, Jill. That´s more than enough for me  I like incidents very much. At the moment phtographing helps me to live in the present, get a hold of my thoughts and feelings and makes me move around. Seems to be important
Glad you like the pics. Thankyou.

I was under the impression that the sand was dropped under the tires in order to gain traction to get the train to move; train stops, the sand drips down, then the train tires have something to grip.

Neat shot!

Sounds like a plausible explanation Elly.
Haven´t gone further into it. So I still don´t know for sure
It´s like my paintings. They put up more questions than answers

Thanks!
