It´s never too late to live in the present

Girl with stool

Bought this sculpture about a week ago. It´s not more than the size of a shoe box. I saw it through a window in an old office building attached to the Kronborg Castle. I thought it was a kind of window decoration. I immediately found it very beautiful and interesting. It seemed that some artists from the old shipyard in the harbour area had moved in, in the old office building. I was looking into a studio..an atelier. I went around the building and found an open door with a sign: Welcome, open studios. I went in and met the artist Malene Bjelke.. She had made the sculpture: “Girl with stool”.
I simply had to own it.
Now it is standing on my shelf at home. When I come home I get so happy when I look at it.

Wow.

I would have felt the same way, Nic. Such a provocative piece.

It's so interesting, I can't figure it out. The whole feeling is positive, the girl is looking forward. But why is the stool overturned? Is the girl asking forgiveness? The stool is something so stable.

I'll have to think about this one!

This special feeling you have toward it reminded me of an old movie, "The Object of Beauty" with John Malkovich and Andy MacDowell. When police asked deaf mute Joan (Lolita Davidovich) why did she stole a sculpture she said: "It was talking to me and I could hear it"

I guess she is talking to you

@ Star
Yes, Star. I simply had to own it

@ San
Yes San. This wonder makes you ask wonderful questions, doesn´t it. The thing that I can´t figure it out either, thrills me

@ Darko
You´re so right Darko. She is definately talking to me...every day now. What a wonderful quote you mention!!

I would have bought it, too. Right on the spot.

Nic, The light positioning you have used in the picture brings so much power to the sculpture.

She knocks the stool over and abandons all to face the light...

Her body language is interesting...standing tall..but hands clasped in a semi prayer position.

Last november I was in a swords and martial arts equipment shop in Tokyo and there was one sword talking to me: Buy me, buy me,.....

:D

I saw it live, love it

SittingFox 28. May 2009, 20:27

To me it says that's she's made her mind up about something. She's overturned the comfort of the stool and is striding out into the world.

Its beautiful.

@ Allan
I´m glad you say that Allan. I know you mean it!

@ Sarah
Thanks Sarah. I had to wait until the outside daylight had the right angle and intensity and I used a fixed dolly for the camera as well. But the shot was worth all the work  and you´re right. There´s so many interesting thoughts around her position!

@ Darko.
As long as it doesn´t say...Closer.....cooome closer! :left: :insane:

@ Rune
Indeed you did!

@ Adele
THAT is an interesting interpretation, Adele

@ Shaunak
Yes it sure is
