Flea market

Sometimes the flea markets move from the shops to the harbour. I like when they do that

A student recidence

Yesterday I took a detour on the way home from work, and visited the
student residence Tietgenkollegiet, in the Ørestad district of Copenhagen.

The inner yard

The residence is a form of housing that supports and develops an attractive
environment for living and studying.

Both the community and the individual, are valuated in this building. The
whole architecture seems to support that.

The ground floor is dedicated communal activities with facilities such as a
computer café, assembly hall, work shops, laundry rooms, music rooms,
inside bike storage rooms etc.

The residential storeys each apartment group, consisting of 12 apartments,
shares a large kitchen, communal living room and utility room.

The round building is not found in very many places, and this distinctive
shape is what gives the student-housing facility its characteristic
identity, it sort of embraces the community and its activities.

The building is seven storeys high. Five vertical lines divide the
building, both visually and functionally, into sections and also serve as
continuous passages that provide access from outside to the central
courtyard and to the different storeys.

All rooms face the façade and have a view of the surroundings. The common
kitchens/auxiliary rooms, lounges, and terraces are located on the central
court, bringing residents together.

Gemini Residence

As promised I´ll keep on writing about my fascination about the converted seed silo in the part of the Southern Harbour, called Havnestad at Islands Brygge, Copehagen.
My research came up with more facts now….

Photo: NCC /Nybolig . Real Estate.
The building consists of 84 owner-occupied dwellings of approx. 90-200 sq.m . It´s 39 metres high and has 8 stories
To my surprise the architect firm that made the drawings for the building is a dutch one!
The engineers are Danish though, the contractor as well.
The building period was from october 2003 to april 2005
163million Danish crowns was the complete prize for the building in 2005
Today a two-roomed 90 sq.m residence cost around 3 million Danish Crowns (app 600.000 US dollars)
The conversion of the Seed Silo is a part of a building policy, decided by the municipal authrithies, where former industrial buildings, in the Port of Copenhagen, are converted to make homes. As far as I know, all the buildings at the old Soya Bean Cake Factory have been used for that purpose.

The Seed Silo consisted of two raw, naked concrete cylinders 25 metres in diameter. It must have been a rough job to penetrate the concrete rings in order to make door openings.I really think the architechts have preserved the authenticity of the silo at the same time as fulfilled the desire for innovation. .
To me it seems, by keeping the directions of the buildings in the area, the changes in the infrastructure is down to a minimum.

Recycled Silo

Gemini Residence is a recidential property situated at Islands Brygge, Copenhagen.
The area is a former industrial harbor area.
The twin building is a 42 metres high rebuild grain and seed silo belonging to Dansk Sojakagefabrik. (Danish Soy cake factory)

Photo: Claus Bundgaard

The twin silo is originally erected in 1963, but was in 2003-2005 rebuilt into 84 appartment units attached to the twin silo, and made the complete building look like the number 8, seen from above. The hollow core were were maintained for a big welcome hall, stairs and elevators.

Wroom

Found this row of beauties at the harbour

These are Volvo Sportscars
The model is called P1800
The beige one nearest the camera looks very much like the same type wich was used in the series from TV, called "The Saint". with Roger Moore as the main carachter . It was in the 60´ies

The North Harbour

On my way home, the last couple of days, I´ve spent a lot of time on the bike. The warmth and the light really urges me to bike around. It becomes like a meditative mental humming. Very peacefull.
Distant warehouse fire
I never planned to explore the Nothern Harbour of Copenhagen, but some days ago a lot of smoke drew my attention. A distant fire. Had to go into the area and check it out

Found out that the fire wasn´t directly inside the harbour area, but quite far away. You could feel and smell the smoke though.

I learned later..through the news channels that it was a ware house fire about 10 kilometres from the harbour. The smoke really had travelled some distance! really itchy and powerful it was...and very spectacular too

The Crown Princess
The day after I saw this colosal cruise ship

It´s the biggest I´ve seen so far. Quite hard to get a distance to it in order to get the whole hull inside the camera frame

It´s called Crown Princess, and I found these data on the internet:

On the road again

SCREEEEEEEEEECH...had to stop the old iron horse to take this pic. It´s the end of the world! Never know what´s around the next corner.
My bike is in top shape now. It´s got new ball bearings, greased axels, tightened cycle chain, and adjusted the gears...it goes like a dream now. I´m on the roads again exploring my world. It´s too hot and too much light outside, to stay inside to paint. Have to move that activity to late in the evenings. The panniers are stuffed with camera, supplies, coffee, drawing pad, writing tools, rain clothes...you name it...I`M FREE
