With one strand of yarn, sew 2 halves of the heart shape together. Fill with fibre fill before closing off. Fasten off. Repeat till you have all seven heart shape pieces. Join all hearts at the middle of each side of hearts till you have them in a circle. Sew embellishments to center of each heart. Make a small chain for hanging. You may want to add something to the back side to make it more “circular” like wire etc. I didn’t use anything, but it’s up to you.

Coffee or Tea Mug Cozie in Single Chain

I thought I would make a cozie in single chain to fit tighter around my mugs. I have some in double chain and they “slacken” after a while and with washing. I used snaps for this one, but you can use buttons or Velcro. I love using variegated yarn but you can use the color of your choice. You can make it with 2 bands or just one.
Let me know if you need help with the pattern. [tetley_56@yahoo.com]
Top 2 photos are the finished cozie, the next is of it on a different mug for sizing, the next is of the snap placement then the type of snap I used and type of Velcro you can use.

Skill: easy
Size: fits any size mug (finished cozie is about 3 ½ inches tall, 3 inches wide using both bands. It measures 3 inches tall if using only one band.)

Materials:
-Benat Satin, 80 gm. /28.oz, 1 ball “Luxury Ombre” (or color of choice)
-5mm size hook
-Snaps: 2 sm: 3-¼ inch and 2 bigger: 3- ½ inch
-Or buttons (if using buttons, you will need 2 small and 2 bigger ones and will need to make button loops. See below)
-Or you can use Velcro to fasten bands
-Yarn needle or size for snaps, buttons or Velcro
-Thread to match yarn
-Embellishments if desired

Instructions:
Chain 2
Rd 1: 6 sc in second ch from hook, join with sl, ch 1
Rd 2: ch 1, 2 sc in ea sc around. Sl st in first sc, to join.
Rd 3: ch 1, sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc around. Sl st in first sc, to join.
Rd 4: ch 1, sc in ea of next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc around. Sl st in first sc, to join.
Rd 5: ch 1, sc in ea of next 2 sc, 3 sc in next sc around. Sl st in first sc, to join.
Rd 6: ch 1, sc in ea of next 2 sc, 4 sc in next sc around. Sl st in first sc, to join.
Rd 7: ch 1, sc in ea of next 2 sc, 5 sc in next sc around. Sl st in first sc, to join.
Rd 8: ch 1, sc in BACK LOOPS ONLY
Rds 9-10: CH 1, sc in BOTH LOOPS and from now on.
Rds 11-13: ch 1, sc in ea ch and skip last 2chs, ch 1 and turn.
Rd 14: (end of rd 13) ch 11 (making a tail) sc in sc ch and ea ch to end, ch 1 and turn (this starts the band for under handle of mug)
Rds 15 – 20: sc in sc ch and ea ch to end, ch 1 and turn. (This should be 2 inches long)
Rd 21-22: sc in 38 sc, ch 1 and turn (You can end here with just the one band or you can go over the mug handle for more warmth.)
I finishing here, make a chain long enough to fit over buttons when sewn to body of cozie. Make into a loop and sew to end of band.
Rd 23: ch 11, sc in sc ch and ea ch to end, (this starts the band for over handle of mug) ch 1 and turn
Rd 24: sc in second ch from hook and sc in ea ch to end. Fasten off. (This should be 2 inches long)
If using buttons, see instructions below.

Finishing:
Using snaps:
-Put cozie over mug, pull small band to where you want to sew one small snap to end of upper band and mark with pin or st marker. Sew bottom piece of snap to body of cozie, and top piece of snap to end of band. With both parts of snap closed, mark place on band were to sew next snap. Sew bottom of next small snap to the edge of the body of the cozie and then the other piece of snap to where you marked.
-Repeat for bigger snaps on the bigger band under the handle.
Remember you will only need to sew the snaps at the end of the band to the marked places on the cozie body, and not the beginning of the band as with the upper band. (If this makes sense)

Using buttons:
-Put cozie over mug, pull small band to where you want and sew one small button.
-Repeat for bigger mug, using 2 bigger buttons.
- Make a chain long enough to loop over button and sew to end of band.
-Repeat for bigger buttons, but sew loop to bottom edge of band. (Make 2 loops, one for each button.)

Using Velcro:
-Put cozie over mug; pull bands to where you want for tightness and mark. Sew bottom piece of Velcro to the body of cozie for both top and bottom bands. Sew top of Velcro to underside of bands.
-You may sew a button to the small band instead of Velcro if you can’t find a piece small enough.

-Now you can embellish with anything you like or just leave plain.

Janine and Alan’s Christmas Stockings!

I made these for my kids in 1990. They still use them! The small bags were made to hold Loonies and Toonies!
This is more of a guide than a pattern.

Size: 10” wide, 14” tall, cuff is 3 ½” wide

Materials:
2 balls of worsted weight yarn in red 50 gm yarn, 2 balls green 50 gm yarn, 1 ball white 50 gm yarn
Hook size: 4.5 mm

Note: Make on in red with a green cuff and one in green with a red cuff. Both are trimmed in white and lettering is done in white. Make a braid of all three colors for the hanger loop. Work in dc. Use opposite colours for letters. Be creative with your decorations!

Crocheted Sporran

For Halloween I wanted to wear my Grandpa’s Kilt and go as a Highlander. I couldn’t find his Sporran so I made one. You can even use it as a purse! The pic is of me at work on Halloween in my Grandpa’s Kilt, garters/flashes and a Tam with “fake” hair that matched the Kilt!

Measurements: Overall size is 7 inches wide by 9 inches long.
Back and flap=14 inches by 7 inches.
Front= 7 inches by 7 inches.

Materials: 5mm hook, 3 x 50gm balls of worsted weight yarn, chain (measure your waist and subtract the width of the top of the folded edge) or you can make a belt with yarn or use a regular belt or chain (I used a dog chain for mine and cut the handle off.) and a button or snap for closer, and a yarn needle.

Front:
Chain 4, 5 double crochet in the 4th chain from the hook.
Row 2: ch 2 (counts as first dc), turn, dc in first dc, 2 dc in ea of the next 5 dc. (12 dc in this row)
Row 3: ch 2 (counts as first dc), turn, 2 dc in next dc, (dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc) 5 times. (18 dc in this row)
Row 4: ch 2 (counts as first dc), turn, dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc, (dc in ea of the next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc) 5 times. (24 dc in this row)
Rows 5 &6: repeat row 4, adding 1 dc extra in ea row. Ch1 and turn at end of row 6.(my half circle didn’t turn out even, so I added the following rows, and you may need to add rows to get the right height as well)
Rows 7 to 13: This you will be crocheting across the top and in sc.
Sc all round, fasten off.

Back and flap (made in one piece):
Ch 30, 1 dc in 4th st from hook, 1 dc in next 26 sts (28 dc) ch 1, 4 sc over last dc, ch 1, 1 sc in space after each dc on other side (26 sc) ch 1, 4 sc over 3 ch, ch 1, 1 sc between each dc on other side (26 sc).
Row 2: Ch 2, 1 dc in ch 1, 2 dc in each of 4 sc, 2 dc in ch 1 (12 dc on end), 1 dc in each of next 27 sc, 2 dc in ch 1, 2 dc in each of 4 sc, 2 dc in ch 1, 1 dc in each sc on other side (26 dc) sl st to ch-3.
Row 3: Ch 2. 1 dc in next 2 sps, ** 2 dc in next sp, 1 dc in next sp * repeat from ** 4 times, (18 dc on end), 1 dc in next 27 sps ** repeat between ** and sl st to ch-3.
Row 4: Ch 2, 1 dc in next 3 sps, ** 2 dc in next sp. 1 dc in next 2 sps * repeat from ** 4 times, (24 dc on end), 1 dc in next 27 sps ** repeat from ** and sl st to ch-2.
Rows 5 to 6: Continue in the same manner, adding 6 dc on the ends in each row, having the 2 dc over 2 dc of previous row and sl st to ch-3.

Edge: 1 sc in each dc around. Fasten off.

Finishing:
Place the front piece on the bottom of the wrong side of oval back piece and sew in place.

Tassels: (Make three)
The easiest way I’ve found to make tassels is to wrap yarn around your fingers. Don’t wrap too tight as you have to insert a strand of yarn between your fingers and tie off the loops. Wrap yarn around your fingers 19 times. Then cut a 6 inch length of yarn and slip it between your fingers and the wrapped yarn. Slip yarn off of fingers and tie. Cut another 10 inch length of yarn and wrap around both thicknesses about ½ inch down from top. Wrap around three times, tie in a knot, leaving ends as long as the tassel and feed down through the center using a hook or a needle. Cut the bottom loops and fluff.

Attaching the Tassels:
Lay out the tassels on the front piece, with the two outside ones slightly shorter than the middle one. Use hook or yarn needle to sew the long end thread to the front piece.

Finishing:
Sew the button or snap to the front piece.

Belt or Chain:
“The sporran is typically suspended from a sporran belt which is a narrow belt (separate from the kilt belt) made of leather or chain. This sporran belt is sometimes run through a pair of small loops provided for that purpose on the back of the kilt. Occasionally the sporran is suspended from special leather belt loops which enable the sporran to be hung directly from the kilt belt. This is often done when a chain is used as the chain might otherwise chafe the kilt.”

Tab for the chain or belt: (these instructions are for a chain. If you use a belt, make the tab a little wider than the belt)
You will be making a long narrow tab for the chain to slip thru to hold the Sporran.
-ch 6, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each sc across, ch 1 and turn.
Rounds 1-25: sc in each sc across, chain 1 and turn.
At end of round 25: DO NOT FASTEN OFF. Sc all around the tab edge and fasten off.

-To attach the tab: pin to back of Sporran where the flap starts. Sew top of tab all across and fasten off. Repeat for the bottom of tab. Fasten off and insert chain through the tab and you are done!!!

Been gone a while!

I haven't had the time to add any more patterns this past year. I had 2 knee operations last year, one of which was a total knee replacement. I'm on the mend ad will try to post more soon. I'm still working on the Man's sweater I started to write out. I missed out a lot when I first made it years ago and I'm having trouble reading my writing! I'll post it when I get it done. TTFN

Easy Plastic Ear Muff cover

idea
A few years ago (actually 1991), I covered the plastic headband on ear muffs as they hurt my kids heads. (they are 22 and 28 now!)

I used worsted weight yarn (the kids picked the color) and a size G (4.00 mm) hook.

I just measured the length of the band when extended fully from one muff to the other, crocheted a chain that amount I single crochet, and then made it wide enough to fit over when folded. I then sc it together, leaving a tail of yarn long enough to fasten to the earmuff through the grommets. You can also whipstitch the 2 edges together with a large blunt needle.

They never complained again! up

Crochet Pockets, Cuffs and Collars for Jackets

I made pockets and cuffs for these 5 jackets in 2001. They are really easy to do. I don’t like padded shoulders and cut them out. I’ve saved them and used them to make pockets. On others I have just made squares of single chain. These you can make any size. I also made a collar for one that didn’t have one. up

Materials:
Shoulder pads of matching or contrasting color to the jacket.
Matching or contrasting colored yarn
Yarn needle
Size G (6 US) or size to obtain gauge

For pockets:
With one shoulder pad, attach yarn and blanket stitch from top right and to end. DO NOT FASTEN OFF.
Rnd 1: sc in each of the stitches to end. Ch 1 and turn.
Rnd 2: 1 sc in each sc of previous rnd. Ch 1 and turn.
Repeat rnd 2 to desired depth of pocket. Fasten off
(I usually crocheted about 1 & ½ to 2 inches on my pads.)

Finishing:
Measure each side of jacket, about 1&1/2 inches away from the edge, and about 2 inches from bottom of jacket and pin in place. Using the yarn needle, sew in place. Repeat for other pocket.

For cuffs:
If you’re like me and have cuffs that are too long, this was my solution.
Attach yarn and blanket stitch all round the cuff. DO NOT FASTEN OFF.
Rnd 1: sc all around the cuff. Ch 1 and turn
Rnd 2: 1 sc in each sc of previous rnd. Ch 1 and turn.
Repeat rnd 2 to desired width or you can get fancy and make a ruffle using groups of shell stitches.

Shell stitch:
In one stitch, * 4 trc, sc in next 2 sc, repeat from* around to the end. Sl st. and fasten off. Weave in all ends.

For Collars:
Stitches used:sc, and alternating sc and dc. SEE PHOTO.

Notes: Measure inside of collar on jacket. This will guide you as to how many stitches needed for base row.

Attach yarn and blanket stitch all round the top edge of jacket. DO NOT FASTEN OFF.
Rnd 1: sc all around the cuff. Ch 2 and turn.
Rnd 2: * 1 sc in 1st sc, 1 dc in the next dc* repeat from * to end. Ch 1 and turn.
Continue to work this pattern evenly until it measures 3 inches or desired width. Sc all around edge and fasten off.

These last 2 pics are of the collar and cuffs I recently did for my blue coat. I've wanted to do this for a while now, and just did it now! smile

I tacked down the collar with 2 snow flake buttons, and the dog one is a pin I made of a Westie, the dog I got for Christmas from my Brother! coffee

I hope you can follow this. sherlock

Gag or Joke Bra !!!

I made this bra as a joke Christmas gift for one of our delivery guys at work. He loved it and even put it on!! For his birthday I made him a Thong. He loved that too!!! He has such a good humour. This is really a guide because you can alter it to fit who you want. Have fun!! lol

MATERIALS:
Red Heart Soft (or any Super Soft) 4ply yarn 1 ball green, 2 small colored fuzzy pom-poms, and I added “Merry Christmas” tape, but you can use what you like, like tassels!!

“Cups” [make 2]
Rnd 1...ch 4, 7dcs in 4th ch from hook, join, do not turn.
Rnd 2...ch 2, dc in joining, (dc in next st, 2dcs in next st) 3 times, dc in last, join, do not turn.
Rnd 3...ch 2, dc in joining, (dc in next 2sts, 2dcs in next st) 3 times, dc to end, join, do not turn.
Rnd 4...ch 2, dc in joining, (dc in next 3sts, 2dcs in next st) 3 times, dc to end, join, do not turn.
Fasten off.
[Note: you can make these as big as you want by adding more rounds]

Strap between cups [make 1]
Rnd 1: ch 6, sc in 5th sc from hook and in next 4 sc to end. Ch 1 and turn.
Rnd 2: sc in ea sc across, ch 1 and turn.
It’s up to you if you want more rounds between your cups, when wide enough, fasten off.

Side and Back Straps [make 2]
Again, this will depend on how “big” you want to make your bra. As you can see in the pics, my model isn’t small. Measure [if you can] the size you want to make and make a chin long enough to fit and be tied in the back. I made mine with 2 rows of sc.

Shoulder Straps [make 2]
Use 2 – 3 rows of sc long enough when fastened to cup will meet with the back straps.

Finishing
Attach the middle strap to both cups. Attach the side straps to the side of each cup. Attach the shoulder straps to the middle of each cup and to the back strap. Sew the pom-poms or tassels and the tape to the tips and top of the cups. [See pictures]

Have fun!!!
lol

My Canada Day Hat

I wanted to do something different for Canada Day so I decided to make a hat that looked like the Canadian Flag. I’ve never used a graph pattern before, so I hope you can follow my instructions.

Size:Pattern is done for an adult. You can make smaller using thinner yarn or hook to fit a child.

Materials:
Use hook size 6.00 mm
1 x 100 gm ball of Bernat Satin Acrylic worsted weight yarn in “Snow” and 1 in “Crimson”
Buttons etc for decoration.
Plastic canvas for the brim

Note:Using the Canadian Flag Graph from “planetshoup.com”, turn graph up-side-down as you will be making the hat from the top down. You will only need the white part and the leaf part of the graph as the rest will be red all round the sides. This part is 21 stitches wide and is 21 rows in length. The Crown is done in white. When changing colors, carry yarn and crochet over all round. This hat is crocheted in rounds and in single crochet.
