My Crocheted Brimmed Hat

Hi,
I need help with this pattern. After round 16 how many sc should there be? And on round 29 what is a long ch? Or should it be a long DC? Also I have already started the hat and have gotten to round 29 and am having trouble interpreting the round and also the hat seems to be way to big. What am I doing wrong? I'm using the correct size hook and following the pattern to a "T". Please help! Thanks, Tammy

I am having the same problem as Tammy K. Morris. I am using the correct hook but my hat is way too big.

Each round needs to be closed with a slip stitch and the next round started with a single chain, otherwise you're just going in an ever increasing outward spiral. The author of this pattern should have included these 2 very critical steps as a lot of beginners are not going to know to do this. This pattern says its easy, and therefore appealing to beginners like myself. An experienced crocheter would probably know this but I didn't. I got 20+ rounds completed before realizing something was wrong and unraveling my work. . .TWICE!! Very frustrating!!!! And a HUGE waste of time. I think the hat is just as cute as can be and really want to make it but I think a lot of people, beginners especially, will get frustrated and quit because of this one simple step being omitted from the instructions.
