Sounds Of Champaign ( Side 2 )

past vinyls and present music established since 2005

Groupement Culturel Renault - Cadences

R(e)volution inside this 7 inch. A back contest from the french 70’s and a killing joke for each person who understands French ! But not a bad taste of sounds, because there is more music revealed here than that you can suspect … killer breaks & a heavy milky bassline for terribly current words. Then again, a record left from nowhere to land between your two ears ! That was the french post-modern revolution … 33 years ago !

Sorry about Side A, my best take among others, a scratch that i’ve to hide as i can, not easy, sounds like a « hip-hop » reverse at that time ! Not in my intentions, but Side B is safe from meany earlier listen, God Thanks !

Hope you enjoy it, despite the bad vinyl quality !

Paroles terriblement actuelles ! ! !

Jack Shaindlin - Stereo Themes & Signatures / New Signatures Closings (Stingers) (1970)

Many Thanks to Laurent B. providing me this awesome LP, found in the streets from Paris on the « trottoir »… A forgotten library record, near from death, but alive again here. A great bit of swinging american grooves with titles like « Movie Matinee », « Film Fun », and of course the big « Crazy Show ». The B Side features more short tracks. Have a lot more because Laurent is a great founder & recorder assistant ! ! Sorry about the missing main LP cover, a little bit too wet after the rain ! maybe in the future after some infos …

Here are some reuploads requested by some people. I’ve tried to be regular but seems to be more difficult this last year. I’M NOT MOTIVATED ! My thoughts are really elsewhere than the World ‘Wild’ Web ! It seems that some facts are more important than … blogging. Difficulties … to live in this country which I like less and less … What a VILLAGE ! Don’t mind … just enjoy the perfume of the day, here, in the comments section.

Uele Kalabubu et sa Tribu - Afroground (1968)

I RATE YOU THIS EXCELLENT vinyl LP that was provided to me by my friend Greg. An awesome taste and flavour of african grooves, a pure afro-exotica trip ! They seems to come from Congo or Gabon, but i’m not sure reading the LP label. Few, very few infos to find around the web. A fantastic hypnotic track like ‘Afro-Disiac’ is avalaible on the Pulp Flavor sampler « La Guêpe - volume 2 », "Matata" sounds fantastic too. I’m not pretty sure about the 1968 dating. But seems to have any connection with Garcia Morales, Ralph Benatar & Tony Perdone, all belgian guys ( ?) and involved, for some, in ‘El Chicles’ and in different records label like Blue Elephant, Biram (this one), RKM or Topkapi. Just for fun, i listened to this record with an added reverb effect and enhanced bass on my main PC, and it sounds pretty good like african new-wave ! ! I rate you to use a real Hi-Fi system to obtain the best result. So, here are 2 zip files, the original & the ‘enhanced’ version. Enjoy this experience !

The Very Best Of John Barry

So, back again with another original LP by John Barry. This one, on Polydor, is one of the most significant Barry’s own work released during the 70’s. This compilation features titles reinterpreted by John Barry himself. Some tracks like « We Have All The Time In The World », « Diamonds Are Forever », « A Doll’s House », « The Adventurer » and « Midnight Cowboy » were reissued on the Lounge Legends series (Universal Germany). The James Bond themes sounds more dynamic, drummy and pop oriented than the original movie soundtracks,. « Strip Drive » (from the rare 1976 « Americans » LP) sounds pretty jazzy with a taste of Schifrin’s groove. A real good alternative to discover John Barry for the first time.

Various Artists - Champaign A Go-Go volume 1

So here it is, my first home made LP & 7’’ compilation. I was so lazy the last months … But i enjoyed to record these tracks this last days before to going south … A short explanation … The first track from Alain Goraguer is taken from the 1970 original movie « Sur Un Arbre Perché » featuring Louis De Funes & Geraldine Chaplin, a brilliant psyché-pop sound collage, unfortunately this score was never released (just one track or two on a comp). I’ve included François de Roubaix Répétion - from « L’Homme Orchestre » - because the original movie version sounds more powerfull & dynamic than the official score reissue, includes also original Louis De Funes dialogues ! « Voyages » by Michel Polnareff is amazing, between choruses with additional grooves. Luckily this title was reissued with, of course, a better sound than my original LP. Bernard Estardy’s « Super Angoisse » & Hervé Roy’s « Pop Vibes » - Telemusic 5 & 10 - features brilliant drums & melodies. I bought over 3 years a double LP « Bandes Sonores Originales Des Grands Films Français », a fantastic found with these two titles by Jacques Brel + François Rauber and Philippe Sarde. « Patrick Jerk » by Les Pros, from the Boum Bomo singles collection, this was unknown to me until whoops let me it to discover… Variations N°3 is a pure french 70’s rock experience & Resonance sounds more disco feel. Amazing too is the cover « 2001, L’Odyssée de l’Espace » (2001 Space Odissey) played by Christopher John & His Orchestra, funky groovy at hell ! 2 Quiet songs and easy pleasures are « Je t’aime … moi non plus » by Paul Mauriat & « From Here To Eternity » by Engelbert Humperdinck, this last one was sampled by Kinobe on their title « Slip into something more confortable », so here is the original Decca issue. And of course, a recursive theme & fave of mine, but sounds quiet different, more « poppy » in the background. This is « Sans Mobile Apparent » played by the Filmstudio Orchestra Di Roma and directed by Massino Campigli. And finally, a TERRIFIC groovy introduction to « A Flavour of the New Avengers ». I’m so pretty curious about all library tracks used in the New Avengers TV series. I’m searching since years all the credits used along the entire series. I never found any information ! I’ve just one idea, to buy the complete DVD set and extract any incidental music … Ho, before i forget. All tracks are running with their originals sleeve covers in Itune & Windows Media Player 9, cause i bought a new computer with … Windows XP ! ! Until now i was under Windows 98 ! ! Oldies but Goodies … So, next week, i’ll drive to the south. Searching about the missing sun … Holidays ! ! ! ! ! ! !

Joe Berluck & His Erotic Voice : Interview

Last summer, i did a post about Joe Berluck’s LP. Something very special to hear and to feel ! He came through Sounds Of Champaign (Side-2) and stopped by, the time to gave us an exclusive interview. There are so many easy-compilation on the market today, i wonder why nobody thought about Joe Berluck’s songs. It’s a miss…
So, here is the following interview…

1- Hello Mr. Berluck, thank you to be with us and to allow this interview for Sounds Of Champaign (Side-2). Can you tell us which was your musical course ?

I was the first DJ in Europe, I mean who worked with a Transportable Disco-Bar (year 1962).

2- Who are the musicians accompanying you for your album "The Erotic Voice Of Joe Berluck", how did the recording occur and are you still in contact with them nowadays ?

They where studio musicians, after the music was made, I put my voice on it.

3- Had you affinities with other artists of the Palette label on which you were in 1970 ?

Yes, Will Tura and others.

4- For which kind or style of music have you a preference, what are you listen to at the moment. Also have you a vinyl collection ?

No, in 1971 my place whent in flames and I lost 43.000 singles and LP’s. The music i prefer, all kinds of music if it is good but I have a little more preference for romantic style.

5- You were also DJ for a show which was aired on radio RTL at the time (if I’m not wrong). What kind of souvenirs ?

I did the Record Beat Show from Radio Luxemburg in Belgium – Holland – Germany and as a DJ I went all over Europe.

6- On which LP or Single can we find your cover from "My Way", and "It’s Been a Long, Long Time", (a duo with a splendid orchestration & beautiful vibes) ?

"My Way" is on the LP Mfp (member of EMI) AM026-97072 and "It’s been … " is a single Palette 2021028.

7- The covers of your LP’s & Singles are a "treat" for the amateurs who we are ! Is it you who thought of this "girl-concept" or it was suggested to you? Did you know this woman on the main cover of your LP ?

It was suggested and i never saw those women.

8- How was your relationship with producer Roland Kluger? Was this a common will to work together ?

I only saw him once.

9- What are your projects at the present time and how to have any access to your music nowadays ?

The compilation i send you if i find someone to bring it out because I don’t have the money to do it.

10- What did you think of blogs and websites which propose unreissued vinyls for free download (like yours!) but are also outlaws opposite the record labels & the right-owners (like you ! !) ?

What can I do, I never received a penny and now i see that some websites asked 66$ for a single of Joe Berluck !

Thank you very much Mr. Joe Berluck to have agreed to answer these questions, as well as your kindness.

P.S oh, what is the title from track 15 on the CD, because it's not credited, seems to be a very nice christmas song !

That’s my best one, it is "White Christmas" and "Silent Night" also on a single "Palette 2021-032".

Greetings and who knows… Maybe we will see us in France or elsewhere,
Also greetings for all your members,

Joe
