George Benson - White Rabbit

Very cool tunes to hear here on this CTI labelled LP. Quiet and Mood are mainly all tracks, with a great taste of spanish flavors and latino-jazz influences. Already great arrangements too, no wonder, it’s due to the top quality work of Don Sebesky. I was really surprised as i listened to « El Mar » and his main guitar riff. You can recognize a part of …And you, you know ? I give you a clue, « A Grand Love Story » by…

« …For Bensons second CTI project, producer Creed Taylor and arranger Don Sebesky successfully place the guitarist in a Spanish-flavored setting full of flamenco flourishes, brass fanfares, moody woodwinds, and such. The idea works best on "California Dreamin'" (whose chords are based on Andalusian harmonies), where, driven by Jay Berliner's exciting Spanish rhythm guitar, Benson comes through with some terrifically inspired playing. On "El Mar," Berliner is replaced by Benson's protégé Earl Klugh (then only 17) in an inauspicious -- though at the time, widely heralded -- recorded debut. The title track is another winner, marred only by the out-of-tune brasses at the close, and in a good example of the CTI classical/jazz formula at work, Heitor Villa-Lobos' "Little Train of the Caipira" is given an attractive early-'70s facelift. Herbie Hancock gets plenty of nimble solo space on Rhodes electric piano, Airto Moreira contributes percussion and atmospheric wordless vocals, and Ron Carter and Billy Cobham complete the high-energy rhythm section. In this prime sample of the CTI idiom, everyone wins. [There is also a Japenese version.] … » © Richard S. Ginell, All Music Guide

Almeria.

Oh yeah, nice one #6! Hope the article won't screw up things...

number06 12. June 2006, 09:00

Sorry for english native speaking people about my comment ; but try a translator, copy & past and then you’ll understand the mainlines of this topic…

Bonjour Chez Vous !

Thanks, love this CTI stuff. A couple of my favorites are Freddie Hubbard's "Sky Dive" and Milt Jackson's "Olinga".

I also really appreciate the way you did the post with the artwork and credits.

Thanks for all the great music. Just a question as well...daily we look for the second and third installment of The Prisoner Music (thank you for the first one)
BTW.. the ending of the tv show and it's everlasting question?
In the last scenes when the butler enters the house... look at the door..it opens like a door in the Village...is he free?
The last piece of music when they escape and travel in the truck and arrive in London is just so brilliant..
Thanks a million again for your efforts...appreciated by the silent majority:)

number06 13. June 2006, 13:31

Thanks number (?)

But, so far i can remember, until now i’ve not posted any music from the village ( from « the prisoner » TV series)…Yeah, i know, somewhere a shame and a kinda of mistake from number 6 ! Just to wait about a special homemade compilation (including tracks from the remastered prisoner files #1, #2 and #3 cd’s that came out on silva screen in 2002) and coming soon on Side-C (meanwhile i hope so)… Look over here, at X-Y-Z Cosmonaut’s CosmoBlog for the 1989 original issue…

http://my.opera.com/xyzcosmonaut/blog/show.dml/265908

Questions are a burden to others, answers a prison for oneself , a recurrent theme by the prisoner…As you know ; Earth IS the « global » village, this is why at the end, it begins again ! There is always something to think and to say about this series 39 years later, amazing, isn’t it ?

#06: Thanks for this. Once he started singing, I stopped listening, still, never took a chance on much, although a great guitar player.
Cheers from the US! Muse

Hi Audio-History;

Thanks for the comment, yes, somewhere i think it's more "easy" to appreciate the instrumentals part of this LP (personally i'm more involved in that kind of listen). But it's not only George Benson, there is a lot of good musicians beside him ! Anyway, nobody found who has taken the guitar riff on "El Mar" for his "A Grand Love Story" album ? It's just a quizz! Cheers!

Also if it wasn't him I'd definitely like to know who it was.
Nice blog by the way, just recently found it and it has had some great stuff.

number06 16. June 2006, 06:23

Bravo ! Congrats Anonymous...You're the first one, alright, the main guitar riff on "El Mar" was reproduced (not sampled) for a track (i don't remember precisely which one) on "A Grand Love Story" album by Kid Loco. Compare...It's true!

Thanks Anonymous for this info. It’s the first time that happened to me…since i’ve began SOC. Who is responsible of this complaint ? I saw by others, that stolen links finded again on other sites, are then forbidden…

doesn't matter, i’ll re-upload this again soon as possible.

Ok ! I know now why...after some research on google with the original link, i came on 'empeethreeindex'. So He's responsible of the stolen link. Not fairplay from this guy, and this is the reason maybe that his "blog" is supervised ?!
