oedipus' online complexes

a compendium of truth which is stranger than fiction

the most depressing day?

, , ,

according to British psychologist Doctor Cliff Arnall, a psychologist in the Department of Lifelong Learning at Cardiff University, Wales, january 24 is the most depressing day of the year... doctor arnall, who specializes in seasonal disorders. derived this date from a formula he created that takes into account numerous feelings to devise peoples' lowest point... the model is:

[W + (D-d)] x TQ / M x NA

the equation is broken down into seven variables: (W) weather, (D) debt, (d) monthly salary, (T) time since Christmas, (Q) time since failed quit attempt, (M) low motivational levels and (NA) the need to take action.

january 24 also happens to be the anniversary of the first sale of beer in a can, in 1935, by the Krueger Brewing Company, but i'm still not sure which way that tilts the equation...

thanks, henry -- i only wish that more of my blogsplats made it off my thumb drive and up on my.opera! as you may have noticed, my blog hasn't had an entry since last year, although i have a backlog of half-to-three quarters finished entries... your feedback, however, may be the tipping point, and i hope it will inspire me to start blogging regularly again -- i also hope that by universal law, all days be 36 hours long (so then i could at least get a good 5 to 6 hours sleep a day!)

Hello oedipus its Henry, i hope all is well in your neck of the woods today. I am speaking to you from New Zealand, it is winter down here and cold yet refreshing like your blogsplats, chuckle chuckle. with this in mind it seemd totally appropriate to read, the tipping point? dated October last year and by the way, your titles are superb. They make for compelling reading. I am wondering what the statistics are a year, almost, down the track, i fear both will have exploded somewhat and the planet is indeed starting to topple. We New Zealanders are already upside down, so we will be well prepared for a seismic shift haha hehe. I will return to comment on more of your tasty post biscuits individually, as they are lovely gems each and every one. The unfinished entries you speak of, are something for me to look forward to also, and trust you may feel inspired soon. I have played drums and various assortments of percussive oddities from the age of 14 and now at 40ish i am working with beats and vocal arrangements, together with some acoustic guitar arrangements, they're coming along, its all good.
Roots is a favourite of mine, as is Dub. Any chance i can get to give length to sound and rhythm i'm in. A huge fan of African Head charge as i am of most rocksteady, especaially early work.
You mention on your about page, Heliotrope, i'm going to try and find me some of that on vinyl. I'll let you know how i get on.
I notice Espen and JavaWoman on your friends list, they are both online friends of mine, if you would like to hook up, it's all good by me, just say the word, i would be honoured, absolutely. I'll head off now as my daughters 17 and 13 have stomachs rumbling for dinner.
I'm as smitten as a cheshire cat to meet you Oedipus and thanks for being here i'll talk with you soon.
Take care now,
Henry.
