20 Oct - Oldephartte on Iraq

It's a shame I don't spontaneously expound on my observations the way many do : that's what I'm told, anyway. So what do I blather on about in comments ? #40
While Coalition Forces search
And no, I wouldn't bother if I didn't think the article and thread weren't worthy of note.
Usually I'm too lazy to retype what I've said : it takes time away from finding new items of interest.

When you do most things, it is possible to evaluate your success. In Iraq, certainly the Baathist government fell quickly.
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED
I didn't post the sign.
Most discussions about Iraq fail to mention two basic points (1) the cost to Iraqis (2) the bases whose construction was supposedly blocked by conditions attached to budget authorization.
Out of a nation of 29 million at the time of an occupation launched without known preparation,
Iraqi Death Estimator
That should be considered well beyond an appalling unacceptable cost. The UN estimates of Iraqis displaced from their homes is 4 million : continuing homeless 2 million.
Troops back from Iraq refer to 'the Toilet'. Conditions ripe for disease are considered unavoidable sabotage. Think about it : fresh water fouled, toilets unavailable, food, heat and shelter at a premium.
Those are the basic necessities of life.
Accidental ? The programs for rebuilding were trash ; the contracts unsupervised. And then there's this The Secret Behind the Sanctions
Well, this is running on for a comment. I've posted lots more Points to Ponder on my Links page. But, for anyone who wants to contend that these things were unforseeable complications - you do remember 16 American intelligence agencies reported invasion of Iraq would increase terrorism in the NIE submitted before the act I trust - explain the likes of this
Post-Saddam Iraq
Do I think the U.S. should continue in Iraq ?
Shouldn't I judge by past performance ?

This presidential election is billed as very important. Both candidates plan on continued American presence in Iraq and increased 'initiatives' in Afghanistan. I guess I should be grateful Obama isn't plugging spurious concerns about Iran ( while Israel's atrocities in Palestine show no sign of drying up U.S. gifts of military materiel ), an act sure to further agitate Russia, which has actual ( {unlike say, Iran } not theoretically possible in 10 years if they're lying about their interest; despite the NIE saying they have no nuclear weapons program ) ICBMs with MIRVs.
I still remember bomb shelters and school drills getting the kids under desks so as to know the proper drill for 'Kissing Your Ass Goodbye'.
Bombs away.
