The menace of the Opera

Silverlight the new flash killer?

, , , , ,

Oki so flash is evil we all know that, and now Microsoft will pollute us even more with a new flashy thing:

Why can't people just use svg+canvas+videoelement+audioelement etc? :-p

So who do you think will conqueror (contaminate the most) da wold width web?

MS does it again...

1) EMBRACE: Release MS Flash for Safari, IE and Firefox. Wait a few years until the proportion of sites using the plug-in gets high enough. Convert MSN.com, microsoft.com and msnbc.com to the new thing. Broker deals so that big partners get on board.
2) EXTEND: Release a new and "improved" MS Flash 2 that changes the protocol, a new version so good that it couldn't be made for Safari and Firefox because they are supposedly "inferior" browsers.
3) EXTINGUISH: Whether or not MS Flash succeeds, MS would still have made chinks in Adobe's armor, and made more people dependent on IE for that one website that doesn't work in other browsers.

A brilliantly evil, tried & true strategy for MS.

I think there's a definite separation of v1.0 and v1.1 to consider
