http://labs.opera.com/news/2009/03/13/

So when do you want Turbo?
Right now I do not need it.. Why? Well because my network connection @work is pritty good..
But last year I traveled around around in India and boy trust me I wish i had Turbo at hand back then..
Also the year before when I traveled to Thailand/Cambodia/Malaysia... Turbo is excellent when the connection is slow as sheize..

So who else would benefit fro Turbo?
Well.. What if you are on a laptop using a mobile connection? You could spare a lot of money..
So... Please test it out and remember:

How to test Opera Turbo

Not on a slow connection or out in the outback? You can still pretend to be by emulating slow network speeds following these steps:
Windows
Download and install NetLimiter 2 Pro
Run NetLimiter 2
Set the Units on the top right to KB (kilobyte)
Double-click on the Incoming limit for your user and set to “100”
Check the Limit box next to the “100”
Open Opera and enable Turbo.
Mac
Open the Terminal and type: sudo ipfw pipe 1 config bw 100KByte/s
Then type: sudo ipfw add 1 pipe 1 src-port 80
To remove the bandwidth limitation type: sudo ipfw delete 1

Hi Olli,

I have a computer which suffers from poor wifi coverage, do you think Turbo will help it get any faster? what about old computers with old network adapters that can't reach good speed?

Cyro: Yes, try it out and tell me how it worked :-)

it's working great so far. I think you should incorporate this feature/product to the regular snapshots. All you need is a replacement banner for plugin content. "Shift into Turbo!"

Also, I accidentally tried to upload a file with Turbo on (thru webform), and the browser allowed me to do that. That will waste your precious bandwidth. I think if you plan to keep it free for desktop users, maybe it's better to limit somehow.

We will have to see how we proceed. We already have made a imaqe.. Just need to get it in :-)

Opera Turbo is a nice way to block javascript and the start of playing flash-videos.

But truely it is made for users with reduced (or low) bandwidth of internet access.

Use the 1st circumstand if you restart your browser with manny open tabs of video-portals like youtube.
Use the 2nd if you have a mobile internet access or other kind of bandwidth-sharing technology like TV-cable-internet.
If you have got contemporary fast internet access, secure browser settings and not too much traffic don't use it. It's just made for others.
bigsmile
