The menace of the Opera

Jetlagged

Came back from Microsoftland yesterday after a week of Vista fun.
Sadly we didn't get to spend enough time in Seattle. The only main attraction we visited was the space neadle. Good for a guy like me which is afarid of hights :-p
We met with some of the IE guys aswell. They were all nice, but refused my offer to use Presto as rendering engine :-p

Opera User GroupsInteresting reading for some of you guys :-)

of course MS wouldn't use Presto - your ActiveX support is REALLY buggy!

olli 21. August 2006, 17:16

Well I hoped that if they used presto we would get rid of stuff like that :-p

Indyan 21. August 2006, 18:47

Now, you really want M-dollar to fiddle with presto engine and screw it up ?

olli 21. August 2006, 21:22

Wellif they used Opera'sengine web devs would have to cater for it ;-)

...and the world would be a better place. :D

And people wouldn't continue to write the most w3c uncompliant code for their webpages. Plus, getting rid of Trident would mean that your code displays the same in all browsers. It really isn't too radical of a request, though Microsoft is stubborn and has too much pride in their own code to drop it and use someone else's, even if it is in their own and their users' best interest.

*insert <W3C UnCompliant> button*

I guess the easiest way to get MSIE standards compliant this side of the millennium would involve:

gcc -o iexplore.exe -lopera

:-P

</tongue_in_cheek>

Seriously, nice to see cooperation and talking between competitors, which in turn ends up benefitting developers and users.

And of course, really bad we couldn't meet up in Seattle, me leaving the morning affter you arrived ;(

Anyway, did you guys try the Brazilian grill? Awesome!

olli 23. August 2006, 00:19

nicomen: Nah didn't try that Grill. Was alot we wanted to do that we missed out on as we only had a week there :-|

Well, I have the impression that the devs themselves wouldn't be too angry if they'd use Presto ... it's mostly the management-guys that make decissions like that... better kill Bill for IE, not the devs :]
