The menace of the Opera

Merlin evolving

We are still working hard on Merlin and we have seen improvements both on the core side and on the UI side.
We have implemented an easier way to add searches so people won't need to dinker around with search.ini anymore.
We also got syntax highligting for the source viewer and site prefs is now on it's way into the preferences.

On the core side we have fixed many crashes and we have also added support for opacity.
These are just some of the things happening in our cubicles right now.
More will be revealed later... Later today xmas party :-)

rseiler 11. December 2005, 20:04

Core crashes? Would that include the GDI leak? All the other niceties are pretty meaningless if that one is not plugged.

olli 12. December 2005, 12:47

rseiler: Yeah thats a bad bug and will be looked into.

Bummer. And I never was able to figure out what the "Verbtext=17063" was for...
My bet is still on the original developer's birth day. Or, wait - could it be his office phone number? :left:

Jonspencerbx 19. December 2005, 20:33

Did any work go into the new mail-storage format? Lots of people complained about that (including me...). Glad to see the crashers fixed and the UI for editing search engines is very welcome!

Keep up the good work!

M.

olli 19. December 2005, 21:21

jonspencerbx: Not sure about the stage of that yet

chesss 29. December 2005, 07:47

Андрей Панов 1. January 2006, 20:22

Does adding a new way to add searches mean we can delete useless search engines available by default and add new ones, the cool

S. A. Allen 27. January 2006, 02:28

If the source viewer had an automatic update, rather than me having to hit Ctrl+S all the time to refresh the page, that would make Opera an HTML editor in its own right. Oh yes, and congradulations on the Technical Preview, Opera team. It's stable on this system. Perhaps with help from the community, Opera has the chance to steal the browser crown once and for all.

Ya right with hardly 1 percent share how do we steal the crown.

Dream Sensibly like breaking 1 percent by this years end.

Don't get me wrong I'm a huge Opera fan, been using it since v4.

I'm really frustrated to see Firefox a new dummy browser getting all the praises

pholie 30. January 2006, 18:30

Great. It would be even better if we could easily 'install' some pre-defined search engines from public lists like this one:
http://nontroppo.org/wiki/SearchPlugins

Now they only can be installed as button or field but completely integrating in into existing dropdown box would be awesome.
