Browser Race Part II

Here's another check on new versions of browsers.

Safari 3.1 is out now.
Opera 9.5 is coming, I'm not quite sure when it'll be here.
Firefox 3 has it's first RC freeze on Apr. 8.

Also, here's how they fare in Acid3:
(note: these are the versions currently released. I am aware that the WinGogi build of Opera and WebKit nightly get 100/100)

Safari 3.1 gets 75/100
Opera 9.5 gets ?/100
Firefox 3 nightly gets 71/100

From the Mozilla side of life, that number has not changed for at least a month. Once Fx3 is released, we'll be free and able to get to 100!

An attempt at saving the web from terrible sites

NEVER go to http://smouch.net/lol/. NEVER. If you are wanting to, disable JavaScript. You will be forced into a maze of popups.

I just say for Adblock Plus users, put in http://smouch.net/lol/ so it won't load. Just remember that it is a bad place. Opera developers, please put in something to stop it from coming up. I also talk to WebKit & Gecko devs.

Browser Race

, , , ...

It looks like there is a browser race. Here are the contenders:

Opera 9.5 (Windows, Mac, Linux)
Safari 3 (Windows, Mac)
Firefox 3 (Windows, Mac, Linux, BSD (unofficially))

Opera has no source code released (correct me if I'm wrong).
Safari has rendering engine & JS Engine source code released.
Firefox 3 has all of it's source code released.

Opera's beta has been released, their team has weekly builds at their My Opera Blog.
Safari is on it's 4th Public Beta with Seeds to ADC members periodically.
Firefox has released their first beta and has nightly builds.

Opera seems to be the closest to being released, followed by Safari, and Firefox is tailing.

You may ask "Why is Firefox 'tailing'?".

Firefox's alpha cycle was slow. Believe me, I was testing the alphas.

I have all of these browsers, and they contain many enhacments that are really great.

In other news, Microsoft sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kestrel

I've recently been testing Kestrel & I've gotta say that it ROCKS!
My friend won't try Opera until he gets source code. Opera is a 2nd placer in my browser comparison.

Source code availability would tie it in first with Firefox. Opera has the speed for today's life. It doesn't cut corners like Safari, and has lots of support available.

Would you like to try a combo meal?

PHP + JS + XUL + HTML is the combo here.
