Great bookmarklet quest!

,

You may already know bookmarklets can be used on Opera Mini. At least I have tried to do my best to advertise WapReview article 'Bookmarklets for Opera Mini' by Dennis. Using bookmarklets is possible because Opera Mini support javascript very well. Therefore you can use javascript also in bookmarks like listed at http://o.yeswap.com

To give a nice and quick example, try the 'Google info' bookmarklet:
http://my.opera.com/opera.mini/blog/2008/06/27/great-bookmarklet-quest?javascript:location.href='http://www.google.com/search?q=info%3A'+encodeURIComponent(location.href)
Just open the link, save it into your Opera Mini bookmarks or speeddials and edit it by removing everything before 'javascript...'. Then go to any web site indexed by Google and use this bookmarklet by calling it from Opera Mini keypad shortcuts:

  • For speeddials press * and number of bookmark where you saved the bookmarklet.
  • For bookmarks page press #2 to open bookmarks page and open the bookmarklet

:D And now comes the task for you. I was surprised to find out these bookmarklets are more or less the same as used for desktop browsers. Only difference is the way how you save and use them. It means there are number of bookmarklets waiting for you to discover, test and report them in here.

:knight: I here declare a quest to develop or find more bookmarklets and share them with other Opera Mini fans. There are already many bookmarks listed on web, but since I have no time to test them all, I need your help. You may start the quest on these sites (to get them on Opera Mini, just add http://anyurlthatdoesnotexist.net? in the beginning of bookmarklets):

Notice! You probably can't add scripts into comments. For example in some cases MyOpera server just strip down some characters not allowed to be used on blog articles or comments. Therefore consider adding the full bookmarklet somewhere else where you have more permission and then cite to that page in here. If you can't publish bookmarklet anywhere, then just give me a hint, which bookmarklet you tested and where can I find it.

Selected bookmarklets edited for Opera Mini can be seen at serola.info/bm. Please test and give feedback.

Hear, hear all Opera Mini fans

There is one bookmarklet that lets you view the google's cached page of the current webpage. Though it isnt worth getting in to the speed dials, it sure is of help whenever you get server timeouts.
This bookmarklet works neatly on OM, and i got it to OM via Opera Sync.
Now how do i make it available here? Opera link? How could others access my link page without signing in?
Anyurlthatdoesntexist method wont work coz the JS code exceeds the phone's text size limit.
Anyway here is it,
Google cache bookmarklet

Damn it :frown: I tried to add it here but some scripts are just not allowed to be used even on blogs. I need to put them on my own site. I do it ASAP.

@ Jbpseudo - Is it the one I added as the first bookmarklet at serola.info/bm?

This text size limit on phones is the villian here. You cant handle these bookmarklets without Opera 9.5 :irked:

Now it should work, or it at least work for me on MicroEmulator. I just had to replace all " with ' to avoid a href="" to close.

That's because this blog page of mine is not indexed by Google yet. Try the bookmarklet on some other web page you have retrieved using Google. In other words, search Google for something, open one of the results, and then call the bookmarklet.

Hint: I store bookmarklets that I don't need so often into OM bookmarks page (not speeddials). Then I call them with #2 and select the bookamrklet I want to run.

Update: For now on selected bookmarklets will be published at http://serola.info/bm in order to get shorter URL and a more appropriate favicon for saved bookmarklets.
