And finally a working way to save/ open OBML files on your PC! (Downloading also works!!)

As we all know there are two ways to use Opera Mini full screen on the PC
1) The Microemulator way
2) The Sun Wireless Toolkit(WTK) way

But we want to have the 2 great features of OM 4.1 on the PC, viz Save pages/ Download files.

The micro emulator way to use the JSR75 features is described here.
http://translate.google.co.in/translate?hl=en&sl=ru&u=http://forum.mobile-review.com/showthread.php%3Fp%3D1354422&sa=X&oi=translate&resnum=1&ct=result&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dopera%2Bmini%2Bmicroemulator%2Bmobile-review.com%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DG

Well i had little luck with it :frown:. It might work for you though

Now here comes the one that worked for me from top to bottom.

First of all a million thanks to Makube for this great work. up

Here are his articles,
http://java4me.blogspot.com/2008/01/opera-mini-as-pc-browser-big-screen.html
http://java4me.blogspot.com/2008/05/using-opera-mini-41-features-with.html

Downloading files, saving pages on PC cant get any better bigsmile

Exchanging OBML files between phone and PC is now a breeze p

P.S. I take no credit whatsoever.

Excellent finding Jbpseudo up

I was able to follow Google translated instructions and make MicroEmulator to save pages on Windows XP. It's important to copy the shortcut "object" from original Russian page because the translation has deleted some line spaces. Moreover the path for the jad file need to be corrected into appropriate (e.g. .11355-advanced-int.jad instead of .oldversion-advanced-ru.jad).

Virus detection software may give an alert during first run, but it should be safe enough to run Opera Mini through MicroEmulator.

Also for some reason running this shortcut does not work every time. It looks like you need to have a few seconds break before you start Opera Mini in MicroEmulator window confused

This is where i get lost. I dont know what this object is all about and where is it. I'd be honest and say i know nothing about no java. Could you explain this step to me in detail in your own words?

EDIT: I thought this step is just to create shortcut and editing the config file is the one related to JSR 75. Was that wrong?

btw,
1. Are you able to view obml files saved by phone on microemulator?
2. What exactly happens when you click on save?
3. Did you try the wtk method?

See the attached image ("Kohde" = Object:
MicroEmulator.gif

Steps:
1) Save OM jad and jar files into "apps" folder (see image)
2) Create the shortcut for microemulator.jar (see image)
3) Click microemulator.jar-shortcut using right button of mouse (works in Windows) and select "properties".
4) Replace "Object" with: java -cp microemulator.jar;lib/microemu-jsr-75.jar org.microemu.app.Main --impl org.microemu.cldc.file.FileSystem org.microemu.examples.fcview.FCViewMIDlet apps\opera-mini-4.1.11355-advanced-int.jad (or what ever is the version of OM that you have)
5) Edit C: \ Documents and Settings \ Your Name \. Microemulator\config2.xml as follows (this comes as last before 'config' tag closed):
<extensions>
<extension>
<className>org.microemu.cldc.file.FileSystem</ className>
<properties>
<property VALUE="C:\" NAME="fsRoot"/>
</properties>
</extension>
</extensions>

And I was able to open saved pages but I have not tried OperaMiniLargeDevice & WTK.

Got on my PC, tried that out.
Man, now thats a treat.

Works like a majic wizard
I owe you a beer

I am a bit confused now which one should i use
Microemu or WTK?

IMO, Microemu UI is very easy to use.
but WTK UI is much quicker.
I need to compare them a lot more sherlock

Very happy for now happy

EDIT:
After working on both the emulators for about a couple of hours, this is my first impressions.

Microemulator wins in many aspects.
Initially WTK seemed faster but as time went by it became a memory hog.
I started to get 'error fetching file' scared during downloads.
So personally i'd prefer microemulator over WTK.

Here are some screenshots.

Yes, that is the point here. Just like you run Opera Mini emulator at http://www.operamini.com/demo/

Edit: Sorry, I must get new spectacles o Opera Mobile is stand alone browser, so the answer is NO. Or if you can, then I really don't know how.

I got some screenshots for you.

When you copy/paste
java -cp microemulator.jar;lib/microemu-jsr-75.jar org.microemu.app.Main --impl org.microemu.cldc.file.FileSystem org.microemu.examples.fcview.FCViewMIDlet apps\opera-mini-4.1.11355-advanced-int.jad,
into 'target', make sure you change the name of the jad file according to the one in your apps folder.

Here we go,

create shortcut.jpg
properties.jpg
properties2.jpg
change target.jpg
apply.jpg
after apply.jpg
open.jpg
open2.jpg

hmmmm......The device we select to use OM, the default or the large or the resizable ones are not developed with OM in mind. But that doesnt end the story.
I had used the sun wtk emulator and there was a device that had some different shortcuts.
May be some more research is needed here sherlock.

@ktricho, Somewhere else i read about an alternative way which might work for you. Replace the config2.xml file with the one inside this zip file,
http://baicon.wab.ru/plus/config2.zip
Create a folder named 'filesystem' inside the .microemulator folder(the folder which has config2 file). Now inside the 'filesystem' folder create two folders named 'C' and 'E'.
Try saving pages now.

You are great ! love
When I open the folder '.microemulator' I found the folder 'filesystem' was already there but it was Empty, I open it and make two new folder named 'C' and 'E'.
** :happy:ly
Now =>microemulator shortcut=>start=> . . "Operamini started. . "=>menu=>bookmark=>saved folder=> ". .blank folder appear. ."=> Manage => set folder => msg 'set permission to allow opera mini. . . .' =>I clicked ok
HERE I FOUND TWO FOLDER/DIRECTORY 'C' AND 'E'
I select 'c'.
Though it was blank as i've not saved any file yet. But when I copied all saved page 'obml file' from phone to .../.microemulator/filesystem/c/
when I open them with my operamini on pc
.
.
LO !! yesup. It work like magic !.beer. .cheers

hi friends. I've done as told above, and the shortcut is placed in the same folder where microemulator.jar is there but i'm getting this error while running the shortcut.

Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: lib/microemu-jsr-75/j

which i understand is that it is unable to find the classpath for lib folder, when it is there only under microemulator folder.
What can i do?

You need to check whether the config2.xml file is updated. You might try the config2.zip file link i have given.
Even though it looks irrelevant, make sure you set the location of .jad file correct, i.e., change it to the one in your apps folder.

Hello!

In simple terms, my knowledge of software is VERY limited. I was able to use Sun Wireless toolkit to save files in the OBML format. My model is Sony Ericosson W810 with screen resolution of 176*220. The problem is the emulator offers only four options for screen size, viz., "default color", "default gray", "media control skin" and "Qwerty", and none of these resolutions render properly when I transfer the files back to my mobile phone. What can I do about it? It would be very nice if some one could give me step-by-step instructions about what and how can something be done.

Thanks in advance.

Hi!

In very simple words, my object is to be able to save files on the PC in a proper (176*220) resolution, which I could transfer on to my cell phone and view thus saving on GPRS cost.

When I try the Sun wireless toolkit, the resolution isn't proper though I can save the files, and also view them on my cell phone. I tried to add a new skin using the instructions in "BasicCustomizationGuide", ie. I created a folder called "w810prelim" and renamed all the files in that folder with the same name, but with that I couldn't get a new option in the program "Default Device Selection" that is available with the toolkit. Then, I changed the .properties files of defaultcolordevice to the above resolution, but that didn't open and got the following error message "OTA server emulation started ...
HTTPS server emulation started ...
Warning: Could not start new emulator process:
java.lang.NumberFormatException: For input string: "240screen.height=320"". The numbers are 240 and 320, as I tried to get the file into original resolution

While, if I use the microemulator and use the resizable screen option, I can set the screen size to appropriate resolution but NOT save the file. In spite of having downloaded the Opera 4.1 versions of both .JAR and .JAD files, and having the JSR-25 file in the following folder "microemulator-2.0.2.tar.gz\microemulator-2.0.2\lib".

Could someone please tell me how do I view the files in above resolution and also be able to save them in .OBML format to be able to view them on my cell phone.

Thanks in advance

This might be a foolish question, but sorry I am not into these Java things
