How to install windows media player (WMP11) plug-in for opera

, , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Windows media player plug-in has recently become a headache for many users specially those using vista. With the new buzz of WMP firefox plug-in, there is more confusion than ever before. That installer should install in c:\PFiles> and should be either auto-detected by opera or copy files to opera plug-in folder. Sometimes, nothing happens. There are discussion in the forum to extract np-mswmp.dll file from C:\PFiles\Plugins\np-mswmp.dll to opera plug-in folder. You can also get the np-mswmp.dll file by extracting(using uniextract program) the installer itself.

Method 1 For your conenience, you can download this zip file with latest wmp plug-ins and extract the files to opera's plug-in folder(c>programfiles>opera>program>plug-in).

Alternate Method: I use WMP 11 plug-in files without any problem on windowx xp and vista(don't know about 64-bit).For me old horse still runs good! So I would rather recommend use this simple steps to make windows media player plug-in working with opera.

You will need the following files: npds.zip, npdsplay.dll, and npwmsdrm.dll in Opera's plugins directory for WMP plug-in to work with opera. Get these plug-in files from this zip file, unzip and copy/paste those to opera's plug-in folder (c:\program files>opera>program>plug-in ). Start opera and enjoy. Tools>advanced>plug-ins should show you detected plug-in for WMP.

Very nice.

I couldnt view videos on BBC news website, and simply downloading the zip file and placing the 3 files in the plugin folder made the file play (after restarting the browser).

I'm using Opera 9.26 on Windows Vista 64bit.

I tried the second method on vista 64 but I couldn't get it to play the video on http://www.computerandvideogames.com/ (to play the video press the "launch Player" button on the left hand side). Does it work for anyone else?

for vista, you may try method 1 and use imply the plug-in files.

Thanks for the help. I had a couple of instances of opera installed as well as fire fox and it seems opera was getting confused when it saw duplicates of the same plug-ins in different directories. To solve the problem I deleted all the plug-ins in the opera plug-in folders and just let opera find the plug-ins in the Firefox directory. This seams not only to have solved my problem with WMP but also Flash player.

It has been the case for most users who have both opera and ff. But for flash it should be detected from system32 folder. I never installed firefox and can't comment definitively about complexities that may arise in plug-ins and plug-in paths due to both browser sharing similar plugins.
Anyway, glad that it works for you.
