Open Page in IE inside opera window with Neptune Plugin
Tuesday, October 3, 2006 8:58:40 PM
It is very easy to open page in IE inside opera using neptune Plug-in.
Step-1: Download neptune Plug-in and install.
Update: Neptune plug-in is updated with their new installer. Now it works smooth s opera detects the plug-in files from its own location.
If you go to tools>advanced>plug-ins, You are likely to see the following:
MeadCo's Neptuneapplication/x-meadco-neptune-ax ax
C:\PROGRA~1\MEADCO~1\npmeadax.dll
Step-2: You need modified menu/shortcut/button to use the feature open in IE. Just do either or both of the following options:
a)Custom Button(Easiest option): It is very easy . Just go to operawiki site and choose your button (thanks to ale5000 for creating view in IE button). There are different options like "view in IE" in the same tab(recommended), "view in IE" (opens in new tab) and open in IE(separate IE window). Just clcik on the button. It it wll ask for adding this custom button. Just add it and drag it anywhere in the toolbars you like. To open page in ie, click tha button in your toolbar, it should open the page in ie in the same tab.Sometimes you need to click again on the button to make it work.
Alternately, you can simply use my custom toolbar which already includes the button. Firefox switchers can also get firefox like toolbar with this button included. Right click in the link above and save target as to "Toolbar" folder under your profile directory. Go to Tools>Preferences>advanced>toolbar>select the toolbar setup.
b) Menu item (Advanced option):
First Download this zip file(thanks to tatepa) to desktop(or anywhere) and then right click on the zip file>extract to " c:\Program Files\Opera". This will create a folder named Open-In-IE. Then Download this menu setup (right click in the link and save target as) to "Menu" folder under your profile directory (usually in win xp c:documents&setting\username\application data\opera\menu and in vista in Win Vista C:\Users\yourname\AppData\Roaming\Opera\menu). You can always find your exactly profile directory from help>about opera. Then open opera, go to Tools>preferences>advanced>toolbar> select the menu file>ok.
Now. open the page you want to view in IE. Right click>Open in IE. The page will now open in IE.Only thing is that the new page will appear blank and will display "click to activate and use this control". Just click on the page and content will show up. but you can avoid this also by using "noclicktoactivate " user JS.
Another optional userjs you can download which sometimes helps playing activex content smoothly in some webpages.
Hope it helps. Might look too many steps but it is easy if you follow instructions. Once setup, its nice.
If you like to open certain sites always in IE:
Fred Erik, is one of the great opera users in this forum and he has kindly visited my blog to provide this wonderful user script that allows you to open certain sites in IE always.(for example windows update site). Just see the comment section below this post.
Installing user scripts: See instructions on "How to install user scripts".
Finally, if you install IE7Pro, then you can have some added features in IE.

Add this UserJS to your UserJS folder. To make a site automatically open using Neptune, just add the adress to the UserJS, just like the ones already in there. www.windowsupdate.com is one of the sites I already added as an example.

I hope this helps others. This is just awesome. This really makes Opera complete for me. Some sites I visit will not except Opera and even if I mask it as IE or Firefox it still will not work. Now I don't have to bring up old and ugly IE for certain sites. I can just use it's engine only.
By the way thank you so much for making these instructions available to everyone. Jon T. the CEO of Opera himself needs to call you and personally thank you.

To open the page in opera again, simply refresh the page or hit back/forward button.

With the >>"view in IE" (opens in new tab)<< Opera hangs when I click on a menu item after rightclicking. So it's a nice feature, but if Opera crashes in the worst way I've ever seen, I have to stick to >>open in IE(separate IE window)<<

Which version of opera you are using ? I see neptune working fine with opera 9.23 for me. Fred erik's blog reported few issues though(http://my.opera.com/fred_erik/blog/2007/06/05/opera-9-2-and-up-is-incompatible-with-neptune-plugin). Have you checked individual plug-in files ? Also if opera seems like freezing, try minimizing it(by clicking on the opera window icon in windows task bar) and maximize it again. That might help.

But do you maybe know how to get rid of these javascript errormessages?
They keep popping up many times when loading in an IE frame.
Anonymousfred2erik # Monday, October 8, 2007 3:58:19 PM
You can use step two from my package for this, but it's more like a workaround, as it closes the error messages immediately.
However, there is no real solution, as it is a bug (or the lack of a feature) of the Neptune plugin, which we cannot edit. You should ask MeadCo, it's developer for that, but they have stopped developing the plugin a long time ago, so it's highly unlikely they'll do it.
JordyV # Tuesday, October 9, 2007 10:20:39 AM
Nee, alleen Nederlandsche Windows. Kon bij installatie helaas niet voor Engels kiezen
Thanks for the link. I installed STEP 2 and the errormessages disappear automatically. Now this plug-in is very useful!

I will have to try it... hope not to mess all things up

Saw this link. Have not tried it, yet.
What links look "funny" in Opera, and better in IE?
(Some excamples)
I am just curious, because I have not seen such pages, yet.
Greetings

I hope you guys can help me with this issue I am having for the last 45 minutes. I have installed neptune plugin and it looks it is working (I tried using option 1 by using the custom button). If I want a page to load in IE, i load in opera and click on the custom button and it gives me the page in IE. Great... the problem i am having is I want to use the script that Fred Erik created so it will auto load in IE but I can't get it to work. In order to use the script do I have to use option 2 which is the menu item?

This possibly is a lack of resources/dll's normally found in XP but not installed in WIN2k.
After some work, I got it working in my environmet, Opera9.25.
0. Stop OPERA.
1. Don't exit neptune's installer when receiving the upper error.
2. Localize neptune's temp folder - usually "\Dokumente und Einstellungen\<user>\Lokale Einstellungen\Temp\IXP000.TMP" on _german_ win2000.
3. Put files npmeadax.dll, Neptune.inf into "\Programme\Opera\program\plugins"
4. Open a DOS box in "\Programme\Opera\program\plugins". Enter the command "regsvr32.exe npmeadax.dll". You'll get a confirmation the dll has registered.
5. Add the toolbar icon as described.
Now you can run NEPTUNE without errors.

1.I click on "view in IE"
2. Another page pops up and the status bar gives info like "Website found waiting for reply" and so on until "DONE"
3. The page is totally blank
4. I have to press F5 and Esc in quick succession, and then the page shows in IE. After this, I can easily use the page in IE..
Why do I have to quickly refresh and stop the refreshing to show the page?
If I delay pressing the Escape button , it loads the page in Opera, not IE

Please note that the opening of page in ie is entirely dependent upon neptune plug-in and I think they haven't updated it for long time. Some anomalies is possible.
pm to fred erik about the always open in ie script.

But please note that you need to update your installer so that users can get a smooth install and opera detects the plug-ins. If you had that fixed, there was no need for this post even.
jmead # Tuesday, July 8, 2008 7:22:32 AM
Many thanks for your prompt reaction. I probably missed the zips dealing with copying around around our individual fies, too, btw. They should be included.
>> you need to update your installer <<
Quite right. Please try the current installer:
http://www.meadroid.com/neptune/download/index.htm
A few months ago the Neptune binaries were slightly updated to deal with a couple of weirdies of our own (we DO test on all alpha and beta builds of Opera & report bugs as appropriate, btw) and in particular the install system has been changed to remove the need to manually find and copy files about the place.
So you might want to remove anything Neptune-ish from Start | Programs | MeadCo along with any exisiting copies of npmeadax.dll, then grab the new installer and give it go.
It should now deliver the smooth experience you're after (the first change since the days of pre-Gecko Netscape, btw!)

The new installer looks good to me as I just tried it. Opera automatically detected the plug-ins from the neptune installation directory. Nice.
The one suggestion I have is that although there are custom buttons available in this forum to execute that plug-in, there is no official interface to make that plug-in work in opera. Thats why users created such help pages. I would suggest that you guys create a button for opera(just the same as we have in this forum) to open IE using neptune. This way it will be easier for users to collect everything they need from your website to make your product work in opera.
Thanks for this nice work anyway.

Great thought, thanks. I'll put that up to our (over-worked and highly volatile) devs, and hope not to get beaten up again!
Thanks again for your prompt co-operation over this issue, btw. As you say, with the new installer we can get the updated code installed and running much more satisfactorily.

I click on "View in IE"
The page becomes blank and the status bar reads:
"Website found waiting for reply"
then" 24 items left" etc
and
DONE.
But the page is blank!
If I reload, and quickly stop, the page is visible in IE.
But only if I do this...!
I tried changing the options for redraw instantly to redraw after a few secs etc.
Didn't work.

On further inspection it appears the MD5 of the file I downloaded today is exactly the same as the file I downloaded and tried out in June so no further development then, despite the website now claiming integration with Google Chrome too!
Maybe I'm missing something or it's to do with my setup but IMHO I think this plugin needs more work in order for it to live up to it's promises.

Lex1 - thanks for the heads-up.
The new updated button on that page works a treat. I finally have the Neptune plugin working again - cheers!
