My brother Jeff

This is my brother Jeff on thanksgiving day. He is 5 years younger than I am. He loves sports, especially the Green Bay Packers and any team from Wisconsin, as we were raised in Shorewood, Wisconsin (Milwaukee). I will take more time later to talk about Jeff. bye for now

My Dad on Turkey day 2008

This is my Dad, Dean Burton on Thanksgiving Day. He is 81 years young and in good health. This year again, Jeff, my brother and Betsy, his partner bought Boston Market dinner, I provided the cold shrimp and crackers, and Dad provided the wine (Merlot). We  our fannies off telling old stories. But one of the funniest parts of the day was the dessert part of the meal. Dad makes coffee and I serve up the blueberry pie. I drink my coffee with cream or milk and sugar, so I look in his fridge, and see no milk :yikes: (he lives by himself) and has like 5 beers, some wine, and maybe a tub of butter in his fridge. Ok, so I ask, "do you have any milk"? He says "no", ok, I had enough wine at this point that I just could not stop laughing, as I put vanilla icecream in my coffee. So did Jeff and Betsy. He is the only one who drinks coffee black  (as he is half Norwegien you see). Again, I could not stop laughing during dessert, but all was well. Next year, or at Christmas dinner, I'll bring the milk or Bailey's Irish Cream Homer: Doh!

PE Conference

Today and some of my teaching collegues attended the Illinois Association of Physical Education Health and Dance at the beautiful Pheasant Run Resort in St.Charles, Illinois  10 minutes from where I live. The day started out with coffee, while three of us planned on which sessions we would attend, and what vendors we might shop at. Friday, the vendors put lots of good stuff on sale, before they break down the exhibits at 1:00 :hat: I attended a good session on including special needs kids into general physical education class, and a research project from an undergraduate student from Illinois State University on his experience working with a child with autism during his student teacher. He did a great job. Next I found myself trying to find any session that did not have standing room only :frown: The popular sessions are always well attended. All in all it was a good conference. I bought my traditional book from the publisher Human Kinetics and off I went bye

Speed stacking

This is a sport called Speed Stacking. More about this later. I discovered speed stacking or sometimes it's called cup stacking at this very conference I believe 8 or 9 years ago, at the time it was a small company founded by a man in the Denver, Colorado area. The concept here, is to develop right and left handedness by upstacking and downstacking specially designed cups with your left and right hands in opposition, thus crossing the midline of the body and working both sides of the brain. The sport has grown to thousands, maybe millions worldwide :D If you attend a speed stacking session, you receive a free bag of 12 cups. How many bags of 12 do you think I have  I'm sure if anyone not familiar with this fasinating right-left-right-left, etc....phenomenon, can view a video clip of it on Youtube.

The fishy necklace

Wednesday at school, one of my teaching assistant's asked me (at 8:00 am) how do I keep my energy up? I said with good coffee, and the fish philosophy, and I showed her my necklace with a cute little green stripped fish on it. Deb responded back and said, "oh I take fish oil too" I said, well the fish philosophy is about these guys at a fish market in Seattle Washington and how they keep their engery up.
So, I gave Deb the Fish video to watch over the weekend. Our special education cooperative is very "fishy" and so is the 2nd floor of the district office, where I have an office, and my fish display of which I am very proud  I will post Deb's response to the Fish video when she gives me her critique.

Fish philosophy

Here is part of my "Fish" collection located at my office  If anyone out there is familiar with the Fish philosophy, you know, you cannot have too many fish to remind you to "be there, make their day, and be a team player  especially when working with children who have special needs :smurf:

Leaves

Today we are preparing for winter by raking and mulching leaves on the 1.65 acre property. Yes, of course we have a mulching tractor  Maybe this weekend we can put the cover on the swimming pool too.

Preparing for winter

It's always nice to have a little camp fire when doing outside work in 35-degree temps. Trying to do outside work and sneak in to watch a bit of the Ohio State at Illinois football game too
