Needs wings clipped

I suppose Kiwi the "flying" Jardines parrot could in fact be the "Twitter" Mascot  but this is what happened this morning as Pat and I are getting ready for work. The birds hang out in the warm bathroom and have a snack of almonds or part of a granola bar. Pat decides to play some music :sing: from the PC as she quickly checks to see what her farm is doing on facebook. Since music is out of the ordinary routine, Kiwi, who is on a shelf, freaks out, flys around the bathroom and lands on the light fixtures above the sink. She really needs to get her wings clipped soon. And so does the African Grey

Dean Burton RIP :)

Now doesn't our Dad look comfy with a fleece Chicago Cubs blankie under him? Of course he does! It was a tough decision to buy a Cubs urn or a Green Bay Packers urn. The deciding factor was pretty easy. Dad was pretty much a Cub fan all his life, with the exception of the 1957 and 1958 Milwaukee Braves. Packer urns are harder to find, especially in Bears country. He's happy, and so is his life long friend and Cub fan, Howie Nelson  by the way, I'm telling folks that it is Dean's new "condo" ya know, "The Cubs Condo"

Blog action day: Global Warming

Alrighty then, it's blog action day 2009 and the theme is "Global Warming" Just take a look at the photo of the suspended leaf  Do you really think that a leaf suspended in mid-air would have been possible 30 years ago? This one leaf, located in St.Charles, in the State of Illinois, the county of Kane is truly floating in air  Not possible without above average temperatures. Also, on this particular day, the wind was blowing from the southwest, and it still remained suspended. Amazing, and that's all I have to say about that! (quote from the movie, Forest Gump) bye

Song from the past

So today is Wednesday, October 7th, 2009. Our Dad passed away on October 3rd. Today is the last of my 3 days off for a death in the family. The plan is to pick up my brother Jeff, have lunch with the Nelson's and go to Dad's apartment so Jeff can take his car, and we also went through a few things. But this is what happened as I left the house at about 9:45 this morning. Sometimes when nobody is home, we put on a CD for the parrots. I usually don't, just because I forget or I'm in a hurry. But today, I decided to put on what I thought was a CD. 1) Pushed the "on" button 2) assumed there was a CD already in, so I pushed "CD" just in case. 3) As I freshen up my coffee, I hear the song "Turn, turn, turn" by the Byrds :yikes: If anyone knows the lyrics to this song, well I check the stereo and it was actually on "FM", and maybe the final 3/4 of the song played. I got chills, as I just stood there with my mouth open :yikes: knowing that this was meant to be....meant to be heard. Lesson: There IS a reason for everything rip

Mom and Dad

A photo of Mom and Dad standing up to someone's wedding in the late 40's or early 50's. Not sure whose wedding it was, maybe Aunt Sally and Uncle Dick's wedding :sherlock: Inquiring minds want to know  And, old glossy photos are really hard to capture, so you don't get the flash in it.

Deanie Bambini-Burton

Our Dad surrounded by peace doves. If anyone is confused by the last name, scroll to the blog entry titled "Last name story"

Dad and Jeff Christmas 2008

This is my Dad and brother Jeff at Christmas 2008. Our small family has spent the past few years celebrating Thanksgiving and Christmas at his apartment. I mean so what if we ate a really good Boston Market or Jewell dinner? :chef: It's being together that matters. Right?

Pink Crocs

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, which is signified by the color pink, here are the Crocs that I am wearing this month. My Dad is a breast cancer survivor, but is struggling with other health issues now.

Now and Then

I've been quite active on facebook and classmates.com because my 40th reunion is coming up on October 2nd. Nope, I'm not going to the formal event, but may go to a picnic thing the next day. Maybe it will entail watching the NFL at some gin mill in Lombard, Illinois (the Lilac Town) The leader of the reunion committee asked anyone who was interested to bring then and now photos. So here is one of my better works of art  more to come

Map

I know this is not the greatest photo of the soon to be finished "Stearns Rd. Bridge", but if you live in the area, like I do, you can make sense of it. When completed, the new bridge and roads leading to the bridge, will provide a much needed path over the Fox River in S. Elgin. A new foot/bike path will go under the road, which is cool  Also, the environment is being protected as a part of this project. Some very nice wetlands and forest preserves are near the construction zone.
