Nice job. :D

I'd like a widget to know real-time football score updates.
You could use this site http://www.livescore.com/ , if possible.

Thanks :D

Good going guys, keep up the good work!

Why this widget has non-standard close button? At least in-house widgets should be consistent in style and GUI...

A widget for public transport connection information in Berlin would be nice: http://www.fahrinfo-berlin.de/Fahrinfo/bin/query.bin/en?ld=0.1&

drlaunch 21. June 2007, 19:22

Anonymous ( ): There's already a stumbleupon menu for Opera. And several bookmarklets. What we're missing is most likely that the StumbleUpon team allow browsers to stumble without the toolbar.

But a widget that allows you to post stuff to and visit sites from many different social bookmarking sites would be awesome.

I don't have any ideas that I can share now. But I'll try to think up something good.

1.One widget to rule em all!

A widget that can 'hold' all other widgets. So that instead of having several widgets crammed around and blocking my alt+tab, there is only one widget.
Not sure if this is even possible..

2. Widget that detects website open in current tab, and accordingly changes content. Say if I am visiting digg.com it shows a particular page(fit-to-widthed).
Again not sure if its possible.

Galileo 21. June 2007, 19:44

Nice to see so much effort for a better Opera. Would you consider an mirc like widget, with right click customization and stuff like that. Keep up the good work.

Zotlan 21. June 2007, 19:55

A way for widgets to be resizeable would be favourite. But how about some widhets that keep track of your system? I'm thinking of RAM/CPU usage, data sent/recieved, how full your HD is. THat kind of thing. We've seen plenty of widgets that have some sort of site in them and, frankly, i do not see the point. If i go to the site i can view it much better.

Incidentally, could you do something like this for UserJS scripts?

I'd love to see an Anime Fansub release widget that would give direct links to the torrent downloads with the possibility to either filter the results or have it highlight predefined search terms.

I'd also like to support the idea already mentioned of having some sort of universal widget management like another flyout toolbar that could sit on the right side. Being able to dock, undock, and scroll would be unbelievable. That way any very important widgets could stay on top and placed anywhere or docked to the flyout toolbar and tucked out of the way when not needed.

Keep up the great work!!

Nice doing Opera India! I would really love to see a widget letting me chat on msn and yahoo. It's because my browser is always on to check email, so if there is a widget of msn or yahoo, i dont have to run those programs separately on my pc.
Thanks!

Hi,

My idea for a widget is pretty simple:

I want a percentage view that wll show how many percent (of total bandwidth) of the current website where fetched from cache.

60% would show that 60% where fetched from cache, and 40% from the web. This could be calculated in three steps:
1) Measure the total bandwidth used,
2) measure file size fetched from cache, and
3) find the difference between the two values.

Thanks in advance!

This ideea where originally intended to be an Firefox extension.

Aleksandersen 21. June 2007, 23:46

An Opera widget version of the Mint widget (currently available for Dashboard, Vista, Y!WE, ..).

Aleksandersen 21. June 2007, 23:48

Ask! search widget that match the look and functionality of the new Ask.com front page.

Aleksandersen 21. June 2007, 23:50

...and of course: More web developer tools. Just give us anything.

I would personally prefer page loading time and cache analytics/metrics widgets.

Tristen 22. June 2007, 00:06

A Todoist widget and a developer reference widget that looks up css, html, javascript, php, ect and displays the relevant reference material in the widget, not opening a browser page.

vd2k 22. June 2007, 08:57

1st.
Currency converter for more than 2 currencies at a time, i.e. USD=GBP=EUR

2nd.
I would like to use an Amazon-widget, that shows me the prices of an item in USD, EUR and GBP on their different websites. This should be possible, because if you query Amazon.de and find an item on the site you only need to change the .de into .com or .co.uk to get the same item from a different country.

3rd.
To create the necessary global awareness: a HIV/AIDS, malaria, sleeping sickness and tbc barometer. Just like the World Population widget. My inspiration: HIV/AIDS barometer and MSF Access Campaign.
Some statistics:
-Every 7 seconds a person dies of HIV/AIDS.
-A child dies of malaria every 30 seconds.
-Every minute a person dies of tuberculosis.
-Sleeping sickness: 60,000 persons die per year.

4th.
A Windows Live Mail checker.

5th.
Easy one. Opera Cross Platform Version Update, i.e. Windows, Wii, Linux, Mobile etc. etc.

6th.
Add a search box to existing Google Maps widgets.

A thousand thanX!

OMFG, this is awesome - GO OPERA INDIA *loves*

The first thing when I saw this? Was how the males in my family would go nuts if there were a cricket widget - something that would automatically update with the latest scores on a game (or multiple games!) Of course, being in america now, my mind is drawn to football scores (but soccer scores would pwn EVERYTHING)

The thing that would make me most happy is a proper text to html via a WYSIWYG editor - specifically for all the blogs. Half the time I forget my html tags, so being able to type a message add a pic with a click of a button and a link too, and then just copy the code? would make life easier. I'd specifically like one developed for livejournal in future ( with their lj-user= tags etc.) but any widget to improve the blogging experience would be great.

Developer widgets? Hell yes. I've wanted a color picker - and better yet, after using a color picker, being able to increase/decrease saturation and brightness and maybe mix a color with another like so:

color 1 blend 1 blend 2 blend 3 blend 4 color 2

Blend 1 is closer in color to color 1 and blend 4 is closer in color to color 2.

Or if all else fails, a colourlovers.com widget for quick inspiration on color schemes.

Maybe a widget that can extract links from a selected area on a page? I sometimes get links that I need to organize and label and copying and pasting them raw into a text files is such a pain (especially when there were 200+ links like yesterday...) There are link extractor programs but a lot of them cost a pretty penny or are download managers.

My roomie would love a widget that taps into Google talk or msn or AIM (or multiple IM applications, lol).

A mapquest widget (as opposed to google maps) would be beyond awesome since it would make travelling quite a bit faster since directions would be a click away.

Finally, I'd like a widget that automatically get's the latest posts on my livejournal friend's page. Totally a luxury but it would make me bouncy ( plus more livejournal widgets would convince my friends to use Opera, haha)

IMO, if y'all want to make widgets more popular, cater to the social networks (myspace, hi5, friendster etc.) blogs (livejournal, blogger etc.) and the web 2.0 sites (youtube, daily motion, crunchy roll etc.) Usage would go through the roof.

Good luck with the widget!marathon XD

People at Opera has a lot of respect at Yahoo! why don't you guys work together to have a Yahoo Toolbar for Opera? Its the only thing that is stopping me from using Opera as primary browser. That toolbar is handy as I can maintain a roaming profile (I have one office comp, one home comp, 2 virtual machines, and soon be having a laptop). I love the speed and performance of Opera and its inbuilt mail client.

Anyways, some widget ideas:
Encarta Dictionary Lookup
Craigslist Search
Cricket Score
Online Radio Player

Eidolen 23. June 2007, 22:32

Is it possible to make some sort of widget to capture form text or duplicate anything typed into Opera notes? I can't think of a more useful feature than the protection of not losing long posts or other inputed text that can be lost in so many ways.

I really think it should be integrated into all browsers but there must be a reason it isn't and it probably has something to do with security. Maybe a widget would be a good way to accomplish this.

I've already posted to the Opera Desktop wish-list forum as have others wanting this capability. I know it would make a ton of people happy who get so caught up in their thoughts and forget to copy to notes before hitting the submit button only to have the browser crash or the site time you out.

I even have a name for it. The Sanity Saving Safety Net. =D

Crosses Fingers...

drlaunch 23. June 2007, 22:46

I feel like a lot of those who comment here believe Firefox extensions and Opera widgets are the same. But they're not. Firefox extensions are add-ons that enhance your browsing mostly, and Opera Widgets are web applications taken out of the browser and onto the desktop, roughly speaking. Sure. Making a widget that allows you to browse something differently is possible but really not necessary. What you're looking for then is bookmarklets, custom buttons, user JS or user CSS. Or a feature that's already in Opera that you haven't found.

Widgets are web applications and not necessarily browing enhancements.

drlaunch 25. June 2007, 07:55

Ok. I got an idea. How about a My Opera shoutbox widget? Here are the main features:

  • Friend list
  • Monitoring your shoutbox
  • Posting in your own shoutbox
  • Posting in a friend's shoutbox
  • Monitoring a friend's shoutbox
  • Posting in a group's shoutbox
  • Monitoring a group's shoutbox

Slightly off topic, but I think the My Opera shoutboxes should have a whisper feature.
