Server upgrade, with a little help from our friends

We did a server upgrade yesterday. See below for changelog. Thanks to our great users, we found out this morning that there were a couple of regressions, like a problem downloading things in Opera Mini. After some discussions in the forum, where we figured out how to reproduce, the server guys did a great job fixing it very fast, and now it's working! That's one great advantage of having such a wonderful community as Opera has. We have very many dedicated users who do their very best to assist us. Thank you all!

Changelog:
  • Added a simple UI to the server-side preferences that exists. Go to 'opera:config' to configure some settings.
  • Tweaked phonenumber detection, there should be somewhat fewer false positives now, but you can now also disable the feature on the opera:config page.
  • Increased the default timeouts to 40 seconds from 20.
  • Updated to a HTML rendering engine to be similar to the latest Opera 9.5 weekly release.
  • Fixed support for entering hostnames starting with a number (eg, 360.yahoo.com) as a URL without the starting http://
  • Made content folds visible even when the background is black.
  • Fixed inter-page links ().
  • Fixed clipping rectangle for iframes with hidden overflow css properties, this bug caused some links inside some iframes to be unclickable.
  • Fixed HTTP basic auth for pages with non-7bit authentication realm.
  • Pages with nested tags are now somewhat easier to navigate, it's now possible to follow both the inner and the outer link.
  • New WML stylesheet.
  • Various optimizations resulting in the average transcoding time to be 20% lower.

In the first paragraph is a broken url-tag, and in the point starting with "Pages with nested" there is an tag that's broken

Cool. Only thing I had to change on opera:config was phone number detection length (default 5).

The options are saved locally, right? Pretty neat how the new UI for local options could be done on the servers without a new client version.

opera:config is not working for me when I try it. Is there any specific magic that needs to be enabled?

Johan Schön 5. February 2008, 18:20

Currently you need to enter opera:config yourself, references in other web pages do not work.

(I edited the post to de-linkify the opera:config references.)

Excellent. Very useful. :D Now, about Opera Mobile 9.5... If I buy the current one will I have to pay again for the new one?

Thats great Opera Mini is the "backbone of my LG cellphone" its very reliable and most of the net welcomes its speed and agility. i wish you well and hope you travel to the great wall or Luxor, like your California/Tijuana tour a while back. P.S. Has Macromedia/Adobe created a way to visit these flash-based websites like www.glu.com (mobile games) with Opera mini on my 23mb ram LG Cellphone? just Cellphone Surfing is great, I Type with my thumb, it knows without looking. Cool Ya.

I would not mind if a config option allowed me to turn of images in Rss feeds.

This to save data costs when using the mini as my Rss reader on the go.

Ah, seems the “opera:config” URL is case-sensitive, and my phone likes beginning inputs with a capital letter, so I was trying to open “Opera:config” instead… ☺
