Opera Mini Blog

4.1 lemontopic - coming next week!

, ,

The Mini Team is now preparing the final version of Opera Mini 4.1. Since
the beta we have done more than 150 changes to fix various issues and to
ensure that it will run as well as possible on your device. Many of these
changes are based directly on feedback from you. Among other things we
have adjusted how the "Save Page" function works and also made it possible
for BlackBerry users to surf with Wi-Fi. And to the person that reported
"Find in page does not work in Bookmarks page": we have fixed that one as
well

We would like to use this opportunity to thank you for the help in the
test phase. Without your support we would not have been able to find all
the strange issues on all those strange phones. Now, get ready to help
spread the word that a new version of the worlds most popular mobile
browser has arrived

Thanks, Opera Mini is really the best.

There will be no beta 2 or release candidate before the final version ?

shadowk 9. May 2008, 15:44

Great.

KYren 9. May 2008, 16:16

serola 9. May 2008, 16:22

Very welcome "completion" :D

jbpseudo 9. May 2008, 16:33

 Thats good news.
@serola. think you got it first again buddy.

serola 9. May 2008, 16:50

Well, it can be a "optic melon" as well

piroxicam 9. May 2008, 16:56

I hope you have correct the problem that with Opera Mini 4.1 beta I keep getting a lot of blank pages when I try to view webpages. Almost 60% of all the clicks I do, I get a blank page instead of the page I requested.

As this been corrected?

andresruiz 9. May 2008, 17:29

Well, it's kinda surprising for me, I expected Beta 2, and Beta 3 (as happened with OM 4.0) so I hope you fixed all strange issues with all strange phones :D
Maybe my SE K550i is not a strange phone, so I hope you solved that issue that I reported on the Bug Wizard related to OM 4.1B1 made my phone lose the internet configuration so I had to call my operator (TIGO in Colombia) to receive internet settings again.
Hey... you work faster than Desktop Team !!

Km1562 9. May 2008, 17:45

I do look forward to the new release. I hope 'change skin' option is back. My Nokia 3110c worked well with 4.1 except for top to bottom arrangement of text with some sites

Mohni08 9. May 2008, 17:56

It seems to be good.
I hope that i can download files directly from opera which does not works on my nokia 6233

DjiXas 9. May 2008, 19:15

I just hope that the problem with international characters and small fonts will be fixed. Now it's only [] instead of a symbol.

Furie 9. May 2008, 19:40

*fingers crossed for Save Page added to context menu*

KYren 9. May 2008, 19:43

Please don't forget nokia 6630.

Eremita 9. May 2008, 20:02

Backspace-button doesn't work with Nokia E90 Communicator on the inner keyboard :frown: I hope it works with the final version of Opera Mini 4.1.

Furie 9. May 2008, 20:11

Did you bug report it Eremita?

Eremita 9. May 2008, 20:28

No.. I'd rather use Opera mobile 8.65 (symbian version), but navikeys doesn't work with E90 :D so I'll wait for 9.50 beta if it would fix the problem.

Furie 9. May 2008, 20:34

You n me both. :D

jaiprasad54 10. May 2008, 05:49

i hope OM 4.1 Final version will with download manager(save function works with resume support)

cheboncruz 10. May 2008, 07:01

I hope they make the download capabilities of opera more simple.I always have an error warning.

Qasibr 10. May 2008, 09:01

I'm hoping we get some more unbelievably neat features in the final release, over and above the 150 bugfixes.

bm.riyadh 10. May 2008, 14:30

Unfortunately, Opera Mini Improved No doubt but Out look does not improved. The 2.00 was very neat&clean and fast (fast means scrolling/key strokes not server!)

I hope this final version will be smooth looking and fast!

tinhoy 10. May 2008, 20:27

"Find in page does not work in Bookmarks page" ... yes! Thank you very much. The "bug" reporting process works  As for strange phones, fingers crossed that the OM gods had time to take pity on Sprint users.

sansheet 11. May 2008, 05:47

Gre888:happy:

ronieith761 11. May 2008, 08:02

Adhammagdy 11. May 2008, 10:16

4-ability to play background music in webpages
*5-pause and resume in download
6-audible alerts for errors etc.
7-fix redirection problems
8-allow user to edit and organise commands in commands menu
9-zoom in and out of page with different values
10-ability to change page encoding
11-ability to enter and edit text directly in text fields without opening the text editor

algarcia 11. May 2008, 21:11

what about the skins? i loved on previous versions when we could change the red skin so the black one! is that ever coming back?

Furie 11. May 2008, 21:29

Adham, check out Help in the tools for one of your most important suggestions. Some of the others are way too much for a small java program to handle though.

Zencom 11. May 2008, 21:50

Good work! Thanks for luxury surf everywhere.....

Qasibr 12. May 2008, 02:26

Yeah Adham, it'd be very useful if mini could do all those things, but some of them would be impossible or very very hard for Opera to do.

For example, active-x controls. It'd be very useful if plugins like flash, quicktime, or java web applets could work, but J2ME, the platform on which Mini runs, wouldn't be capable of supporting all this. Opera could do something server-side, but that would require alot of overhead and would be hard to develop. Opera would have to make a server-side interpretter that would understand all kinds of active-x plugins and then convert them into something light enough to work over limited bandwidth and for the client to process. And given the number of users mini's got, Opera would need a much bigger server-side platform to support this.

Maybe opera mini 9 or something.

Furie 12. May 2008, 06:39

*imagines what phone he'll be using by the time Opera Mini 9 comes out*
Cool! It makes coffee.

Adhammagdy 12. May 2008, 08:24

Thank you all for your comments on my suggestions & i'd like to tell that i'm not an expert in all this technical stuff so i may have suggested some impossible things ,thanks again and goodbye and operamini is the best :D

Twizo07 12. May 2008, 19:56

Awesome dudes!!! Your simply the best!;-)

sansheet 13. May 2008, 05:05

Downloading is resumable

bm.riyadh 13. May 2008, 05:13

Adhams,
Your suggestions were great If even 50% of them is implemented OM will become our dream mobile browser.

Adhammagdy 13. May 2008, 06:22

Hello! I'm back
I have a Nokia 5200 & it doesn't allow receiving .JAR & .JAD files & saving them with OM they're automatically renamed to .EXT & can't rename them back so I need 2 use mobile native browser 2 download java files & it installs them automatically...can U try 2 make OM install apps automatically? Or someone can tell me if my device has a problem & how 2 deal with it?

(It doesn't also receive apps by bluetooth)
Thank U
  :frown: :D

atlasopera 13. May 2008, 06:37

dhiaa_hhh 13. May 2008, 08:34

Hi thank you for the team of opera mini..Thats great..But i have suggest i can't take picture in my phone like opera mini3.And the picture i hope it be big..Thank you again.

vishwaskrishna 13. May 2008, 08:38

Opera 4.1 beta is good. Better than my in built opera 8. But may be next time you could try and add tabbed browsing feature. And save page doesn't work in motorokr z6, though it works in my in built browser. Good work OM team, there have been lot of improvements since opera 2, all the best.

vishwaskrishna 13. May 2008, 08:39

When exactly will you release the final version of 4.1?

SwankArthur 20. May 2008, 14:06

That's great, esp. direct up-and downloading function. All works perfect on my SE K810i. But is it really so hard to make such things as animated GIFs look properly etc.? The built-in browser allows all of that kind. Thanks though, already anticipating further OMs with something new and surprising!

mackie30001 20. May 2008, 18:11

there isnt a version for motorola v360

abdulbiqbal 23. May 2008, 11:03

There are few problems while saving large files

w1shbone77 23. May 2008, 23:29

I get same pages repeated quite often.I'm not sure if this will appear on comments or if i'll be returned to submit comment, soon find out.I like operamini4 when it works,it's fast and the upload is handy, but it's rare that it works for more than10minutes before probs kick in on my se.I use operamini 3.1 works perfect with se w810i only downside is that it doesn't access my phones files

sandeshsirsi 2. September 2008, 04:05

Opera mini the best browser, but we are having some competators like teashark browser. We need to fix them

tsants 4. December 2008, 04:33

it's great i wish:cool:

Furie 4. December 2008, 04:49

In what world was Teashark ever a competitor?
