Server Upgrade to 4.10.404

The Mini server team released a new version of the Opera Mini server
today. The highlights of this release include:

  • fixes for font sizes on some sites
  • optimization of bitmap fonts on low-memory phones
  • faster JavaScript dialogs
  • some download fixes
  • fixes for lots of "clicking just reloads" problems
  • improved the layout of feeds in mobile view
  • site-specific fixes

Even though we put lot of energy in making sites work better, there
remain some not yet solved bugs, most notably in the Desktop version
of Facebook. We're working on them, but had to postpone them to avoid
delaying this release.

As usual, there is no need to make any manual changes to benefit from
a server upgrade. Enjoy using Mini!

Great!

Racket 8. June 2009, 14:54

Guessing this is why if I go to my rss feeds now any site I visit thereafter is no longer in mobile view even if its set up for that in my settings.

Valgrind 8. June 2009, 15:01

Racket: That seems to be a new intermittent bug we introduced. Unfortunately QA didn't catch it because it happends... sometimes.

We are working on tracking that one down now.

Racket 8. June 2009, 15:05

Thats cool, thank you for the quick reply Valgrind

tomassplatch 8. June 2009, 15:12

I noticed changed font on some sites, they are thinner and look much better. thank you!

Valgrind 8. June 2009, 15:28

Got a 100% reproducable test case now. Thanks for the report. There will probably not be a fix today, but you should be able to work around it by pressing "1", choosing desktop mode, and then switch back to mobile.

Racket 8. June 2009, 15:56

Thanks again

Yea thats how I've been getting around the mobile view problem so far.

Also noticed that on a few sites that if there's already text in a text box, like if I want to reply to someone on a forum quoting their message, after the reply page loads I can see their text in the reply box, but if I click on it to type my own text, anything that was in it before is gone.

Doesn't wipe it clean for all text boxes but it does happen everytime I try to do the example I gave.

blueaqua 8. June 2009, 16:21

Thanks so much for all the hard work guys and the server upgrade,i love using opera mini.

djngoma 8. June 2009, 16:27

Thanx for the update but as Racket said before, the text boxes filled with text seem to appear empty if you try to i.e. Reply to forum posts with a quote. So I'm kind of screwed now as I use the quote option quite a bit.

prking 8. June 2009, 16:53

Thanks for the update, its great to see things happening.

Furie 8. June 2009, 19:09

 This just keeps getting better.

tinhoy 9. June 2009, 01:32

Thanks! Twitter reverting to the smaller font size is great.

Still can't tweet in Standard Twitter web interface though :frown: Can actually enter a tweet and click the Update button, but then it doesn't actually update.

dasmysts 9. June 2009, 04:23

how do I download updates/upgrades?

morav 9. June 2009, 04:54

When, opera mini 5?

Secaundis 9. June 2009, 05:18

Textbox is empty!

prking 9. June 2009, 06:29

Can confirm, text boxes which already contain text, lose the text when you enter them. Hopefully can be easily fixed.

SAGRID 9. June 2009, 11:22

Well, 320 was with bigger fonts 404 with smaller and 416 with what?

4EZ 9. June 2009, 11:56

a server upgrade. Enjoy using Mini!

gsenarcl 9. June 2009, 15:37

@mobile view issue: it will be fixed as part of the next server release, though we don't have a schedule for that yet.

Alex74Ale 9. June 2009, 18:09

Since two days I can't access the ordered by date RSS feeds page, as the connection to the server results expired. I tried to use as Wi-fi as GPRS web access. Does anyone meet the same problem?

Just signed up after seeing a thread about opera mini on sprintusers.com. I was stoked when I could get the Drudge report and a few other sites. But I was bummed that I cant get yahoo mail. But Opera beats my SPH-M520 Browser by a mile. I would like to have more control in my settings though. Thank you for all your hard work.

Furie 19. June 2009, 11:22

Does anyone actually read these posts? Three tiny paragraphs and one list. That's all there is to it. :bomb:

theoddbod 20. June 2009, 18:07

Nah, they just see the word 'upgrade' and look for a download link

chilibowl 21. June 2009, 02:53

we read them.

Furie 21. June 2009, 04:09

Yeah, but you're hunting for beer at the time so we don't expect you to read it. Even so you aren't one of the many who insist on asking for a download link when the post clearly states no new download is needed.

nareem786 21. June 2009, 15:05

Hey thats really super:-) thanx for the effort
