Opera Mini Blog

Server Upgrade to 4.11.458

The global Mini cluster was upgraded by the server team Monday evening CET. The main improvements include:

  • enhanced site compatibility
  • a fix for pages with internal links
  • improved synchronization
  • binary files are always offered for download

Since JavaScript site patches are used to improve site compatibility, an enhancement allowing developers to bypass those patches has been included. The setting is available when entering the "config:" URL, but should always be enabled for normal usage.

All users automatically benefit from the upgrade (no manual change is needed, though it is possible to check the server version using the "debug:" URL).

Happy surfing!

You wanna find out when it's out then subscribe to this blog or mine or one of the hundreds that are mobile related. This one will have the download link. No-one's gonna e-mail it to you.

Opera Mini is only at version 4.2 at the moment. Any further versions with higher numbers are hacked fake versions, some of which have the ability to store your passwords and bank data for future use by the people who hacked the program.

foxxirider 22. July 2009, 16:49

thats good to know furie...thank u for posting that...about the fake opera browsers..
this uprade certinally gave it more speed..WOW faster than my cable modem..i am an internet junky..gotta have my fix..lol. this makes it totally awsome.

The Dark Furie 22. July 2009, 21:46

Basically, if it ain't at the official Opera Mini site, it's probably a fake.

foxxirider 23. July 2009, 02:34

having an issue...every time i try to upload something from my phone i get a message saying i should use a signed version..is there an opera mini signed version?

The Dark Furie 23. July 2009, 08:07

Yeah but your phone may not support it. When you go to download Mini click to try other versions and go for the multi-signed version.

gravios 23. July 2009, 12:13

How to disable that unsigned version notification. I cant save .jar file to my phone. It is downloaded by my default phone browser and installed directly right after download completed. Thanx. Great job by opera.

The Dark Furie 23. July 2009, 12:36

Its the same on the signed version. Your best bet is to download jar files within another browser or in a ZIP file.

foxxirider 23. July 2009, 16:45

the unsigned opera works great on my phone so why wouldnt the signed version work the same?..how much trust can be put into the unsigned version as far as granting access when downloading? is it the same as signed one? when i download, my default browser dosnt pop up..opera handels it.
have a wonderful day my opera friends..

The Dark Furie 23. July 2009, 17:03

If Opera can download and upload then you're using the signed version.

foxxirider 24. July 2009, 02:23

then i dont understand why it sugests to use sined version when i download...i looked for settings to allow access without asking everytime i connect...can not find it..
where would i find the settings? only ones i have are in the menu on start page of opera mini.

The Dark Furie 24. July 2009, 02:41

If I remember rightly that warning only comes up when you're about to choose where in your phone to download something to. It's there for all versions as part of the program so they don't have to reprogram two versions with each update, and can't be turned off.

Signing the application is like pinning on a badge and doesn't change the program but does allow access to other functions of the phone (think of it like those wristbands that cheap clubs use to allow VIP room access) such as the downloading/uploading abilities.

foxxirider 24. July 2009, 12:08

ok..thanks. that makes sense.
and another thing..when launching opera and type in the url.. a note pops up saying 'untrusted application Opera Mini wants to send or recieve info from //server4.operamini.com:1080 This will use airtime which may cost u money.' I click yes. and next screen says 'allow net access? then choice to ask next session or next time.'
is there a way to turn this off?

idillsr 24. July 2009, 12:58

I LOVE OPERAMINI FULL

The Dark Furie 24. July 2009, 22:19

What phone are you using? A lot have similar messages.

foxxirider 24. July 2009, 23:57

the moto q 9c. its not on the list of supported phones but works great on mine.

The Dark Furie 25. July 2009, 10:21

I really couldn't tell you. Motorola is one of the few companies I don't bother to keep up with, as their OS's are all over the place.

Spc 25. July 2009, 20:52

Why does Opera Mini still have so many "clicking just reloads" problems? Since some recent update even links in Google search results often just reload and I have to click such a link 5-7 times to make Opera follow it. Also it's very hard to use BBC's bbc.co.uk main page: Opera Mini often loads wrong links.

Another annoying problem is that when I click "Open image" on various MediaWiki-powered sites, including Wikipedia, Opera Mini just loads the same one-colored placeholder, centered on white background, without buttons to save or resize it.

foxxirider 26. July 2009, 02:20

@furi
i did some searchin in my phone...found all the signitures..not too many bugs..just some sites where i type my password dont change to **** it just shows the letters and numbers i type..but overall i LOVE OPERA MINI.!!! been telling all my family n friends about it...
  awsome work opera peeps

gravios 26. July 2009, 09:31

I can change my phone user agent to Nokia supported phone. Im tried to download OM signed version
When I go to download section my phone was identifed as supported nokia phone. But when download was about to start it is said 504 error if Im not mistaken. What is happened ? Thanx.

The Dark Furie 26. July 2009, 09:53

If you've got an unsupported phone and you fake it being a supported phone you'll be able to fool the website, but it wont magically make the application work.

ntrnsyx 31. July 2009, 01:08

Will a signed version of OM work on my LG LOTUS LX600 polaris infraware 6.01? I have OM4.2 now. Like the browser, want the problem gone.

richard 31. July 2009, 02:51

I love the opera mini browser so much, but the problem is that most of the time i find it difficult to access my yahoo account because i end up getting a blank page when i try to sign in.Then secondly the google search page doesn't work, but the other search engines like ebay and the rest works.

dupel 31. July 2009, 09:18

Opera mini recently was updated, can someone tell us what were the changes? (the build number got higher).

Opera browser is best than opera mini

The Dark Furie 4. August 2009, 19:40

Doesn't work so well on phones though. However Mini works on PC as well so Mini's better.

@ Samualjacobs2, opera upgrades its self..you do not have to do anything..

The Dark Furie 7. August 2009, 20:29

When you've said that for the thousandth time in the comments of a post that states that, you'll be raging against illiteracy.

Daniel richard cox 8. August 2009, 10:14

Hay fury my phone is on default and i still can't seem to get a pic on my profiles can you please assist me .my e-mail is danika0722@att.net

The Dark Furie 8. August 2009, 12:17

It happens occasionally that your default browser and Mini both wont upload for you. Nothing can be done then except to get someone else to do it for you.

foxxirider 9. August 2009, 18:44

i promise i wont post that again fury..lol. i sure do wish peopld would learn how to follow the rules in this forum..im sure it gets very old trying to tell some people to READ...USE SEARCH...seek and u will find what ur looking for.
have a great week furie..and the rest of the opera community.

Tanx om team. Gud work. Kip it up

foxxirider 15. August 2009, 19:06

im having a problem with my e-mail accounts and myspace. when i acess them through my phone, the message box on myspace, and the compose section of e-mail will not let me type anything. the only e-mail account i can type in is yahoo. is it a bug? anyone else haveing this problem? thank you. have a great day. :o:)

The Dark Furie 15. August 2009, 21:01

Opera Mini can only do so much. If sites don't get designed with a thought to mobile usage there's not much can be done. Can you click on the text fields or are they just not there? Some sites have started using Flash based text fields that can't be selected via most mobile browsers.

The Dark Furie 15. August 2009, 21:03

Having said that, a server error once caused the majority of text fields not to render on Mini, which made it difficult for us to report the problem. It may be that. If so it's temporary.

foxxirider 16. August 2009, 12:43

the txt box on myspace is blue with a thin white line across the middle.. its where the txt is supposed to go but not able to click it to open it for typeing. as for e-mail, i click on compose and it just takes me to top of inbox..no biggie..just wanted to know if anyone else had same problem.
thank you furie..

Patrichea 21. August 2009, 11:56

Zface 25. August 2009, 07:29
