I have a samsung GT-C3053 and its a wonderfull phone. opera mini 5 works to the point of downloading it and installing it, but it does not load. the logo is a bit large at start up, but then right before it completes loading. the phone goes off. my phones screen resolution is 132x176. if only opera 5 could identify that. i don't think my phone would have any of such problems... please fix this.

I'm liking opera mini 5 so far, but theres one feature i'm sure everyone would like to see, the sliding bar things on drop down menus! On getjar.com I found a mobile web browser called BOLT & tried it out- very slow and unresponsive- not a patch on opera BUT i noticed on facebook when tagging photos it brings up a drop down where you scroll thru to select which friends you want to tag, the slide bars to scroll down work perfectly on bolt but on opera those bars aren't even there its frozen and you can only select the first few friends. take a look at this please guys as its really an essential feature for any web browser and i'd love to see it implemented on opera mini in future. thanks!

Great work people!! Though I wish you would include a document reader for pdf, doc and ppt files though. I still have to download these and attach them to an email to read!

Manoj Thakur 21. October 2009, 12:20

Opera 5 beta is the best but there are some features missing which were available in 4.2. Copy & paste function is very good. Can u make available the function of reading pdf files in original opera mini 5 coz my university's results comes in pdf format but I can't read them because I have no pdf reader software on my phone. Plz make sure to bring this function in original om5.

iieugenio 22. October 2009, 09:14

I'm using Nokia E63. When I press the spacebar while typing in a text field, it always results to 3 spaces. Spacebar works fine everywhere else.

I'd also like to request the option to save images to the phone directly from the browser. Thanks

Ronald 23. October 2009, 07:10

When i copy text and paste it opera mini 5 exits by itself!

Hoping there is an available Opera mini that has 24568 navigation keys in lieu of using the D-stick. My D-stick sometime gets damage when always been used.

Here is my feedback about my experience with Opera Mini 5 beta on my Samsung Omnia I (SGH-i900) using Jbed 20090416.5.1:
- Copy/Paste functionality: very good idea but bad implementation: I am not able to paste in Opera Mini something that I have copied to clipboard outside Opera Mini (like from Word Mobile). This makes the copy/paste implementation useless for me. It seems for me that the copy/paste functionality in Opera Mini is not integrated with the Windows Mobile clipboard.
- It would be very good a context menu item that says "Select All" in edit mode in order to select all the text from a text area editor easily (so that you can deleted it easy and replace it with something else or copy it to "clipboard").
- Often when I read my emails in Yahoo classic, I cannot select a single email row in inbox, but rather it selects somehow the whole table with email rows and goes to next page with emails. This did not happen on Opera Mini 4.2. I have the same problem when I try to move an email from a folder to another folder: it displays the popup menu correctly (to choose the destination folder), but I can only select the whole menu (I cannot select a menu entry). Before (in Opera Mini 4.2) I could select a menu entry and execute the movement of emails between folders.
- The support for DHTML/Javascript is still poor: on some sites (like monster.co.uk - not the mobile version) I cannot see almost anything of whole page.

You may be wondering why I put this feedback for sites about which perhaps some people would think that I should use instead their mobile versions. Well, the mobile versions of many sites (including the above ones) are too poor and lacking in functionality compared with their "desktop" sites and I want all the functionality. Besides nowadays, in a world where more and more people use smart phones and do browsing from them, this is becoming little by little the defacto way of browsing, so mobile browser producers should try to create browsers that support and can render full blown DHTML and Javascript pages and having full copy/paste functionality and so on (just like a desktop browser).

These are my expectations from a mobile browser!

Tejas Jadhav 28. October 2009, 20:21

well it's not working on my samsung s3500, i think due to its high memory features. it suddenly closes during installation.

nminhcuong 29. October 2009, 11:20

I've created a shortcut but I can't change it.

The Dark Furie 30. October 2009, 02:15

That's a common java management problem on Nokia phones.

Jared G. Pinayao 31. October 2009, 04:05

Hey! The beta version is not available on my nokia 6600. Please have it available.

valentinbrasov 31. October 2009, 17:46

Yet another bug discovered: on sites that allow you to update files like jobserve.co.uk, it displays correctly the upload text box and the upload button near it, but I CANNOT select the upload button only: it selects both the text field and the button! So I cannot get the open file dialog in order to select a file to be uploaded! This was working in Opera Mini 4.2...!

robert wilson 31. October 2009, 21:11

where's the android version?

The Dark Furie 31. October 2009, 22:37

There isn't one at the moment I think.

Ronald 31. October 2009, 22:53

i concur with theleftykid, it would indeed be nice if we could do all navigation and selection using 25846. if you have a sony ericsson then you must be familiar with those common joystick malfunctions! i threw my last phone on the wall that way (sic).

One more thing, could you make the scrollbar just a little bit more visible, i like to know how much scrolling i still have to the bottom of the page and please please please do something about that document reader. I'd love opera mini to open pdf and doc files instead of asking to download.

Andre Jonsson 2. November 2009, 11:41

This looks to be a great improvement of the Opera Mini!

But, as many have commented on, it's not perfect. And nothing is.
However, I'd like to vote for the inclusion of my favourite features:
* Create search (from any search form on a page)
* T9 typing
* Open link in new tab, is it possible?

Another thing that annoyed me that special function keys' standard function has been completely side-stepped. I have a SonyEricsson Z610i and, for example, the back key now has no function whatsoever. The same goes for many of the other ones - forgot details, and I've already uninstalled the beta *shame on me*.

Anyhow... great work, keep it up!

That's a Java limitation, and not really something Opera Mini can do anything about.

The support for DHTML/Javascript is still poor

Opera Mini has full support for JavaScript, but Ajax is somewhat limited due to the way Mini works (everything needs to go through a server).

cosmofur 10. November 2009, 15:36

Using on blackbery.
I like most of the changes but as its beta there are still some issues.
Only the 'small' font works right, larger fonts get clipped.
I really miss 'space' for next page. '8' works but not as easy to use on bb keyboard.
Cut and paste are great, wish that it worked more like the cut and past of other applications though. That is if your in the edit mode of the address bar, it would be better if the menu button worked with the option of pasting without eraseing the existing text. The current 'all or nothing' and being outside 'edit mode' is just odd.
The linkage to the bb email is good idea but needs some help with the url parcer. Goggle alerts email sends urls that contain a second http:// inside the parameter part and opera get confused by this.
(And due to the odd way opera does cut and paste I can't work around this by pasting the url into opera in two parts)

animeshaga 10. November 2009, 17:53

hey
I used Opera mini 4.2 on my HTC tattoo. This is a 240x320 screen, so i coudlnt get the app. from android market. But the app worked fine.
I was also able to run opera mini 5 java on the same Android phone

PLEASE port opera mini5 to android, and make sure it says that it can support 240x320.... cause it does

The Dark Furie 10. November 2009, 19:42

If it comes to Android (and I can't see why it wouldn't) it'll probably be a beta after the final version is out.

stef07 11. November 2009, 17:36

but what about the usual phone?they will be left behind?om5 does not work in my sam e250.it seems that om4.2 is the last browser from opera for usual phones.so i will search for another companies wich can make a better browser for them

The Dark Furie 12. November 2009, 10:56

The final version isn't out yet so you may be pleasantly surprised when it arrives. Mini 4's beta versions didn't work well on my phones but the final version did.

On the suggestion of good people of Opera at Web 2.0 NY I downloaded Opera Mini 5 successfully on my Blackberry Curve.
Unfortunately, I cannot enjoy it as when I got to the 'Eula' agreement, the 'Accept' key is invisible.
I checked the solutions on 'Support Pages' but have not found a remedy.
Wanna help me get past that Speed Bump, e-mail me at sls at njconcierges dot com

Does my phone nokia N70 supports opera mini 5. Please someone clarify. I have tried the download several time but failed.

1. There should be an option to cal out the basic text editor in the inline text editor like the boltc browser
2.Important thing is the sync option should be present at any cost
3.Saved pages from older versions should show up.
4.One bad thing that it doesnt support downloading. It switches to the basic browser.
Rest of the all newly introduced features are awesome.

1. You can do that already, it's in the Settings.
2. It will be present (or should be) in the final version.
3. Not sure if this is possible, because that depends on if you're able to perform an upgrade install. Because OM is a Java app, the results will vary from mobile-mobile.
4. Again, this is a beta version and so it isn't feature complete - basically, it's too early to comment whether this would be included or not in the final version.

Personally, I like the idea of switching to the basic browser for downloading, so that means external download managers can take over, or when the basic browser is downloading, I can continue to surf the web in Opera Mini. In previous versions, you couldn't download and surf at the same time..

Also, it means that there's lesser load on the OM servers - imagine millions of people downloading large files through OM's servers.. Besides, there's no point in downloading through OM, as most downloads on the web are already compressed (eg, MP3 or ZIP/RAR files, or installers..) so you won't get any faster speeds.

Dear Opera Mini Team,

First, thanks for a great product. Has been a fan since v2.0.

I have tried Opera 5 beta on my N97 mini but since it seems to use up a lot of resources, I have moved back to Opera 4.2. N97 mini cannot use Opera 5 together with the Music Player streaming music to my bluetooth headset without slowing down significantly. And it crashes once in awhile as well.

As for the user interface, I have several comments. I used to use the Nokia E71, and the ability to scroll up and down quickly with the actual navigation keys on Opera Mini with one hand is a big advantage. However, with the new touch screen device, it is impossible to do so. I believe one way to solve the problem is to implement a virtual navigation key on the screen (kinda like GMail does to its Gmail Java app, but please don't make the side bar as huge as the Gmail virtual navigation keys). With all the additional screen area, an additional side bar with "up" "down" "left" and "right" touch keys can be added on the side in landscape mode (and customizable by the user to be either left or right side to suit left or right hand usage). And similarly, the navigation bar can be added to the bottom if the phone is being used on portrait mode. This allows the user to operate Opera Mini one handed and scroll down line by line or page by page quickly.

Further more, the current bottom task bar can be improved by allowing the user to customize. It take 2 touch to get to bookmarks. I think for many users, bookmarks are the most used key. Why 2 presses and not 1? Why not just let the user to customize their favorite functions to be readily available. This can be extended to the abovementioned side bar recommendation and allows the user to add and delete shortcuts.

Hope my recommendations get implemented in the final version.

thanks

Please bring back RSS feed..I have been using it since Opera Mini 3.0

I can download and install fine, but when license agreement comes up, i cannot accept, i can only scroll but no button lets me 'accept'. very annoying, if i scroll down to the bottom the cursor just won't reach the accept button either. anybody else also have this issue? i have a samsung u900 soul.

The Dark Furie 6. December 2009, 22:28

Use the soft keys. Left I think.

Cois 7. December 2009, 16:03

Left yeah.

Cts 8. December 2009, 15:06

I seem to have a crashing issue (auto exit) when entering text strings into message board dialogue boxes. (Like this one). It only seems to happen when I am accessing a box wit a large amount of text already in it (responding w/quote) or when I enter a long response. I am assuming that this is some sort of memory issue.? For reference I am using a blackberry 8320.

Sandesh 8. December 2009, 16:27

superb work by the opera team. i have a wishlist. that the full site of new orkut i.e. www.orkut.com should be rendered. now the page is always half open.

Bob 13. December 2009, 22:55

Installed Mini 5 on my Samsung Instinct. It has been working fine so far. I can't say it is faster than previous versions but it is far better than the browser that comes with the phone.
