As you know, we've been working on this version for quite a while. When you see the end result, we're sure you'll think the waiting was worthwhile. To download, go to http://m.opera.com/next, but please note that phone support for the new version may vary.
Some key features:
- New, sleek design
- Tabbed browsing
- Password manager
- Inline text editing
- Copy-and-paste function
- We have made a special, native version for BlackBerry which includes opening links and copy-and-paste functions

I'd also like to request the option to save images to the phone directly from the browser. Thanks

- Copy/Paste functionality: very good idea but bad implementation: I am not able to paste in Opera Mini something that I have copied to clipboard outside Opera Mini (like from Word Mobile). This makes the copy/paste implementation useless for me. It seems for me that the copy/paste functionality in Opera Mini is not integrated with the Windows Mobile clipboard.
- It would be very good a context menu item that says "Select All" in edit mode in order to select all the text from a text area editor easily (so that you can deleted it easy and replace it with something else or copy it to "clipboard").
- Often when I read my emails in Yahoo classic, I cannot select a single email row in inbox, but rather it selects somehow the whole table with email rows and goes to next page with emails. This did not happen on Opera Mini 4.2. I have the same problem when I try to move an email from a folder to another folder: it displays the popup menu correctly (to choose the destination folder), but I can only select the whole menu (I cannot select a menu entry). Before (in Opera Mini 4.2) I could select a menu entry and execute the movement of emails between folders.
- The support for DHTML/Javascript is still poor: on some sites (like monster.co.uk - not the mobile version) I cannot see almost anything of whole page.
You may be wondering why I put this feedback for sites about which perhaps some people would think that I should use instead their mobile versions. Well, the mobile versions of many sites (including the above ones) are too poor and lacking in functionality compared with their "desktop" sites and I want all the functionality. Besides nowadays, in a world where more and more people use smart phones and do browsing from them, this is becoming little by little the defacto way of browsing, so mobile browser producers should try to create browsers that support and can render full blown DHTML and Javascript pages and having full copy/paste functionality and so on (just like a desktop browser).
These are my expectations from a mobile browser!

One more thing, could you make the scrollbar just a little bit more visible, i like to know how much scrolling i still have to the bottom of the page and please please please do something about that document reader. I'd love opera mini to open pdf and doc files instead of asking to download.

But, as many have commented on, it's not perfect. And nothing is.
However, I'd like to vote for the inclusion of my favourite features:
* Create search (from any search form on a page)
* T9 typing
* Open link in new tab, is it possible?
Another thing that annoyed me that special function keys' standard function has been completely side-stepped. I have a SonyEricsson Z610i and, for example, the back key now has no function whatsoever. The same goes for many of the other ones - forgot details, and I've already uninstalled the beta *shame on me*.
Anyhow... great work, keep it up!

I like most of the changes but as its beta there are still some issues.
Only the 'small' font works right, larger fonts get clipped.
I really miss 'space' for next page. '8' works but not as easy to use on bb keyboard.
Cut and paste are great, wish that it worked more like the cut and past of other applications though. That is if your in the edit mode of the address bar, it would be better if the menu button worked with the option of pasting without eraseing the existing text. The current 'all or nothing' and being outside 'edit mode' is just odd.
The linkage to the bb email is good idea but needs some help with the url parcer. Goggle alerts email sends urls that contain a second http:// inside the parameter part and opera get confused by this.
(And due to the odd way opera does cut and paste I can't work around this by pasting the url into opera in two parts)

I used Opera mini 4.2 on my HTC tattoo. This is a 240x320 screen, so i coudlnt get the app. from android market. But the app worked fine.
I was also able to run opera mini 5 java on the same Android phone
PLEASE port opera mini5 to android, and make sure it says that it can support 240x320.... cause it does

Unfortunately, I cannot enjoy it as when I got to the 'Eula' agreement, the 'Accept' key is invisible.
I checked the solutions on 'Support Pages' but have not found a remedy.
Wanna help me get past that Speed Bump, e-mail me at sls at njconcierges dot com
Merci

2.Important thing is the sync option should be present at any cost
3.Saved pages from older versions should show up.
4.One bad thing that it doesnt support downloading. It switches to the basic browser.
Rest of the all newly introduced features are awesome.

1. You can do that already, it's in the Settings.
2. It will be present (or should be) in the final version.
3. Not sure if this is possible, because that depends on if you're able to perform an upgrade install. Because OM is a Java app, the results will vary from mobile-mobile.
4. Again, this is a beta version and so it isn't feature complete - basically, it's too early to comment whether this would be included or not in the final version.
Personally, I like the idea of switching to the basic browser for downloading, so that means external download managers can take over, or when the basic browser is downloading, I can continue to surf the web in Opera Mini. In previous versions, you couldn't download and surf at the same time..
Also, it means that there's lesser load on the OM servers - imagine millions of people downloading large files through OM's servers.. Besides, there's no point in downloading through OM, as most downloads on the web are already compressed (eg, MP3 or ZIP/RAR files, or installers..) so you won't get any faster speeds.

First, thanks for a great product. Has been a fan since v2.0.
I have tried Opera 5 beta on my N97 mini but since it seems to use up a lot of resources, I have moved back to Opera 4.2. N97 mini cannot use Opera 5 together with the Music Player streaming music to my bluetooth headset without slowing down significantly. And it crashes once in awhile as well.
As for the user interface, I have several comments. I used to use the Nokia E71, and the ability to scroll up and down quickly with the actual navigation keys on Opera Mini with one hand is a big advantage. However, with the new touch screen device, it is impossible to do so. I believe one way to solve the problem is to implement a virtual navigation key on the screen (kinda like GMail does to its Gmail Java app, but please don't make the side bar as huge as the Gmail virtual navigation keys). With all the additional screen area, an additional side bar with "up" "down" "left" and "right" touch keys can be added on the side in landscape mode (and customizable by the user to be either left or right side to suit left or right hand usage). And similarly, the navigation bar can be added to the bottom if the phone is being used on portrait mode. This allows the user to operate Opera Mini one handed and scroll down line by line or page by page quickly.
Further more, the current bottom task bar can be improved by allowing the user to customize. It take 2 touch to get to bookmarks. I think for many users, bookmarks are the most used key. Why 2 presses and not 1? Why not just let the user to customize their favorite functions to be readily available. This can be extended to the abovementioned side bar recommendation and allows the user to add and delete shortcuts.
Hope my recommendations get implemented in the final version.
thanks
