Opera Mini 5 beta now available for Android
By Per Thomas Jahrperthomas. Thursday, March 11, 2010 8:23:03 AM
morning Opera Mini 5 beta was released for Android. It's available now
in the Android Market!
Android users can now enjoy the benefits of the Opera Mini 5 beta user
experience, and data compression technology.
Opera's compression technology reduces data transfered up to 90
percent. This results in significantly improved page-loading speed,
especially when outside 3G coverage or on crowded 3G or WiFi networks.
Dramatically reduced data load can also translate to lower browsing
costs when on a pay-per-MB data plan or when on expensive roaming.
Language support is currently English only. Additional language
support will be included in future releases.
Download Opera Mini 5 beta by visiting m.opera.com/next with the
Android browser or search for Opera Mini 5 in the Android Market.
As always, we welcome your feedback in our forum, and please report any bugs in our bug report wizard. Thanks!
Best Regards,
The Opera Mini team

I can confirm this behavior on my T-Mobile G2 Touch (a.k.a. HTC Hero).
Also, I'd like to see the transferred data volumes during page load like in Opera Mini 4.2.

Yup, same here on my Hero. The Speed Dial links though. What gives?
As a request to the team.. when you've zoomed in on a section of text, scrolling up and down is 'looser' than on the default browser. As in, it's pretty easy to accidentally scroll to the side when doing so. On the default browser, it snaps to that column pretty good, making you actually have to drag deliberately to shift away. Any way you could tighten this up?
Secondly, I'd love it if you added the Bookmarks heart button between the address bar and the search box. Then it'd be perfect.
Great job. Thanks!
