Opera Mini 5.1 for Windows Mobile is here!

The long-awaited Opera Mini 5.1 for Windows Phone 6.5, Windows Mobile 6, Windows Mobile 5, and Windows Mobile 2003 based handsets has finally arrived. We have worked days and nights to improve on every aspect of the browser. Some highlights include default browser functionality and support for more devices. A big thanks to all our users on Windows Mobile who have waited so patiently for this release.

What's new in Opera Mini 5.1 for Windows Mobile?
  • Ability to set Opera Mini as default browser on the device.
  • Support for g-sensor screen rotation on HTC and Samsung devices.
  • Support for predictive input if the device supports it natively.
  • Improved page layout on high-resolution screens.
  • Improved kinetic scrolling.
  • Alternative installer that works on Windows Mobile 2003 Pocket PC devices.
  • Text input works on many more devices.
  • A host of bug fixes in Opera Mini browser core for stability and rendering accuracy.

To download Opera Mini 5.1 for Windows Mobile handsets visit http://m.opera.com/ on your phone.

Great! Smooth scrolling is nice.
But there are some problems:
1. sometimes menu it's slow, there was also one freeze on my HTC Diamond 2 that only hardreset solved
2. www.engadget.com isn't working ("oops" logo)

First impressions so far are very good. Scrolling is noticeably waaay smoother and sensitive compared to 5 beta . Font on large setting is a little small but maybe I can change some registry settings for that . Web pages seem to be a bit slower than 5 b , but the page rendering seems to be truer to desktop . Some have said to be having issues with word wrap. So far im not having these issues and word wrap seems to be as good as 5 beta and pretty much all opera browsers ive tested , except for 10 ( which I never really used) . Im using a HTC Touch Pro 2 running 6 . 1 . One last thing, I cant seem to get into engadget. com for some reason . I tested on other browsers even 5 beta , and they work just fine. Will continue testing .

@Superdurt No idea, I only know that Toshiba Folio 100 tablet will have it preinstalled.

Opera mini 5.1 disappointed me. Because this version and version 5 cannot correctly display a Japanese font.

Any progress on Opera Mini for iOS4/iPhone 4?

Openletter Friday, September 17, 2010 2:58:50 PM

I still find it worse to browse with than version 4. Many websites now know that I am browsing with my phone (BlackBerry 9000). Tis means that they give me a wonderful simple text display. But Mini now make browsing these pages a lousy experience because it insists on using a mouse cursor.

With the change to using a cursor on mobile site, Mini is now officially worse to use than the built in browser. It was incredibly nice to quickly flick around on pages with the trackball whereas now I have to move a cursor that feels like it's stuck in the mud. I can't imagine why anyone at Opera felt this to be an improved experience.
