Get ready for a new beta version of Opera Mini 4
By Johan Schönjohansch. Tuesday, August 28, 2007 5:54:41 PM
Since we released the first beta of Opera Mini 4 (codenamed Dimension) in June, we’ve been working hard on squashing bugs, boosting performance, and adding more features in order to make browsing on Opera Mini even more enjoyable.I wanted to give you all a heads up on our upcoming plans.
We are set to release the second beta of Opera Mini 4 on Thursday, August 30th. This beta includes many bug fixes, significantly improved support for Blackberry phones, support for additional phones, and new features (which we hope will enhance your browsing experience).
We have a lot of new goodies to show off, some of them by popular request and others being completely new and innovative. Check out the new feature set on Thursday at operamini.com/beta and be sure to tell your friends
.Since Opera Mini 4 is a complete rewrite of our code, some of the features in Opera Mini 3, such as secure connections and content folding, weren’t brought over yet in the first beta. In the upcoming beta we’ve ported more of these features.
In addition to this beta, we are also planning a beta 3 before the final release. We need to get rid of all bugs before we bring the final version of Opera Mini 4 into the spotlight.
Thanks to all of you who helped with testing of the previous beta. In particular, we’d like to thank those who submitted bug reports and feedback in the Opera Mini Forums (and on your blogs). Thanks for helping us bring Opera Mini out to millions of people.
We’re looking forward to your feedback with beta 2.
- Johan Schön and the rest of the Opera Mini team

Did you mean "for the New Generation"?

For the time being, Mini 3.1 remains the major browser on our Treo 650 (GSM, unlocked) handset. By using Open WebMail, I can read/reply/send many E-Mails, tho' don't have the luxury of cut/paste of the various Palm OS applications, headed by the sluggish, lackluster Blazer.
I have been "playing with" 4beta since its first release. It jams a lot on my Treo and is VASTLY SLOWER in response from the commands.
However, it does eliminate unwanted messages on the server via Open WebMail and I can run Gmail w/o any difficulty. Can't send messages from Open WebMail, however, unlike Mini 3.1.
Most of my other WebMail addresses freeze up, at this time.
Have gotten the spirit of 4beta navigation, so when the final version arrives, I should be ready.
Keep up the good work!

FataL, it's intentional. The 'now' generation, include people who want information now (using Opera Mini).

Mini 4 (the released version) works fine on my Treo 650 (unlocked GSM).
I have "Mobile View" checked, to eliminate the zoom/pointer feature - which slows me down.
Blazer in Palm OS is little used, now.
Congratulations on a well-done mobile browser!
