Opera Mini 4 beta
By johansch. Tuesday, 19. June 2007, 07:49:57

After a year of hard work we are ready to show you the first beta of Opera Mini 4. We started this new generation right after Mini 2, and worked on it in parallel with Mini 3.
The new rendering architecure allows for page previews, instant zoom, proper handheld stylesheet support with pixel-perfect CSS and much more. This is based on the same core engine that will be used by Opera 9.5, and similar to the one used by the Wii browser. We'll have more details for web developers shortly.
We hope you'll like it. Please leave us feedback.

I have some sugestion:
I'm using Opera on PDA which doesn't have number keyboard. I can't open "Quick access context menu". What about long press Menu key? Or add this to also to Main menu. Or something else.
Great would be possibility to load only one selected images (also anchored images).
Great woudl be the same functionality for Pocket PC version of Opera.

-> First what i didn't like is that there is no option to DESKTOP DOWNLOAD so i had to download it via phone. This is too bad because downloading software costs high via WAP.
-> Kindly incude the ( .jar ) file for Sony ericsson K700i for final release. THIS IS MY REQUEST. ( .jad ) file doesn't run on K700i.
-> In previous blog i asked the question that would there will be a arrow cursor ..... and the answer is yes. It's like a browsing on computer. with HAND and ARROW cursor. Grphics are not so smooth as Opera mini 3 but because it's beta so it's ok.
-> Opening BBC page WITHOUT images costes 11KB. I will compare it woth Opera Mini 3 version. I guess 3.0 version doesn't cost much KB. But i will see.
-> It is mainly built for screens that are big in size. Thnaks that it didn't replaced Opera Mini 3.0 so still there is a chance to move back. It is delightful to see whole website at the tiny screen of your mobile however there is an option to click AUTO ZOOM in settings to every time you open the page, the page will be displayed in extended manner. But personally i have unchecked this option because it gives me a great feeling.
-> still can't send scrap in Orkut through it.
-> Overall I am quite happy with the way it is working and hope that it will be much exiting in it's final release. I am habitual with 3.0 version but i believe i will be using it more than 3.0 soon. I will explore it more.
I will try and write more. Thanks Opera Team.

Kudos for allowing folks to run it alongside the existing Opera Mini.
I am noticing a couple of issues with password-protected and secure web sites. I'm having problems getting authentication to "stick" with Google's personalized web sites (iGoogle, Gmail). It seems to only work with one or two pages then I have to re-login again. Plus, my iNotes-based work email can't authenticate at all with the newest OM4 Beta.
All in all, I give it three and a half out of five stars. Once all the bugs are ironed out, this will be one sweet mobile browser.

java.io.IOException: error 227 during TCP write
Has anyone else experienced this error?
UPDATE: A Mini team member has confirmed that there is a problem in the beta version with font uploading on the d900i. It may be that other Samsung models are affected too. So if you experience this error message, no need to pull your hair out - they are working to fix it.

I don't know if I can post wishes here but I'll do.
Could a new version of Opera Mini be able to store WebPages on phone's memory?
It would save users a lot of money !!
My Sony Ericsson has NetFront and it can store webpages. But I like to use only Opera but is expensive to reload pages everytime I want to see them.
Thanks. And sorry if is a wrong place for this.

Thanks, but it doesn't matter, I just want to be able to save the webpages on my phone's memory...even in "opera" format. Just to see them again without reloading.
Actually Opera mini can save the bookmark but not the webpage.
