More SVG support, and more fun with Outlook or Friendster

We have upgraded the servers today. Here are the highlights from the changelog:

  • Added more country-specific default feeds. Will only show up on new installations.
  • Added onClick events to the SVG support.
  • Fixed compatibility with Outlook Web Access.
  • JAD files can now only be opened, not saved.
  • Improved support for radio buttons with onFocus attributes. This fixed problems with logging in to at least one site.
  • Added a workaround to get to the desktop version of Friendster.

Nice. But I'm wondering if we will ever see a fixed & antialiased "small" font on Motorola phones (RAZR V3x and RAZR V8).
Notice that fonts were nice before Mini 4.0 build 10031 and later versions.

Thanks so much for the Friendster desktop version workaround! I truely truely appreciate it so much! ;D

Dmitry<B-7>TkachenkoBond0079 Tuesday, June 3, 2008 5:53:22 AM

I can't download JAD files, but JAR files too! WTF???

H82typ Tuesday, June 3, 2008 8:42:58 AM

@ BAMAToNE: You've been hanging out with Tamil Waaayyy too much, Charlie! lol

@ Valgrind: I've been experiencing ' connection failed, click here to start the test' since yesterday. About 50% of the time. If I backbutton, I cut that to 30%. The other error I get is ...invalid response from an upstream server.
This is still happening on June 3rd. sad

miyuru Tuesday, June 3, 2008 9:49:57 AM

H82typ, the connection error. Very very true! It's the same on my N95. I've been blaming it on my network so far. Strange though, the phone showed no signals sometimes while TRYING TO USE OPERA MINI. But most probably browsing was fine with default browser, not any signal problems.

User Tron Tuesday, June 3, 2008 8:42:17 PM

OM 4.1 doesn't work for me anymore. OM 3 is working though. Please fix this soon smile And the small font AA for Motorola too!

H82typ Wednesday, June 4, 2008 12:05:05 PM

bigeyes What a can of worms I opened, eh?

What happened to the Opera mini 4.1 for these couple of days?? Facebook used to work flawlessly but now it works like sh!t.. The website used to work like a dream.. Now it's a nightmare!! All the applications there have glitches all the time.. I can't even add a friend!! WTF is going on???

sabin iankosyntetiko Friday, June 6, 2008 3:37:21 PM

This upgrade is more like a downgrade to me,i'm talking about the removal of the .jad and .jar saving feature...@OM TEAM,are you guys drinking at the work place(joking)?i dont see the reason why the .jad(and also the .jar)files saving has been removed but i hope you can explain to us...i'm disapointed cry want that feature back!!! cry

Sir Nameless Undead XIIIU-D13 Friday, June 6, 2008 9:33:14 PM

Yea, I completely agree with the Synthetiko guy - why the heck should we download jad's and jar's with that goddamn ugly and inconvenient built-in sh*t of a browser?! I want (and I guess I'm not the only one) to have the freedom of choice what to do with the files I download, without any file type limits!

JBjbpseudo Saturday, June 7, 2008 10:35:58 AM

@U-D13. Ofcourse you are not the only one.
And it gets worse when the site from where you download jar files require login. My phone's GREAT rolleyes wap browser cant even open those login pages completely.
Oh come on irked

sabin iankosyntetiko Saturday, June 7, 2008 1:48:41 PM

Since we are so many against this new upgrade om team should think about restoring the .jar and .jad files saving...we should start a topic about this on the om forums...what you think about that?

JBjbpseudo Saturday, June 7, 2008 3:48:42 PM

We have already complained the issue in this thread about server upgrade.
http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=234734
You think that wont do the job?

Sheik UsmanUsman007 Saturday, June 7, 2008 7:09:59 PM

Hi its cool! if u want to call me use this 919944281411.......B-)

sabin iankosyntetiko Saturday, June 7, 2008 7:38:01 PM

@jbpseudo,I know about that topic..but looks like om admins are ignoring us..i mean we dont get any answers that could make us understand why the heck was the ''.jad/.jar saving'' removed...i asked mannes if they will restore this feature...he's answer was: ''dont think so,no''...i'm tired of this f*ckin' subject, hope they will change their mind about this...after all OM team's goal is to offer us a better browsing experience with this upgrades, not to remove one of the best features, right?

JBjbpseudo Saturday, June 7, 2008 7:55:02 PM

Yup. Thats right. I still believe they would consider this valid request. But you know server upgrade isnt something done overnight so they night include this feature in the next big server upgrade. I am also thinking about setting up a poll if necessary.

EDIT: And here is the poll,

Yeah I agree the facility to download jad and jar files should be restored or atleast looked into as long as it does not affect the overall performance of the browser.

Yeni Setiawansandalian Thursday, June 12, 2008 9:37:05 AM

I know it's out of topic, but I wonder what software did you guys use to capture the screen of cellphone to make video etc?

Rafael Luikrafaelluik Monday, June 16, 2008 6:40:31 PM

Why only open .jad?
We like to have a backup of what we download...

At all, very nice work with Opera Mini, it is a dream!

It was nice integrating pointing device with Opera Mini 4.0 bete. Few improvements have been done so far untill the release of this final version. But still I am undergoing sone problems using it with my Nokia 9300 communicator. First of all, I think every single user of opera finds the lack of a shockwave or flash player in Opera mini. The Opera Developement team should work on it. At least integration of a JRE is expected. Secondly, I find it very annoying while downloading something using Opera Mini 4.1. It doesnt stop autometically after the completion of download. And the software freezes after the completion of the download. I have to exit the software... Sometimes it just stops downloading keeping few bits remained and the result is corrupted files. As Opera fans we dont expect this kinds of bugs in it. I hope opera tean will will work on it and release its users from the above issues as soon as possible. thanx..

Hey Opera Mini Team when you will add automatic link redirecting features with timer which is required for sites like rapidshare.com 4shared.com it will be greatfull for me when you create this features.

I have some suggestions.
The opera mini 4.1 is better than other versions. But there are some errors that is irritating me.
I cant download large size files such as songs and videos. But i can download pictures, documents, themes, ringtones. But it doesnt show the downloading rate or how much downloaded. Please upgrade opera mini so that it can download large size files and can show downloading rates or percent. I appricate that it is the only browser that can give so much functions and features. So it is used by all the mobile browsing people.

Pank69 Wednesday, June 25, 2008 10:25:44 AM

I cant download large size file.Afterall this version is good.

QasimQasibr Monday, July 21, 2008 3:22:52 AM

I wonder what neat stuff we're going to see in the next release of opera mini(4.5 or 5?). Opera already supports rss feeds, and I for one, think that it would be great to extend that to support podcatching (streaming/downloading podcasts from feeds). Rightnow, I've got several podcasts added to opera mini's feed manager, but I have to download each and every podcast individually using the download manager, which isn't a very good way to go about doing this. I can't do any web browsing or anything else while a podcast mp3 downloads. And I have to quit Opera Mini and open my device's media player to play the downloaded file. Wouldn't it be great to have it stream, so it doesn't use up local memory, and so people could listen to it while using opera mini for regular stuff.

Opera mini would need to have some sort of basic music player built in to play the podcasts, but that shouldn't be impossible. It wouldn't even have to provide built in support for media codecs, it could just use the codecs provided in the device. Other than that, since some devices don't have alot of memory, the player could stream audio over the network rather than store locally, or provide an option to do both. Alot of people would also love to use the media player to listen to any songs they've got on their devices, or maybe stream songs from some internet radio feeds, making opera mini's browsing experience much more pleasant and fun.

jaiprasad54 Wednesday, August 6, 2008 8:07:35 AM

Why operamini requires so much time. I think it developing something special right?

QasimQasibr Wednesday, August 13, 2008 3:34:37 AM

I can't get Opera Mini to work. Is it just me? It doesn't connect to any website. Running the connection test doesn't make it work, and Mini directs me to visit the opera mini help url from my computer, but the url doesn't provide any helpful information

I'm on a Nokia N80, and Opera Mobile and the S60 webkit browser both work with the same wifi access points. Is there anyplace I'm supposed to report this and get support?
