Server Upgrade to 4.12.866

The global Mini cluster was upgraded by the server team yesterday afternoon. This release's highlights include:

  • improved site compatibility
  • better support of image maps
  • login and JavaScript dialogs now have enhanced UTF-8 support
  • partial support for designMode/ contentEditable was implemented
  • <blink> and <marquee> are now always shown
  • better handling of pages with very weak contrast
  • and many bug fixes

All Opera Mini users automatically benefit from the upgrade (no manual change is needed, though it is possible to check the server version using the "debug:" URL).

Have a lot of fun! :hat:

I wonder how the Opera Mini 5's coming along.

I ran into an interesting usage scenario today. I'd clicked through various articles to get to this page that I found rather interesting. I wanted to save the page for later reading, but I also wanted to maintain it's history sequence, so I could go back and read the articles that linked to it.

It would be neat if OM5 provided some way of doing that.

paddy2k 9. September 2009, 21:49

Here's an idea for the next version of Opera Mini, it should include a GeoLocation API to get either the phones GPS co-ordinates or the local cell id

nates45 10. September 2009, 16:42

thanks for the upgrade...thats really on improvement...keep it guys

Masbian 10. September 2009, 20:32

Has anyone actually ever looked into this bug? It's a very long-standing issue, and I'm not really sure why it still remains when regular expressions constitute such an important piece of Javascript, and non-ASCII strings are very commonly found all over the web...

An example case where this breaks a web application completely is µTorrent MiniUI ( http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=47167 ). Various users have found µTorrent MiniUI to fail because of the broken regular expressions engine. And that sucks because oftentimes, Opera Mini is the only (otherwise) usable browser on whatever device it is that they use.

eogilo 12. September 2009, 00:51

Opera cheat

Nicky50 12. September 2009, 01:50

What exactly do u mean? @ogilo

guy4info 12. September 2009, 19:55

Damn! The upgrade is worth it...

Stan81 12. September 2009, 20:38

Operamini in nigeria is currently offline for those of us using mtn.... I need a solution

Furie 12. September 2009, 21:01

If it's only offline for one network then it's the network doing it, not Mini. Keep a pay and go SIM from another network and top it up as needed.

53north 12. September 2009, 21:58

I posted a bug report a while ago. A BLOG search won't show any more than the first page (10) results. It used to be a problem on the blog community roll page but was fixed - can they fix it in blogs? I think it has to do with the old restriction of 10 results google placed on wap browsers. It's a shame as I added a search blog by colour matrix in my welcome post that is stifled by it.

piroxicam 13. September 2009, 14:11

In Hi5 we can not view pictures. All we get is the description and a blank square in place where the picture should be. Please fix it.

Furie 13. September 2009, 15:37

They show up for me.

Tluangtea 13. September 2009, 19:13

Operamini is the best!

Tluangtea 13. September 2009, 19:15

It would be really nice if we could use omegle.com . Can it be fixed?

rewar 13. September 2009, 19:20

Yeah it is d best

Stan81 14. September 2009, 01:17

Hilariousbabe 14. September 2009, 05:53

Opera u're too good

Furie 14. September 2009, 11:03

I tried that Omegle and that didn't work. After seeing what the site does I'm kinda glad about that. :insane:.

Some networks set a 300KB limit on data usage, per click if you catch my meaning. Give yours a call and find out if they do that. You may be able to convince them to change it, if there's been enough complaints anyway.

Stan81 14. September 2009, 11:47

Ok thanks:)

53north 14. September 2009, 16:40

They ought to be glad opera mini is around to compress sites and make browsing popular. I found opera mini 3.1 to be better for big image sites, as it pages things up to downloadable chunks.
Still no luck with using a marquee on my blog today..

Sollaradiation 14. September 2009, 23:35

I'm wondering how opera mini 4.2 cant open the wap.txtmate.com while the late 3.xxx can. Any solution opeRa team? Can we have the tab browsing and copy text option from an opened site back please? Thanks.

Furie 15. September 2009, 00:51

You never had those options to begin with so I doubt you'll get them "back".

Tluangtea 15. September 2009, 13:40

@Sollaradiation: that would be great if tab browsing was possible...and the copy text option would sure be very helpful.

Furie 15. September 2009, 13:44

eltino2 15. September 2009, 14:42

Opera mini,i love you!you are the best!!:D

Solo70us 15. September 2009, 19:20

For those of you using opera mini in nigeria(mtn),don't worry it just a matter of time b'cos mtn has just finished upgrading their network

Fredmos 19. September 2009, 08:30

I've been using opera since version 1 but Opera mini 4.2 multi tap works perfectly on my nokia 5300 and am yet to try opera 5 beta
