Where did Opera Mobile v9.0 go?

, ,

Daniel Goldman over at Opera Watch just answered a question many of you have asked: "Where did Opera Mobile v9.0 go?"

Well, here's the answer:
"The Opera Mobile browser will include the same rendering engine, Presto, as the Opera 9.5 desktop browser. In addition, the Opera SDK (Software Development Kit) that is used for embedded devices also uses the latest Presto rendering engine."

We basically skipped v9.0 and went right for v9.5. This will make it easier for web developers to figure out what standards support we offer across our browser products.

That person who made that decission should be paid to work part time over at Microsoft to help them out on versioning.

I think 9.5 has Kestrel, not Presto...Presto is older core...

Øyvind Østlund 8. February 2008, 15:01

Kestrel is not the name of the engine. It is the working name of the 9.5 builds.

Yes, 9.5 is called Kestrel, while Kestrel uses the Presto engine which will also be used in Opera Mobile 9.5.

Is it pre-installed in the new upcoming SonyEricsson XPERIA X1 ?

Frode Hauge 11. February 2008, 11:00

hofodude: Opera Mobile is not pre-installed on the Xperia X1. Sony Ericsson announced 7 new phones for the Mobile World conference, and Opera Mobile is installed on the G700 and G900 mobile phones (both UIQ phones).

You will be able to install Opera Mobile on a Xperia X1 after you have bought it

The press release mentions a public beta to be announced seperately. Will it be announced on this page?

So is 9.5 actually going to be released to the public in the next couple of weeks or are we just going to be teased for the next few months as we have been?

It wouldn't surprise me if it's not released (the beta version) till the end of the year. As Microsoft release the next version of WM6.5 (or whatever it will be) instead of WM7!!

What is with the snail pace development of Windows products!! :furious:

Meanwhile on the darkside of the force. Apple release the next slick version of whatever!
